Dwilight / Re: Knight/Region Density/Efficiency
« on: August 17, 2014, 04:12:22 AM »
no, this is incorrect.

A lord cannot have more than 50% of the estates, NO MATTER HOW MANY KNIGHTS. They cannot tax higher than 50%,  REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A KNIGHT.

BUT... their efficiency - and so their own gold - cannot be maximized without knights in the other estates.

So, a knight NEVER DRAWS GOLD AWAY FROM THE LORD, but CAN increase it.

That's the whole design behind the new estate system.
Efficiency of the estates is determined mostly by their size, not by whether or not they're occupied.

except that's not true.

a region lord can't get his productivity above 76% (roughly) without knights on the other estates, and can't maximize his taxes on the other estates if they are empty.

the statement that 1:1 is optimized is false.

EDIT: actually, looking at my lordship, it doesn't seem to matter on maximizing taxes of the other estates whether they are occupied or not. Efficiency, however, needs that.
I don't think that's correct. For a large realm like Morek, having lots of knights is of little benefit. Knights just cut into their lord's, duke's and ruler's tax revenue, giving them less gold with which to hire militia, build workshops, repair fortresses, etc. etc.

Dwilight / Knight/Region Density/Efficiency

I've said it many times that the low density is mainly due to the fundamental economics of the game. The most powerful, stable, & prolific realms always have a ratio close to 1:1 because that's how you optimize your resources.

Fewer nobles per region = more gold.

The glacier plan was an attempt to force higher density instead of changing the economics, so density is gravitating back to the natural rate. Far from being a success, the glacier made things worse because it drove players away and it didn't accomplish its intended objective.

Also, not something I'd want to complain about, but Realm Loyalty in Giask is at 101%. I'm happy with those numbers, but my enemies may accuse me of stuffing the ballot boxes.  :)

I haven't received the usual region or duchy reports for the last 3 days, and the last full turn might not have run at all. My region is Giask on Dwilight.

Not a big deal but on the 'construct temple' page (EconomyTemples.php?Action=NewTemple) it refers to my character as 'Marquess' but as a male I think it should be Margrave.

As the Marquess of Giask, you can order the construction of a new temple belonging to your faith Cult of Bloodmoon.

Development / Unpausing in monster country
« on: July 15, 2014, 12:28:33 PM »
I've seen a couple of times where chars who were paused presumably before the monster invasion on Dwilight are now unpausing and finding themselves in the middle of monster country and immediately getting captured. Most recently Hyperion Harte unpaused a few days ago, was immediately captured in Uppervia and is still in prison. Maybe these chars should have some kind of get out of jail free card since prison is not a very nice way to welcome someone back to the game.

My understanding is that they will be teleported to their capital when they're released, but what happens if their realm is gone, i.e. Niselur, Phantaria?

It's low but it's been increasing every day and has roughly doubled in the last 2 weeks.

It's been stuck at 20% for 2 weeks.

Thanks, Anaris. So the lack of improvement in productivity, the inability to do civil work or family investments, is that caused by a bug or lazy peasants? Like I said, we've been in these regions for more than a month, loyalty, morale and realm control are all good, but productivity seems stuck.

It's Giask on Dwilight. I believe the lord of Girich was having the same issue.

Tax has been at the absolute minimum for probably a month and still the region report says, "Taxes are much too high, production and trade suffer." I can't make taxes any lower. All the other indicators are at or close to 100% and have been for probably 2 weeks, but production hasn't changed. I can't do civil work and I can't do a family investment until population increases, but it's been increasing about 500 peasants a day. The population has roughly doubled since the last time there was any change in production. If that's how it's supposed to work then fine, I just want to make sure it's not an glitch.

BM General Discussion / Re: Player of Atanamirs account lock.

I think the ideal thing would be to have some kind of big BattleMaster get-together, where everyone can actually meet the players on the other side, and learn to see them as real people. I know small events of this nature have happened in the past, but I'm skeptical that one could be organized that's large enough to ensure that it reaches enough of the prominent players on opposite sides of these entrenched conflicts.

More ideas are welcome. And if someone wants to try to persuade me that any of these ideas I'm rejecting are more workable than I think, I'm willing to consider it, too ;D
Maybe pick out 4-6 regions in the world that have the most BM players and organize simultaneous get-togethers in those places and connect them by video link.
