augmenting the usefulness of shared scout report

afaik, you share the scout the report and all you can see is it listed out in the scribe notes page and you get to see the total number of shared report in the standing orders section.

useful, but i think most people don't take any notice of it, and rely on the old fashion "report with pasted scout links" message

it would probably be better, if you get to see "X shared reports, Y new" (new as in new to the turn) or have something similar to to the new message number in the left panel... have a number next to "information" to denote the number of new scout reports from this turn... clearing the number once you've been to the scribe note page.

I think it's terrible that every time I've seen some noble try and explain to their marshal that they're sharing reports, even if they're not posting them, they've been chewed out. Those players who do know/realise they can access shared army reports don't seem to want to know and the rest have no idea.

I think this is a good idea, but the cynic in me can't help but wonder how much more boring some realms will become when instead of turn reports and intermittent scout reports in the message feed, they're left with merely turn reports alone to look at for fun >.<

problem with the current thing is that it says x shared reports, all the way from days ago. so you wouldn't know if any of them is new at a glance. how many people keep looking up the share reports page to see if there's a new one in since turn change/last login?

typically i share all reports and only paste ones with something of interest in them. or at least that's the theory...  mistakes normally mean shared ones of interest are not flagged up by a report.

If the reports were shared with the realm, instead of the army, that would greatly increase use of the feature, IMHO. Perhaps have the following of the scout report look like this:

Share with army
Share with duchy
Share with realm
Share with all allies in current region
Share with all realm-mates in current region

(perhaps with checkboxes and a "send messenger" link)

I was going to suggest exactly that. It would be extremely useful.

Another thread somewhere suggested the use of expanding and collapsing buttons for battle reports (so you could expand the report to see a bit more detail, but it wouldn't start off by taking up the whole page).

If you were to implement such a feature, you could have that also for those standing orders.  Have it saying "8 shared scout reports (3 new)" as suggested above, but then put a little "+" next to that, which you could click to expand and see those that were new this turn.  That would make it quicker and easier to use.

Adding to that the suggestion above to share also with realm etc, and it would be a more useful system.  As it is, anyone making use of the system, rather than spamming their message output with scout reports, tends to find no-one notices them do it.  I've been known to provide scout reports every day for a week, and then been told off by my marshal who honestly thought I'd not been providing any ;)

I provide scout reports every turn, but my VM (who I told how to) still re-scouts and posts a message. I just find it funny...though maybe the army doesnt like the fact their Marshal appears, because they cba to check scribe notes, to actually be doing nothing... :D

The problem with shares scout reports is that you have to go check to see what is there. Whereas if people post them to the army/realm, then you can see right in front of you that the reports are there. Personally, I'm in favor of the act of sharing a scout report also generating a message to the army that scout reports of regions X, Y, and Z have been made available.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

just noticed another problem.
the shared reports don't automatically appear in dynamic map.

They do for me of regions already owned by PeL, not of the rogue ones though.

question is, the ones that show... did you scout them? or did someone else scout and share them and did you view them?

i have 2 chars. 1 scouted (outside of borders, not rogue) and shared. the other doesn't see it in dynamic map, until he's clicked the links..

Yes to both questions.

Might just be you need to click the links first then?

well, if you view any reports, shared or otherwise, they show up on your dynamic map.

what i was thinking is that if someone share it, they appear automatically in your dynamic map without you having to click each link to view it before.
