Temple size are actually less important than having good neighbours. If all (or even some) your neighbours are fully converted  their influence will be greater than the loss you get from not having a large enough temple. Sirion, EC is a good example. For years the largest religion there had no larger temple than a small shack (Due to lack of elders.) but still had 100% in most of heartland Sirion. If you place your bigger temples strategically you'll find that regions where you have never even went will be converted without preaching, shrines or any temples at all.

My impression about the massive CS in the scoutings was that most realised that scoutings were wrong quite quickly but still was demoralised by the real strength of the Daimons. I believe that the Riombaran general got captured or wounded around there and he had been coordinating the campaign. No one took up his mantle when that happened and everyone ran around like headless chickens.

Early on it was quite easy to capture the Daimon commanders by whitting down their forces until they got so weak that they auto surrendered. That didn't seem  to work at all after the horrors. Was this intentional?

The most frustrating part of about anything was our inability to kill Midnight of the East in the end. Three times we whitted down his forces and he kept standing...

Melhed was the only realm without a border on the blight. We quite quickly made the realisation that we couldn't keep enough forces at home to defend against the daimons and move out and fight them as well so we made the decision to let our lands bleed if necessary while we went on long campaigns over half the continent to fight daimons, only leaving troops enough to deal with monsters and undead at home.

I think most people expected to have killing Overlord to have more impact on the blight than what killing his commander would so I don't think that was a strange strategical decision even if it was made on erroneous assumptions.

Its a nice addition. The nuclear weapon analogy is quite appropriate. Everyone will want to have them but morally condemn their use. Don't mess with Realm XXX - they have the Scroll.

Small concern: If they have an equal chance of popping up in all regions they add to the superiority of large realms as they quite easily will be able to nuke smaller realms to the stoneage. But that is a concern without knowing the additional features Tom mention and hopefully they balance things nicely.

Feature Requests / Re: Food deteoriation in the marketplace.

I perhaps have had bad experiences. I'm extrapolating from a very few realms.

Those offer would almost always be realm only though and not visible to furrinners.

Feature Requests / IMPLEMENTED: Food deteoriation in the marketplace.
« on: July 25, 2012, 06:38:35 PM »
Title:

Introduce massive food deteoriation whenever food is removed from market without being sold.

Summary:

I believe that whenever food is removed from market without being sold whether this is because if the timelimit of the offer expires or because that the seller withdraws it from the market a large part of it should be destroyed. This to deal with the massive exploits in all realms on all continents at this time where Lords puts food on  the marketplace at max rate to protect it from deteoriating only to reclaim it when needed.

Details:

Exact rate of deteoriating to be tweaked and balanced but it should certainly be higher than the deteoriation in a normal granary. Possibly as much as 25% or even higher. Food that is sold should not suffer deteoriation at all.

Benefits:

Main benefit is to keep Lords from using the marketplace as granaries as stated above.

A nice side benefit is that it would strengthen the buyer position in trade. Today the market works poorly because buyers are vere dependent on having food to buy whereas sellers are not dependent on the income at all and can really starve a city until it pays up, whereas income from food is seldom more than a minor part of a Lords income. This makes it a matter of national security which in turns leads to governments regulating the market. This change would at least make it less interesting for Lords to put up lots that have so high prices that no one takes them up unless desperate.

Possible Exploits:

None as I can see. Its meant to remove exploits rather than add any.

Yet a political agenda could be as simple as securing control over a food wlsupply to end starvation in RegionX.  You would call that evil?  You monster! :P

Not really, the Grove wouldn't call that evil as it doesn't hamper but rather help the spiritual growth of its followers. What is considered evil is to disguise a secular agenda as a spiritual agenda and trick people to fulfill your political plots in the belief that it gives them some sort of spiritual salvation or advancement.

The problem with all this "separation of church and state" schtuff is that it makes that religion mostly pointless and unappealing. Your religion serves no purpose other than to occupy a potential power vacuum, and keep other religions from moving in. Which is, IMO, why so many religions on EC have failed so miserably.

Had I made the religion from scratch I would certainly have made it more interesting in this manner, but the religion was there when I joined and one of many anachronisms in Sirion (The realm proudly proclaims its adherance to 19th century ideology on the informaton page) is that the realm always proudly have promoted religious freedom at the same time as almost everyone have belonged to the Grove. This must have been due to theology of the religion as there is no real other explanation.

The church is not entirely apolitical though as it expects other religions to do the same and religions with secular agendas tend to end up on the evil list.

The Grove isn't really that proselytising even though it wouldn't turn anyone away. Amongst other things its adherence to the fact that secular and spiritual matters should be separated could make it fit in just about anywhere where people doesn't want realm policy to be based on religion, even if I doubt it would be the most popular religion anywhere else than in Sirion.

And last thing I heard from Erik the Cleric was that he had signed up for rethorics 101 at the academy in Avamar as noone listened to his preachings. After all the flowery speeches and roleplays he has given us I found that a bit amusing.

I have actually felt that that the Grove have lived up a little and that my priest character doesn't walk around in  a vacuum amymore.

What was the official stance about realms trying to regulate food prices with the new system? I have a distinct memory about reading about it, but I cannot remember where.

I havent read your post yet, except for the first red thingy, and well... Fingolfin in Thalmarkin has not received any event-RP yet. According to Iscee Plaraveen's report IG it seems like OG received it though.

They were posted near where the portal daimons where. I'll have Ivagil send you a copy.

I think it is intended. Tepmona who produces a large part of Melheds food was barely selfsufficient when shadowed. It produced gold as normal, but you couldn't hold court so it was hard to maintain the place...

Given that it took lots of adventurers the time between the last invasion and this one to come across enough portal stones to make a mess of things I doubt we'll get enough of them to make an even worse mess by tomorrow. My advy has one if someone wants to try ;)

I actually think he is in Rengo...

Now he only needs five moore.

Hmmm.....
