Dwilight / Re: Dwilight Anthropology Project

D'Hara is, as far as I am concerned, the continuation of Shadovar.

As for the peasants, I tend to see them as being colonists from all corners of the world. Golden Farrow, Madina, and Giask mostly. Poor people, mostly sailors and craftsmen, artisans of all sorts, having emigrated from the other spots in the hope of a better life, far from the monsters and the wars. America, in some ways, now that I think of it. Kind of anachronistic, but I don't think there were any massive migrations and colonizations during the middle ages anyways.

I understand the no non-humans rule and I can live with it. But sometimes, I just want to play Nubliglub.  ;D

An undead (as in, re-animated human) is the only fantasy thing I've ever cared for playing. Giving back a second life to an epic character makes him that much more epic, imo.

The second attack on Paisly was not quite as well co-ordinated.

The first one we landed some 25 of 30 nobles the same turn.   And then proceeded up into Terran all the way to the city.

And it was a 78+ hour trip for units with Siege I remember. . . ugh.  That was a pain.

After the failed second assault I think we vetoed any assault via the sea route again :P    Just takes WAY too much coordination to make work.

Madinans spend all their time on the land. They even built themselves a silly bridge for the crossing.

In D'Hara, we set sails just every time we change duchies. Or realm. Being on an island doesn't make you any better sailors than the Giaskians.  8)

Heh, maybe we should instead switch the emigration restriction to Dwilight instead of BT. With the way BT is now, and the likely result that we won't see any future Invasions in the same form as we have thusfar, I see no harm in letting people start directly in blight-ridden BT. On the other hand, I think it would be a slight jolt for people to be forced to have only one character, and be unable to roleplay Sir Deathrider Midnightdawn as a guitar-playing flamenco-dancing ninja detective scientist (I'm pretty sure you can get away with that on AT). Well, at least they'd get yelled at for doing that on Dwilight.

So my thought is that we do the immigration only for Dwilight, and lift BT's restrictions. Or at the very least impose the restriction on Dwilight and leave BT the way it is. But that would mean both testing continents are immigration only, which I don't think is a good idea.

Call me an elitist, but I kinda like that you can't create new characters on BT. Mind you, I kinda hate that it means we get so many less people, too... but that's a lot because of how estates work. The plus side of being less is that it takes less to topple any government. :P

Nothing wrong with having no description (Seriously who reads them anyway?) But having a really misleading or inaccurate or vulgar or poorly written description often detracts from the whole purpose of adding atmosphere.

I read them, when I have a reason to look up said region and the time to spare.

The Divide, oh god! That's the worst, despite it looking so cool.

It's meant for priests and courtiers, if you ask me. The kind that don't fight the monsters, but rather just tell their peasants to suck it up as they pass through.

Mind you, that's a bit less true since the travel changes to rogues. Used to be that rogues could cross any one of these mountains in a turn. I can't even imagine how dreadful for normal characters crossing those must be. And the realm would be doomed to being poor.

I was not talking about the successes of the attack its self... i was rather talking about the success in navigating and coordinating that sea journey by the most greatest attacking sea fleet ever gathered in Dwilight ;)

Off course i don't deny that once we arrived there, we where beaten to utter pulp.

Yes, the "success" of navigating and coordinating everyone arriving over the course of 3-4 turns. I guess that was an intended pun for "attacking in waves", since you were coming from the seas?  8)

Because some of them suck.

Because most of them still don't have any.

Feature Requests / Re: Change the government without a revolution
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:38:02 PM »
A rebellion started in Bara'Khur because of my fiddling and suggestions of further changes to the government system. Turns out a clique thought I was trying to freeze them out ;-) Honestly, I wish it was as easy as you two make it sound. Changing the government system is an open invitation for ambitious/seditious individuals to crawl out of the woodwork. I'm surprised that others have seen government changes get such easy rides.

Depends on whether the strongest clique is in power or not. In cases when they aren't, sure, it'll likely stir up a !@#$ storm. If they are, though... that's another story.

Out of all the stuff the "Saxons" blatantly ignored so they could rewrite the history of northern Dwilight the way they wanted it to be, the claim that they were the best sailors ever is what bothered you? Besides, maybe they /were/ better than the Madinans. Madinans have no special dispensation that would make them the best sailors the world has ever seen.

IMNSHO, claims such as "best X ever" are pretty qualitative, and subject to individual judgment. So long as it's an IC claim, then they can claim whatever they want. It's natural for different people to have different opinions. Now, if the players start OOC arguing "this fictional civilization I just invented were better at something than the fictional civilization you just created", then, yeah, that's lame.

Aside from that, have fun with the project. It's a lot of work, but it should be pretty interesting.

Everybody knows that D'Harans are the best sailors ever. Madinans stick to the land 99% of the time.

That being said, pre-history is a pretty darn long time. Cultures evolve and replace themselves. Just as the Toltecs came in first and the Aztecs came in after, there's no contradiction in saying that "X were here in the past" while saying "Y was here in the past", as "past" is vague.

Yeah, I don't think it will ever happen. If you put your realm in a crappy place, you have to deal with the crap. Otherwise, every realm that doesn't want to fight will just intentionally lower their food supply. It would be a big neon sign saying "Go for the cities!"

You make it sound like not having a good food supply ratio is not a big deal.

And city-states make for munchy snacks.

No characters can be created on BT, which means it gets less people, but is more likely to retain those it gets. Theoretically.

Why doesn't D'hara send a few armies to help their allies fight the monsters? It'd give you lot something to do besides pissing money away in tournaments :P

Beats me, I'm not in charge of these things. If it were up to me, we'd always have troops in Barca fighting off rogues.

There must be some reason...

There is nothing against the SMA in playing a bossy character that orders around everyone else though.

I prefer scorning and making nobles that don't follow orders feel shameful. I don't use cap locks to yell at people in my orders myself.

I'm not sure we should be making code changes like this just to increase the viability of a chosen realm location.

It would not only affect D'Hara, though, but all realms in comparable situations. Granted, you won't find the same geographic circumstances elsewhere, but as I said, I think that if big cities secede to form city-states that always lack a lot of food, they should be viable without having to pick a fight with likely vastly superior neighbours. Such a measure would help out the smaller realms that would otherwise not be so able to pick fights themselves, as there's a direct link between food supply and realm size (while smaller realms go from both extremes, large realms usually at least break it even, if they don't produce surpluses).
