I don't know if this has been talked before...

There is some way to spy a noble? Look into his last letters, etc...? Aside sending him to jail and torture him for information... this can be effective, but usually a bit extreme.  8)

If not, it could be a good thing! Both, to make 'true' investigations, as to make false accusations with forged proofs.

No.

And no thank you. Check the forums for many previous discussions on this topic.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

There's nothing stopping you from roleplaying sending a servant/infiltrator/adventurer into the tent/room of another noble, stealing some paper and spilling an inkwell. Then, when they report the break-in, you present the forged letters that you found.

(because, obviously, you need to have evidence that you were able to get the letters)

Unless you get him to play along and leak messages to you himself.

To speed up your search, it was basically rejected because it isn't wanted to encourage OOC messaging methods.

mmm... yes... I can understand this, but then... mmm... Let's suppose there is a noble spy in your realm... then he is totally safe, the perfect spy!... better to accept all your moves will be know by the enemy realm, and you can do nothing about it, but be destroyed.  :P

Spies have been caught before. There are plenty of ways to figure them out.

Remember this is not a modern court of law. You do not need to be certain someone is a spy beyond the shadow of a doubt; if your character has a hunch, and your character is the type of guy to make enemies out of people on a hunch, then your characters thinks he's a spy.
After all it's a roleplaying game.

Every good ruler knows how to flush out spies. I've done this back when FEI was a new island and we were sure we had a spy in the realm.

Interesting... I'll look in the wiki, maybe I can found something about it.

I doubt it. Most of the tricks don't work as well if everyone knows them.

A good spy keeps his network of contacts to a minimum with the people who he is working for. Or, on the other hand, pulls a double agent.

If you're going to pull a double agent, be serious about it and pull a triple agent..... :-)

simplest way is to give different information to different groups of people, and see which gets passed on.

The official term for that is a redoubled agent.
