With the new tax system, lords cannot gather special taxes - this feature should come back!.
Instead of just having peasants pay taxes, why don't we divide the tax paying group into two? peasants and merchants and let the lord set different tax rates for both? For peasants in the rural regions, a high tax rate can generate more food while merchants produce more gold?
Also, how about adding different ways of gathering tax? Like special war taxes or forced tax collection to squeeze more gold from peasants.
