i personally never went along with the mobile phone hype and still have a very basic one, which can... call and stuff, you know, what its for in the first place 
But don't these phones have something like dictation software?
On the pc you have Dragon naturally speaking, which works pretty well once you learned your self and the software to get along with each other.
If its also for mobile phones, i'd suggest using that.
Like using a real scribe
I've only used my phone to sign in when abroad. I don't really read messages, but simply avoid the inactivity counter
Though I usually can't resist to at least read some letters. Typing is inconvenient, though.
