Cagil News Agency Dispatch:

With Estonite assistance, Makarian troops breached Talerium defenses at Cantril and rampaged in interior Cagilan regions. However the undisciplined Makarian raiders were quickly encircled and annihilated by Cagilan forces before they could do much damage. Several Makarian nobles were reportedly captured and held for ransom. Had they remained at Nazamroth, the outcome of the subsequent battles might have been different.

It was at this time that Taran, Talerium, and Cagilan forces launched a major counter-offensive from Cantril to Nazamroth. Entrenched knights and soldiers from Eston and Darka were initially successful in driving them off, however the defenders took heavy casualties, and were themselves routed from the field when more reinforcements arrived from Cantril to press the assault. Three nobles from CE and Tara were captured, including the General of the Cagilan Empire. Twelve nobles from Eston and Darka were captured, including the Banker of Eston. Many nobles were wounded to various degrees on both sides.

This implies the Barony ever pays ransom. It also ignores the fact that a good number of them have escaped already. (Third stone from the left, mate.)

Why would we let the Makarians go without a ransom? You see, what happens is, after about a week, their families get really desperate, and send us furs, seashells, yak cheese, nubile servant girls... We generally let them go out of pity at that point... the Vikings, not the girls.

We like having Viking prisoners around. Their ransom might not be worth much (nobody likes yak cheese around here), but we found that Darkan and Estonite nobles pay their ransoms much faster when they have a Viking for a neighbor in the cells. I bet it's the smell.  ;D

We didn't even ask for the girls in the first place. We just said "pay the ransom with horses if you don't have gold" and they sent us servant girls.

I think it has something to do with their strange cavalry. I try not to think about it too much.

Most of the damage that BoM inflicts is sanity damage.  :-\

Horses are a fine meal. Don't know why you waste it for riding into a fight when standing on a man or badger will work so much better.

In the form of a news release:

Word from Coria indicates an upcoming power redistribution as High Magistrate Wind Blue Star and General Merlin Silverfire have both indicated their intent to leave their current positions. Both Wind and Merlin have been in their positions for several election cycles (the position of General is not elected, however). The resulting changes may cause a significant change in Coria's governance although Wind has chosen to run for General.

Candidates include Ambassador Asleon Quintus Ennius for High Magistrate and Kressara Fleisher and Wind Blue Star for General.

Historically, Coria's Generals have gone on to become Consul when it frees up. Duke Merlin's current stint still follows this trend due to his previous times as both General and Consul. Despite this, Coria has occasionally elected a Consul that has not also held the General position.

Somebody should post something about that last huge battle in Nazamroth.

In the key region of Nazamroth, chokepoint of the battle lines between the Cagilan Empire and the Northern Alliance, the two foes met in a titanic clash. The resulting battle is being hailed as the second largest battle ever seen. (Second only to the great Battle of Meldeen, which occurred nearly seven years ago.) 79 nobles of Darka, Eston, and the Barony of Makar lead their forces on the field against the 61 entrenched nobles of the Cagilan Empire and Talerium (and two wayward Taran nobles that probably got lost...). Over 4,000 attacking soldiers (47,326 CS) swarmed over the 3,700 defending soldiers (38,731 CS).

Six nobles were captured, and 32 wounded. In the end, the Empire and their allies retreated from the field, unable to hold back the northerners.
