Right now - none. It will get a function later when patrolling sea zones gets implemented. You will need navies for that, and the shipyard builds navies.
Any idea on how they will work?  Will we need a shipyard on all coastal regions?  Or do we just need to have a shipyard in a region bordering each sea zone?  What about regions bordering multiple sea zones?

I haven't figured out the details yet. No you definitely don't need one in all coastal regions, simply because you can only build it in certain region types.

As of today, most of the travel code is implemented, so sea zones might become active in a while. An in-game announcement will be made in a few minutes.

Please note that this really is a feature in testing. I am looking forward to your feedback regarding all numbers - costs and times, travel times, casualties when landing on enemy beaches, etc. etc. etc.

Especially comparisons between land and sea travel are very welcome. The intent is that for very short distances, A to B or A-B-C, land travel should be a bit faster, but beyond that or when the sea travel can go a more direct route, ships will be a bit faster, but not too much.

What is still missing before things can go live?

  • provision use and starvation of troops
  • message to region lord when enemy troops land in your region

When it goes live will the old sea travel routes still be active?

We won't leave anyone in the middle of travel, but the old sea routes will go away very soon after sea travel has gone active.

Can you build shipyards in townslands?

Would it be possible for the Sea Zones to show up on the Mini-Map in the top right of the screen on the Travel Page? It would really be nice to get an idea of where you are going when you click that "Embark" button without having to open up the Info Page in a new tab and navigate to the Dynamic Map just to see.

I think we are also missing sea travel for nobles without units, such as priests/advies. I can't find anything about the new sea travel with my priest character. He is in a city with a harbor.

Correct, has not yet been implemented and is of lower priority. But it will, eventually.

Indirik

If you're going to get rid of sea routes soon after you implement sea zones, the priests on Dwilight would really appreciate being able to travel via the new sea zones. There are quite a few places you just can't get without it.

An easy solution is to delay removing sea routes until after travel for nobles without a unit is implemented.

My apologies for joining in so late and double apologies if these two details have been addressed already.

Will the sea zones exist along the outer edge of Dwilight? Will it eventually be possible to take a ship from Darfix to Echiur?

I notice there's an option for both harbors and shipyards and it says the shipyards create "navies" will there be naval units which can fight in sea zones?

pcw27

Oh, if you still need names, I think the region to the west of Darfix should be named "Boreal's Way"
