Reworking Family Gold

Investments are not intended to make money for the character or the family. It doesn't work that way. They may make money for the realm. But most often, they are used to either quickly repair production in a region, or to funnel gold to a realm. (i..e you character on AT sends money to the family, and your character on Dwilight does an investment, thus "moving" gold from AT to Dwilight.)

Perhaps it would be helpful to list all the things family gold are used for? I don't know them all, but I'll start the list and edit it as people add more.

Family support--family sends your (broke or nearly so) character gold.
Investment--boost production of the region you are currently in.
Pledge bail--family pays double the gold equivalent to get you out of prison.
Buy favors--lets you use smith/entertainment in a foreign region.
Fund rebels--when your family home is in a foreign realm, you can cause control to drop.
Add to bounty--entice an infiltrator to stab a hated enemy.

screw a foreign realm - home in enemy realm? cause trouble.

Asking family support is another one. And I think you can choose to have more gold / bigger unit when you start a new character.

When you're done with this, you may want to transcribe it onto the wiki. I know this list has been made before on the forums.

You can also add money to a bounty directly from your family gold.

they "regain" them when sub 2k i think - up to the threshold of 2k.

In my experience the threshold is lower than that. It has been a long time, but I do not recall ever randomly regaining gold after I had more than 1.2k or 1.3k gold. 2k would be too high because you can start doing family investments at that point.

could well be then. maybe 1k? been a while since i had low gold XD

I never saw a use to the family gold. If you make an investiment, 99% of chance to receive less then you spent. Perhaps a change in the family conception could be good. Giving the ability to move the house not to every hero of the family, but only to one (the lead, patriarch/matriarch), and allowing you to buy things with the gamily gold instead of secondary spend or support (a time ago someone suggested the creation of heirlooms, some items a family turned as their and passed through the characters. this is a good way to think)

Was the code changed recently? I seem to be getting much better yields (before considering efficiency) then I used to.

I like the option to finance rebels, but you must admit it's a little stupid that you can be caught funelling gold to rebels, have your character auto-banned, and your family is still untouchable.

well.... unless you want people going around torching family homes.....

that would be an issue regarding a visible family home. totally ignoble to go torching it... probably.. but well.. grudges and all.

I love that my family home is in Dragon's Roost!

Next time I'm in Zuma land, we'll see about moving it to Nightmarch....

No, I love thinking that Old Uncle Vellos is sitting up in Dragon's Roost on the family estate, lording it over some Zuma tribespeople.
