BM General Discussion / Re: Order of battle?
« on: August 10, 2017, 03:53:50 PM »
It caused a few unexpected situations for sure.
Is it feasible to change the order of battle? or will it take allot of work?

The commoner shortage is definitely a problem too, yet it's not just a lack of commoners its also a lack of determination.
Many aren't really actively playing.

Vita,
It's good to hear you are receiving the comments and suggestions here but it would be useful to tell us if you simply don't know how to respond yet.
Else others will feel ignored, which we really cannot afford right now.
The frustration among players is very serious, i hope you realize that.

I'd also like to offer you any help you need in or out of game, just contact me.
I am sure there are others here who are also more then willing to help you improve the situation if you can use it.
It must be quite demanding for you doing this all alone, hopefully you still enjoy playing the daimons.

I dont think anyone in my realm or other players i encounter on beluaterra are happy with the rogues staying and the current invasion.
It is good to do something about player density, but not like this.
We can just let Beluaterra alone thill the next invasion and then let the rogues deal with player density instead.

To improve the current invasion, why not stop putting daimons idly in regions instead of just attacking.
They are blocking human troops from marching/ playing most of the game.
Perhaps a twist in our story would help as well. If the story gets boring: create a plot twist.

I think most of us would hate to see the daimons dissapear without a reason.
The important thing is to keep the story going and allow others to follow this.
Which is a problem that many here have adressed, not much if anything at all is shared.
So perhaps we should figure out a solution for that problem?
I think the problem is mainly caused because something happens once or twice with an explanation or a clear cause and effect which then has to be relayed through the players characters in game, which is clearly failing on most issues.
Just asking around in character you can clearly tell the other characters don't know either, only some seem to withhold information on purpose thinking it will give them a better position during and after the invasion compared to other human realms.
Perhaps the information, when it becomes available could be recorded on a wiki page or repeated somehow in roleplays, the daimon roleplays could be used more to describe how they do things, or how they can do things and repeat that every time it becomes relevant.

The whole anger from frustration towards the end phase of the invasion is very real too and we are having players starting to play less, some quit and others are going to quit if nothing is changed very very soon.
It's easy to complain to Vita, but its definitely not easy for him, so please have some respect here.
He should finish what he started and not suddenly change direction now even if a majority of us want to, it would ruin the invasion further.
What will help is suggestions or Vita simply asking for help.
Perhaps he shouldnt have played or play the daimons all alone.
either way these issues should be resolved and not ignored by anyone.

Either way hopefully what i just read here won't mean the invasion is just going to continue on one part of the continent, what concerns me even more is the increase of rogue, i am sure most of us aren't happy with Beluaterra turning into another endless dwilight like rogue battle.
There is good stuff developing in Beluaterra, the game should give the players room and not overwhelm it with rogues.
I am doing what i can to keep the players i am playing with to stay playing right now, because they are getting really demotivated.
Luckily we got some of our own stuff going but most of that is sort of frozen due to the current situation of Gotland just beeing under constant attack for months now.

Most addicts relapse in their first half year/year, so yeah 3 months might be even more effective :P

A few warnings with links on quick information on the current state of in game stuff before an account is deleted might also work.
Like facebook it could show the things you'd be missing, losing and other players missing you.

It sounds aggressive but it's quite common and effective.

voted as well, but i think messages on certain forums for example are more effective.
Also do we have a database of all deleted acounts? We could use it to contact all players that stoped playing with an update on what changed in bm or an opportunity to check the political maps.
Give them a little taste of what they are missing.
I am quite sure it will proof effective.

Ransom prices drop incredibly over time, in about 3 or 4 days you will definitely be able to pay it.

I think the first upgrade costs more gold, either way one of my characters has done several upgrades on existing skill bonus for far less gold.
The upgrade isn't that much either, last one i remember was 3 or 4%.

