Coat of Arms on BM Player Page

It would be fun if we had an option to upload a coat of arms to under the useredit.php page and if the uploaded image would be visible on the UserDetails.php page. A lot of players put effort into creating really great family shields and it would be great if it was visible in the game in addition to the wiki.

I am guessing this has been suggested before and there might be a very good reason to not have such functionality but though it was worth mentioning anyways.

Szquirrel actually designed a heraldry editor that we were going to use to allow players to create their own heraldry and display it. It would also not allow any duplicates, so *you* were the *only* one that had that particular family crest. Unfortunately, something went wrong when it was pushed live. It overloaded the servers, and stopped working quickly. Some difference between the dev server and live server. It never got fixed. I believe that Tom adapted it to his new Might & Fealty game, though.

I took the basic idea, but essentially re-wrote almost all of it. But yes, Might & Fealty as this cute thing:

Any chance it could be backported to BM? 'Cause having heraldry would still be really good for the game :)

Is it possible or would you consider making it possible to expand the database of designs? People might want to carry over custom banners they've had made.

What exactly do you mean by that?

Theoretically it can be, but I'm not sure I want. BM has its own set of banners and some of them could not be reproduced with this designer.

Would it require more effort to rework this to allow them than it would to build a new BM heraldry engine from scratch?

For example, the image you posted has a horse - I imagine you currently have a list of available choices, such as a triangle or a dragon, the usual stuff. I was wondering if you'd let users upload their own (didn't see a button for it) or allow a design to be added through an approval process.

Since the tool is being used to create your own heraldry (and make it unique), I was thinking that people who already have a heraldry they like outside the tool may want to import its features in. Of course, if the goal is uniqueness and/or SMA, they'd need approval.

I'm also thinking that most background options already exist, so the only real custom part would be the symbol.

The charges would have to be in a specific format to allow the heraldry editor to manipulate it. (Size, color, etc.) I think that it uses SVG, which is a vector format. Not sure how viable it would be to allow people to upload their own. The idea is to allow people to make their heraldry so that they are the only one that has it. If you allow custom uploads, you have to have some kind of screening process to ensure that it's not substantially the same as an existing one.

Ah, right, I forgot about the vector aspect of it. Didn't think there would be custom sizes (maybe just a large, medium, small setup). The unique aspect I thought could have a review like banners do in BM, though I don't know that exact process and I realize the volume would be much greater in M&F.

BM charges are made by painting them. This allows total freedom. The Might & Fealty heraldry designer is more specific, and many of the more unusual designs on BM would be impossible to create in it.
