Oh Where Oh Where Did The Newspapers Go?

EC used to have one of the more active newspaper industries remaining in BattleMaster.

For awhile we had Fontans, Sirion's, Caligus's, and OIs...  Then Sirion's and Fontan's died around the same time, but the New Westmoor was created.

Then after some time the Caligus paper dropped from the scene and OI's became more and more uncommon.  But then Nivemus made theirs.

Now it seems only the New Westmoor is relatively around.

What happened? :o

I enjoyed reading all of them, personally.

The Forum happened, I think. It is an outlet for the sort of things that may have been said in a newspaper previously.

I enjoyed reading them too. I wrote one once, but it's just really hard to keep going. The forum gives instant feedback.

The Facebook page is also a good place for the kind of IC propaganda that was done in the newspapers.
After all it's a roleplaying game.

Afaik, most newspapers on all continents died prior to the forums...

It was fun for a while. But they get old. It's boring reading (and writing) the same old and tired propaganda time after time. And it's annoying constantly reading propaganda targeted against you, when everyone knows it's just wild exaggeration and pure make believe.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

Vessol and I have been planning on reviving ours for a while, but we are both very busy as of late.  :-\

Vessol

What Uzamaki said is right. I've been planning to do something with the White Tree Times for about half a month now that the wars have started.

But between work, taxes(I'm an accounting student doing co-op work), school, other hobbies and of course things IG, I haven't found a few hours to sit down and write stuff for the paper. I'm not even sure what exactly to write as I've missed quite a bit of the early war.

My main concern is writing objectively. It's very hard to write objectively when I am on one side in a conflict. Objectivity was my primary goal from the outset and now I'd be approaching it from a very skewered perspective considering that I am very heavily involved in one side of the conflict.

I take a read through the newspapers on occasion. It's a good way to learn about a realm, event, or a person (writer/interview). I'm more fond of periodicals as they tend to be less fluff and more concise.
Eoric the Dim (Perdan), Enoch the Bright (Asylon), Emeric the Dark (Obsidian Islands)

Orobos, The Insatiable Snake (Sandalak)

Eduardo Almighty

With enough time, Erik can write his own newspaper about Avamar, his harems and his own propaganda about himself as always. I doubt someone want to read it anyway ;)
Now with the Skovgaard Family... and it's gone.
Serpentis again!

The newspapers did start to decline before the forums. I'd say around 2008 or so was the death knell. I personally simply ran out of time to read them, though my characters still like participating in them.  In a lot of ways its the only way to really know what's going on unless you have a lot of contacts.

I really liked the White Tree Times. There seemed to be a level of professionalism in it. I remember Autrey did an interview with them once and it was a lot of fun. Interviews provide players with a unique opportunity for character exposition that you don't have in regular RP interactions.

We should revive the WTT as a transcontinental organization. It sounds like fun, and I would like to be a part of it. The only problem is that I have no idea what I am doing when I try to edit the wiki.

Too bad I no longer have time to play BM anymore... I really liked doing the White Tree Times.  :(

Seems most of it got burned down when Perdan went North  ::)
