Marshal Settings and Multiple Armies
« Topic Start: December 19, 2012, 08:08:05 AM »
So, a realm has two armies. The General orders the two armies to attack a single enemy army in Region X. How can the two Marshals best organize their armies to support each other? I assume the they would both have their troop leaders use the same line settings and then both select the same formation.

Is this the best strategy?
Has anyone seen benefits from the two Marshals using different formations?
Does the difficulty of reliably coordinating two armies in a single battle discourage realms from using multiple armies?
Has it ever been proposed that the General be able to select line settings that only apply when he and multiple armies are in the same region?
Are formations used often, or do many Marshals turn them off and go with line settings only?

Depends what your situation is really.

It can be handy to have two armies for several reasons.
You could make an elite army of elite TL which you know are very active, if not report it and make less mistakes.
You can depend on them for any risky scouting or looting campaigns.
Whats the best all depends on a situation, who your enemy is and what your goals are and how large your realms military is.
Usually its either just one Main offensive army and one homeland defense force(for rogue hunters and courtiers) and perhaps a small elite army.

Yes, setting up in waves against an enemy with more infantry could create an overkill, reducing there damage considerably.
With lots of infantry your self attacking in waves could thus be beneficial as well.

In a single battle? thats not so dificult :), just make sure they use the right settings and arrive at the same time by coordinating it beforehand. it could be difficult for an unexpired General to coordinate the tasks of two offensive armies over the whole campaign thou, but it also depends allot on the individual Marshals.

Has it ever been proposed that the General be able to select line settings that only apply when he and multiple armies are in the same region?
There is no need for that, part of the game aspect of BM is coordinating that with the marshals, that is part of the General game.

Depends, i have seen them quite allot since they got implemented, they are a safe choice for landings, Sieges(attacking walls) all the army members will be on exactly the same settings, making it less likely of your strategy to fail. Yet they don't cover all options we might want to use.

I think the offensive formations are better than the defensive, so you'll see the attackers using them more often than defenders.
