A Problem with my Character Limits

When the limits changed to what I assume to be the new ones, I created an adventurer.  Now that the limits have been rolled back I find that I now have one more active character than allow, but I can't pause the adventurer.  Is there a way that a game master or someone else can either pause the character for me or give me an exemption?  The only characters I can pause at this point are well established.
