Title: See above.

Summary: With new code that allows people to jump right in to an estate, it is very important that their lord sees that someone has joined. It would be nice to have a second, personal message sent to them.

Details: With the nice new code (thank you coders!) things are much smoother and more convenient for the new player. However, it is now very important that one person notices them, specifically their Lord. Everyone gets the notification about the new player, but the person whom they join does not get any special notification. It be be easier to notice if there was a second message about the person joining you. And if it was a personal message.

Benefits: Less chance of overlooking the new player. Quicker interaction.

Possible Downsides/Exploits: None.

But... you already do! And fellow knights do too.

QuoteNoble Joins the Realm   (5 days, 5 hours ago)
message to all nobles of Riombara
Brightshield Spiff has joined your realm. He used to be a noble of Ar Agyr.

New Knight   (5 days, 5 hours ago)
message to the lord and knights of Grehk
Brightshield has taken an estate sized at 20 % in your region of Grehk.
After all it's a roleplaying game.

That one is where they already exist, and join from another realm. I am talking about a new character.

I suppose it is already quite noticeable. I believe the title is a new one? This is what one gets:

"New Knight of Twainville   (7 hours, 23 minutes ago)
message to all nobles of Barca
A new knight has emerged from among the ranks of the Barca nobles. Jennifer Mannerheim has taken up the vacant Newborough estate in the region of Twainville and started his career today.
You can check the background of this family or send a welcome message.

Oh, right. Sorry.

The entire realm already gets a notification that a new player has joined the realm. If you're already ignoring that, then what's the possibility that you're not going to ignore a second message about the same new player joining the game?

The solution isn't to start spamming people with more messages for them to ignore. It's for players to actually react to the messages they already receive. Who cares if the new player isn't in your region? Send him a letter anyway.
If at first you don't succeed, don't take up skydiving.

well, a lord needs to put a knight in an army... so would be nice if he is reminded of it if the knight aint vocal.

A Lord can put a knight in an army, he doesn't technically have to. But this is beside the point, really. A Lord should know who his knights are in general, the only question is whether the current message is sufficient.

I would tend to say it is, although from a design point of view I understand the appeal of symmetry: why is the message different for new characters compared to pre-existing characters? It could go that way:

"New Knight of Twainville   (7 hours, 23 minutes ago)
message to all nobles of Barca
A new knight has emerged from among the ranks of the Barca nobles today in Barca. Jennifer Mannerheim has taken up the vacant Newborough estate in the region of Twainville [and started his career today|, he used to be a noble of %PreviousRealm].

PS: There is a gender error in the above message.

You'd think so, but no, there actually isn't.

Jennifer is male.

Well maybe he was born a male, but if he wants us to call him Jennifer, I think we should respect that.
