Under the new system, it's possible to appoint Dukes that are not lords of a city, or lords of any region at all. Is that the situation that is being encouraged by the game/Devs, or just given to us as an option?

Indirik

It is an option. Do what you want with it.

My ruler appointed himself duke, so the (new) margrave of a certain city is throwing a fit because he's not the Duke. It might be enough for me to lose the next election. Keep that in mind.

that's assuming you still have a realm by next election.

There will be a realm; duchy, maybe not. I'm not giving up yet.

We do this in Cathay (mostly) and I like it quite a lot. There was a bit of resistance from the people who were expecting to get duchies and cities but the grumbling subsided. Makes for a bigger 'tent' and more prizes you can give out. We have at least one newer character as a margrave who would never have been made a Duke under the old system.

+1, it will take them 2 weeks with us doing nothing against them to even get Paisly. Its easy to weaken them without even attacking right now anyways, and then when we have them weakened enough attack. Also I am not discussing IC strategies, as I don't know the strategies since I am just a trader thats a week away from his realm, and will leave again about the day after I arrive.
