Is it the same across all continents? It feels like the maximum distance you can travel without suffering any morale penalty is about 500 miles. Any farther, you start to lose morale rapidly.

There seems to be a big drop of morale in between 500 miles and 700 miles. Without mercenary you can lose 17~19 a turn. You lose slightly less with mercenary (13~14).

I think the limit should be around 1000~1500 miles with mercenary settings possibly increasing the limit by 400~500

Hmmm, interesting finding, Zakky.

I have some data to contribute but the distance number may differ.

1) On EC.
Nivemus army set to Mercenary setting and travel from Nivemus lands to help Perleone in their war previously. We did notice drop in our men morale, quite severely to the point where Nivemus army rested, repair, refit at Ibladesh city(Perleone land) for sometime before we participated in war. I forgot the number of morale drop.

That experience is quite far distance if we consider Perleone and Nivemus lands distance apart.

A much more recent experience is Nivemus army travel from Nivemus lands to Eponllyn lands(Duchy of Perdan before it was taken over by Perdan currently), there is no significant drop in morale on that one.

2) On Colonies
Oritolon army travelled from Oritolon land to make war with Outer Tilog previously. Considering Oritolon and Outer Tilog lands, there is some distance where we have to passby Minas Thalion lands. There is some morale drop but not so noticeable. I think that was pretty good, for a slow island with 1 turn a day change.

Unit size also seems to affect it as well. My 215 men are constantly losing 13 morale but other smaller units are not losing as much. They are losing about 4 or none.

Even mercenary settings are not intended to allow trouble-free operation at the other end of the continent.

But they should be doing more than they are.

Cohesion used to effect a bit atleast the old days, not sure how these days... prolly leadership as well?
