Title: Looking for Alpha Testers
Post by: Tom on March 17, 2016, 02:28:14 AM
I'm looking for a bunch of alpha testers, people who would like to play the game before anyone else does.

To sign up, post below. I need to know how many people I can count on.

I'm inviting everyone who checked in on other places, such as Facebook, to join here. The forum is the primary location now, I just can't post updates all over the place.

If I've got a device to play on, I'll be in (currently away from home for a while but hoping to get a MacBook of some type soon)

Got a PC and too much free time on my hands.

Also spread word to your friends. I would like to have about 20 people in the test game, because the game needs 28 players in a full game.

Website has been updated with some reasonably good documentation, so you can get a first impression of the gameplay:

I might be able to help in two or three weeks too, at least if giving feedback three times a week or so is enough for you. I'll surely be able to play through most turns, but elaborating about them won't be possible everyday. I am currently waiting for my new laptop, once it arrives I'll post once again to see how everything goes.

Thanks. Every eye matters, to catch problems early.

My pleasure, it's only a little return for what you have given us for years.

Game 2 just got a turn, I'm holding back game 3 a bit. Is anyone waiting for a game to start?

Create an account and simply join one of the open games.

hello. i downloaded the client, registered under my email and received an activation key and player key. i couldn't copy and paste either key, so i hand-copied em and neither worked. i'm receiving an "invalid id" message....any suggestions?

hm, copy & paste doesn't work? That sucks. Why doesn't it work? Which OS ?

The activation key is only for activation (clicking that link). The player key that you get after activation is what you need. And your player ID of course (something like 7 or 11 - a simple number). What is your player ID? Then I could simply give you a more simple key.

I've now posted to reddit to get some more testers:

If you want, you can comment there and tell others a word or two about the game so far.

I wouldn't mind helping, but I only have a chomebook for daily actions. I have a linux machine, but I don't boot it up every day :D Is it possible to install using Chrome, or how do I do it!

I have no experience with Chromebooks, so I honestly don't know. The game client is a standalone program, so it needs to be installed locally. If your machine doesn't allow that, it probably won't work. I could compile an Android version if that helps anyone, but I can't guarantee that touch input works.

Let me play around with it.... it's just a pain some days for me to boot up my server machine ... its on my tv I like to watch my shows when I get home from work.... I away from home for work like 15 hours a day... more that I now am on work comp and have appointments to follow and all that... I'll just keep an eye out!

I'm happy to give feedback, but I am running into some issues.

Step by step:

1) Downloaded Build 16 of Linux version
2) Extracted to Desktop
3) Clicked on the Schwarzwald.x86.  Nothing Happened.  Used the run option, nothing.  No Error message.

System Info:  Ubuntu 16.04 LTS x86_64 (4.4.0-22 Kernel)

Possible Problem being that I'm running a 64 bit OS and the client is coded for 32 bit?

It's possible. I don't have any Linux desktop systems anymore, so sadly I can't test (same with Windows). I just thought in general the 64 bit systems can run 32 bit software?

For the most part, I understand that they can run, but if a dependent driver isn't there (because it's no longer supported for 64 bit or hasn't been installed to specifically cover it) then it won't run.

I did some research and it looks like there have been some problems if you aren't using the proprietary graphics driver for AMD/ATI graphics cards.  With the start of Ubuntu 16.04, this driver is no longer available for use (compatibility issue) and a revamped open source driver was developed with AMD/ATI.  Works great, but could be the snag behind this as well.

If I find new information, I'll report it.

I'll compile the next build in 64 bit. I don't think we have many 32 bit systems around anymore.
