Listen to Rumours Feature Not Working?

I'm not sure if this is actually broken or not, so I haven't checked the bugtracker or created my own ticket.

So anyway, my adventurer on the Far East has found a good number of Sages recently (though I hear this has become unusual) but he keeps hearing news of them through the Investigate feature rather than the Listen to rumours feature. In fact, the Listen to rumours has never provided my adventurer with useful information even when there are two sages in the region or my Investigate feature discovers that they were here recently.

Should I just not be wasting hours on the Listen to rumours feature?

Tom

The text displayed on the "listen to rumours" page says:

QuoteYou listen to the rumours and slowly put together some information about
peculiar people that have visited recently. These include adventurers,
traders, priests and - maybe most importantly - infiltrators.

So I'm not quite sure why you think it would tell you about sages.

Perhaps the two features should be combined into one, so that adventurers don't have two perform two actions to gather information?

Foundation

Why not two actions?  Neither requires a lot of time, right?
The above is accurate 25% of the time, truthful 50% of the time, and facetious 100% of the time.

Its not broken. The feature only works if there is a sage or wizard in an adjacent region and they are not traveling. I used the listen to rumors feature to track a sage for over a month RL. Some times however it would take several times to find out where my sage had gone to.

There are two Listen to Rumours features:
QuoteListen to rumours - find out who is in the vicinity. (takes 3 hours)
QuoteListen to rumours - spend an hour listening to rumours of sages and wizards.
One is on actions, the other is on quest.

Actually, there are three.

1. Listen to rumors of sages
2. Listen to rumors about PC's
3. Listen to rumors about monsters/undead

I don't see why my character would listen very hard for rumors about sages, only to run away with his fingers in his ears if someone mentioned an infiltrator nearby, or monsters in their garden. It's not like there's a "sage rumor room" at the inn, and a separate "monster rumor room" at the tavern across the street, and anyone discussing the wrong topic gets kicked out.

Penchant

The monsters/undead one is technically investigating but you would do the same thing, just listen to rumours.

My apologies, I forgot the one in Actions. I am, indeed, talking about the one in Quests as quoted by Penchant.

As I mentioned, using this feature has only led me to bleed hours... Using the Investigate feature (monsters and undead) has told me of sages in the area several times, however. This includes information so detailed as where the sage is moving.

Even with two sages in the region I'm in right now, it doesn't provide me any useful information.

Listening for rumors "quests"for sages and wizards for me has never given me information if they are in the region I am in or if they are still listed in the greyed out text as recently passing through. Once there is no rumor of a sage recently passing through the area one to three hours of listening usually tells me what region the sage moved to.

Your memory is playing tricks with you. The investigate script does not contain a single line of code related to sages.

If it happens again, I'll quote it directly. Though, thinking about it, the investigate link that has alerted me to sages has been from the Travel menu (after arriving).

Until such a time as it does happen, I think we've put the whole thing to rest and I have gone mental.  ;D
