If you wan't to be able to buy scrolls you better never get rid of collected items for something as mundane as gold. I never sell anything unless I have five or more unless I have a dire need for money. Scrolls sometimes takes three each of several different items to make. and you need surplus items to trade with other advies.

IF there are going to be an increased taxation on adventurers it shouldn't be on wealth. Adventurers are highly mobile and apart from bounties leaves little record of their income as most of it is stolen from monsters who are unlikely to register a complaint with the local lord. Especially as they are dead. Should taxes be increased it should be on monetary transactions such as the sale of items and buying equipment as several here has already been pointing out.

Tax dodging options should be available with a small chance of being found out by the local lord. That chance should decrease with your adventuring skill increasing.

If you want to find scrolls, you better never bother yourself with carrying anything as mundane as items. Selling them gives you the gold necessary to buy equipment and defeat the champion that holds these items. What glory is there in buying them from other people?

Not that your method is wrong, mind you, but it's not the only one.
After all it's a roleplaying game.

Enjoy sleeping your tent. I'll be getting a bath and massage, and back on the hunt while you're still trying to get to sleep.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

fodder

depends on luck

if solo
once you hit the limit in terms of fatigue, you won't have the hours to continue hunt after bath and all. and good chances are the links would expire.. for whatever reasons when you have the hours to re-use link.

if you are with a group. they might have finished the hunt up.

then again, either case allows you to move on to the next hunt.. with the saved hours same region or otherwise.

Ooooh...  is there a chance of getting scrolls from champions? I have never had that happen to any of mine adventurers.

I have to say I've never found scrolls exactly... I always assumed they were like uniques, just rarer. Maybe I'm wrong about this then. But I don't bother to find uniques any other way.
