Okay, so the issue then is that I cannot appoint myself Margrave of BR, because I cannot take an estate in the region (when transferred over it joined the other duchy and so I can't be lower than the other Duke) and so I can't make myself the Duke.

Other than resigning from being ruler, is there a way to get around this? Seems kind of severe to me...then again, this game has gone to great and extreme lengths to do severe things to me

Can a stronghold be its own duchy? If not, how were we able to have one before? If so, how come I am unable to make one now?

Wow, this is awesome! I know what I'll be doing on my day off! Add more if you can, and I'll keep my eyes peeled for new things too. There's nothing like a video database to offer new players (and old!) a place to see the history of the era we are playing in, and to get new ideas from things that have already occurred in the past. I saw a documentary on Catherine the Great recently that talked about a peasant guy who launched a revolt against her pretending to be her dead/murdered husband. I wrote that down for later

When we saw the report that the ruler and the other prominent noble left the continent I told the Fellish that they must have had a romance and ran away together, maybe RP it that way? hehee

You can always hold another death duel...odds are pretty low of surviving two.

I don't know about that. Bowie survived three death duels and escaped execution. If the gods want the character to live, he'll live no matter what's thrown at him. Skyn could be one of those fated few. Odds are ever in his favour.

(eeww, I can't believe I said that! I no like Hunger Games....must wash hands...)

The continental scope, nationalism and alliance webs of Battlemaster diplomacy would be more appropriate for a 19th century setting than a medieval one.

Hmm, an enlightenment to post napoleonic period (so 1500 to 1830ish) version of Battlemaster, sounds awesome! Imagine all of the families of our medieval nobility in that time period. I'd play that for the rest of my life.

I called this years ago and have been actively (at times) trying to encourage and build alternatives.

and another example that I will not share, and a fourth example that I haven't released yet and probably wont.

Basically, the end result is that they choose to keep it as it is and that's that. If you do not like it, find an alternative. If you can't, build one. I did! That's part of the beauty of BM. If you're strong willed enough you can do anything, even go against the grain!
