My trader on EC has wandered all the way from Semall through Perdan to Sirion city and back down to Negev. I have yet to be able to broker a single trade. Almost every trade deal is locked to realm/allies. Those that are not are the oddball "Buy 1000 bushels for 10" or Sell "350 bushels for 35" style offers. Even the good "Buy for 30" orders are locked to realm/allies.

The new trade system is still pretty new, though, so maybe it will mature a bit.

Is this real? I see absolutely no reason that I would ever place a buy order to be "realm only."

My duke only places buy orders which are available to everyone. He wants food, doesn't matter who gives it to him. (P.S. He will offer to buy at 30 but that usually involves a large buy at once, ie. at least 500 bushels)

No, I'm lying.

Of course it's real...  >:(

The only reason I could see placing buy orders locked to the realm is to give preferential pricing to your own lords. It is not unreasonable.

I know you're not lying. It was just disbelief. I mean if you want food, you want food. My people are starving, anyone who wants to sell food can. That's the whole point I would think. (This is on Atamara though)

I could understand a two-tier pricing system--a lord offers to buy in-realm for 30 gold, or from outsiders for 10.

I also see it being over-used. Apparently, people are incredibly paranoid about food trades. I'm not really sure how to change it. I stll hope that once food consumption/production gets in line, things will change. But we need to do a few more things to get there.

Most realms don't run deficits. Why trade with outsiders if it only means more gold for them, and more rotten food for you?

I'm actually surprised markets are as open as they are on Dwilight, but that's probably because some realms have massive surpluses while others have massive deficits, inciting trade.

The reason I as Margrave of a mediocre city use realm-only trading is that while I do want food, I don't want my gold to go outside my realm. Gold that stays inside the realm will be used for the realm, gold that leaves the realm is truly lost.
Now I'm Margrave in a realm that produces enough food and is fighting for it's life against the invaders so to lose gold is the last thing I want. I can imagine things being a little more loose in other realms/continents.

Anyway, if you want to make this less attractive or less commonly used, how about giving traders the option to broker deals between foreign and local offers even if they're restricted. With a chance of getting captured of course, just like with the old black market option.

You mean, replace the black market with brokering restricted deals?  That wouldn't be a bad idea. :)
The above is accurate 25% of the time, truthful 50% of the time, and facetious 100% of the time.

I made a thread over on the development board with a collection of ideas for black market trading. The's where Lorgan stole the idea from. ;)

Lol. Didn't see that till now. :P But yeah, looks like it's already been said there along with some other good ideas to replace the black market. :)

Damn Indirik... the man's just too fast... ;)
