Tiny Peasant mob prevented major battle

This was a really annoying incident and I think maybe some modifications should be made to prevent this.

Astrum's army entered a region to have a battle with Niselurs. When we entered a peasant mob appeared, it had 36 peasants.

Now what should happen in this circumstance is the two huge armies should finish their fight and the little peasant band should either have some common sense and stay out of it or get caught between both sides and slaughtered.

What happened instead is Astrum's army and Niselur's army put aside their differences and united to stop this tiny band of less then 50 untrained peasants.

Kinda ridiculous. I really think in this circumstance the mob should just stay out of the battle or join one side or the other.

Pretty much a known bug. Unfortunately, solving it isn't trivial.

I do plan to look into this sort of thing later on, though.

Couldn't you make peasant mobs be set to evasive when there are 2 or more nonallied realms in the region?

Indirik

Not a valid solution. "Non-allied" does not mean "want to fight". It also opens up some exploits.

Note that this only happens with rogue peasant mobs in rogue regions. The peasants are the region owners, which makes them automatically the defenders. And since everyone is at war with rogue, who is the defender, they all join together to bash on the defender.

As Tim says, solving this is a non-trivial problem.

Maybe it was Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

...But in all seriousness, couldn't you add a check that disbands the mob if there is the presence of nobles at war with each other? Or make the owners of rogue regions not belong to $rogue, but to $nullRealm or something?

I'm sure any of these solutions would require a lot of work on their part. Otherwise they would have done it already.

Hey, if we can't set aside our differences to make sure peasants know their place so we deserve to be nobles?

That is right. To fight other nobles is Entertainment. To fight rebellious peasants is a duty that unites us all.

Wait....
Why aren't those tiny peasant mobs affected by the "overwhelming force" factor?

Probably cause peasant mobs don't surrender and get imprisoned. Or more correctly because they are counted as rogue just like monsters and undead and so they are a edge case.

OMFG it happened again. Can we please just turn these little bastards off in rogue regions? Honestly who's going to miss them?

Prison is too good for them. They only deserve to be slaughtered like the cattle they are!

Defenders never auto-surrender. Only attackers can be overwhelmed like that.

I wonder if they should? Those really lopsided battles, only purpose for fight is to wear down attackers equipment... which would happen anyway if the armies clash.

IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! THIS WAS AN EVEN BIGGER BATTLE!!!

This makes it way to easy for armies to outmaneuver each other. Can't you just turn the probability down until there's time to fix this?