BM General Discussion / Re: Best Unique Item Names!
« on: July 25, 2017, 07:22:35 PM »
Why not invent a backstory for the existing items? When you come across an item, express giddiness at discovering the long-lost crown jewels or your realm. Or a dead realm's crown jewels, allowing you to pass as their successor. Or some ancient family heirloom. Or a sacred religious item.

It's much easier, I think, to create backstories for existing items than to create items for backstories.

True, and i did that for a few items, but most of the time it doesn't happen.

« on: July 25, 2017, 06:01:23 PM »
I'm not inclined to manually create unique items based upon forum requests. Over a year/many months ago, I also increased chance of acquiring a unique item on each island, and having watched battle reports since then, I think each island has plenty of unique items with in-game references between historical character names, regions, original realms, famous realms, and living realms.

That's exactly what inspired me to do the request, but i agree there is more then enough.

The advantage of these kind of requests however, is the presence of an already written background story, which unique items now drastically lack.
Perhaps we don't need a background on the items, and their use alone by noblemen creates a story, but it is usually not documented.
These items have names which only rarely holds value to the players IG.
A request guarantees that it holds value to at least one player, and the available background story will create much more potential for it to have value for others.
Background is important for BM's roleplay environment and is very inspiring for others to add more in different ways.

Bm is simply niche that way.

This might be more true then we want, meaning we can't do much to avoid people stopping.
Friends of mine who tried BM either loved it(they eventually stopped playing too because they found it to demanding/addictive) or somehow never got it and quit fairly early.

I also contact new players in game immediately, but perhaps not always ooc.
However in my IC messages I do offer help and explain that the noble life is dificult at first and needs time to get used to, I also often do my best to give them immediate goals and things to look out for.
In Gotland I also started a mentor message group (the Goatling Shed), where new members are added to get special tasks (sort of training missions) and also ask questions about the game or the strange realm of Gotland.
In reality it is mostly ignored by the new players.

I agree that some realms are silent and perhaps a terrible start for new players, however i must agree with Wimpie that most players just don't communicate much.
I didnt see any of the new players leave, but i rarely see them communicate.
However some do become ' real BM' players, and Gotland is a great example of a realm saved by new players, the majority of active players are now all relatively new players (past year).
They arent great roleplayers and their characters quite standard but they do go along with the local theme and appear to be ambitious.
The frustrations they have expressed aren't really mechanics related but more invasion related (I am not sure if they really get the concept of invasions in BT, or if they just don't like the ways its currently going, things are very stagnant because of it and their and Gotlands new efforts all beaten down time after time)

Certain environments might be better for new players, however there is no way to know that for a new player.
Some realm descriptions do state that the realm is a place for young and old or something similair, but thats just written by one person during a certain moment.
It might not be true or no longer be true.

Perhaps we can implement some kind of statistic on amount of new players in a certain realm, if they stay and their chance of getting any positions or wealth soon.
A query for new players after 3 days, a week, a month and or a half year asking if they need help and how well their realm has helped them could gather more statistics and also raise an immediate red flag for other players to help the new player. (ideally their lords should help them)
If the player answers yes i need more help, it could become visible for all.
If the player awnsers yes or no on their current realm beeing helpful, it could show up on the choose your realm page.
These two simple questions are more then enough and won't take much more time then 10 seconds.

Meanwhile I will ask the relatively new players IG to respond to this topic.
Perhaps can do so too.

BM General Discussion / Re: Best Unique Item Names!
« on: July 25, 2017, 11:46:37 AM »
I'm pretty sure unique item names are put together randomly, based on a whole series of words/names/adjectives and whatnot.

Not sure that we're manually creating unique items.

There is a topic about this here: https://forum.battlemaster.org/index.php/topic,7728.msg158136.html#msg158136

They are random yet often based on various old/significant role plays.
But it is not done through player input directly.
Putting out requests for certain items/item names would be really neat, and enrich the amount of in game refrence with items.
Yet the extra work it could take might not be worth it.
