I like the kind of 'spirit animal' religious cornucopia Sandalak has. Fits pretty well for the Insatiable Snake, too.

random hollow "faith".

But...the hollow part is where all the best creative juices come from!

I have toyed with the idea of using drug-induced visions as a source of religious inspiration. Every time I think about it, though, I cringe at the thought of it being done in the manner I've typically seen: Hippies, watery eyes, marijuana euphemisms, and munchies. I have to admit that, from what I have see, the CoB on Dwilight has generally managed to avoid that kind of thing. Perhaps it is because it, so far, has had limited reach? Or perhaps the people involved have managed to set a particular tone and expectation that makes that kid of thing rare or non-existent.

I haven't really seen any pot-head religious types. I suppose people aren't real familiar with mescaline or DMT, so I can imagine people hedging the 'chemical enlightenment' RP, though. Not that I want a religion that reads like an errowid forum, but religion and drugs have always been good bed-fellows.

I took a different approach with Enoch. RP'd some crazy alchemy potion that let you breach the divine plane and parley with gods. Makes for a good deus ex machina (lol). The trip isn't what is important, its what the trip means.

I'd say that tournament grounds will come in handy when a winner is certain but before the reset (end-game party!)....but damn to see gold squandered when you only had 30 pieces to rub together was frustrating. That, among other things, led me to stick with Sandalak when Korlok flipped.

I'm sad to hear that SA is still dying. I knew entropy and sycophants were already putting SA on the downturn, but I had hoped that Helm and Kabrinski could usher in a grand ol' revival in the face of turmoil. Shame the schisms didn't really take, and no religious war erupted.

Not sure if I ever got a chance to interact directly with you, but I hope you come back with renewed (as well as less stressful) vigor. It sounds like you made interesting times happen.

Ah, I think I get you. War Islands is designed for a 'win scenario' (3 cities, no peace). You can not care about winning, but you can't say 'there are no winners' for this Island because the intent is for one realm to take all cities and the island to reset. There is quite literally a winner.

Honestly, I think the phrase 'there are no winners' is poor. Sure there are, even on other continents realms/folks win and lose. That isn't the point to BM (as I understand it), though. A better phrase would be 'the winning doesn't matter'. The only incentive in BM is fun, and people shouldn't really needto win to have fun. It should be fun all over.

I assume you are referring to Sandalak withholding the killing blow. Although I personally agree that 'cease-fires' between two realms are too 'diplomatic' for WI, folks have already declared those fine and dandy. Is it any different to declare a cease-fire because you want to gang up on one realm versus declaring one because you don't want one realm to join your enemy? Both seem valid tactics if we are ignoring 'diplomatic relations'. The second one just seems more 'playing with friends' considering Ikalak's rough start.

I thought there was no specific 'right' way to play BM, anyhow.

Feature Requests / Re: Formation of a rogue army.
« on: July 12, 2014, 01:43:02 AM »
I wonder how many monsters there are nowadays. Of course my char could just ask an ambitious knight to go scout past Candiels...

I had access to that information for a brief time (as a member of 'rogue', I could see detailed region info of all rogue lands), and saw about 3-4K in rurals, and 7K+ in cities (but those varied quite a bit). Seemed to correlate with how early/late the lands were abandoned.

Enoch was stripped of his new-found clairvoyance fairly quickly after I started calling for bids on info-brokering to Judges. Shame I never got a chance to write up RP's about 'visions from far away', but it was certainly too much leverage. I think Swordfell killed my Mystic Band of 'rogue militia' in the Desert of Silhouettes, too!  >:(

Development / Re: Giving back in-game mentors

I'd like to see banker take the role of mentor for newbies in realms. With auto-orders for food and the region-balance, it would be a good spot for a realm-mentor. A nice title, some extra gold here and there....would be a a good incentive program.

It seems that some are surprised that every time a match is lit there isn't some big explosion. The moment Enoch was in a position of power within Swordfell we were mobilizing to deal with it.

Unfortunately for Enoch, Swordfell wasn't quite as weak of a realm as he assumed. You can only betray so many before everyone knows exactly how much of a traitor you are.

It's ironic, Enoch never made oath of service to SA and everyone bitches that he betrayed them...while he made oath of service to Swordfell and was ousted for upholding it. People love pretty lies more than ugly truths.

The story of Enoch's rule is an interesting one, but you'll have to ask your ruler for the interesting bits. It was too bad that a third of Swordfell never took part in the whole drama. Hell, didn't seem like 2/3rds of the realm took part of anything until Enoch made waves.

Oh, and Swordfell is far weaker than Enoch assumed.  ;)

Why wouldn't Swordfell pick D'Hara as an ally?

Cause they are more interested in taking Luria's money and buying favors from Barca with it?  :-X

Sorry about that, just passing through. I've been trying to keep the mystic mischief down, but even when I don't mean to do anything Enoch seems to throw a wrench in everyone's plans.  :-[

BM General Discussion / Re: Player of Atanamirs account lock.
« on: June 27, 2014, 12:39:58 AM »
I've always liked playing with Alex. He was always fair, helpful, and supportive. I've seen him mix IC and OOC, and if he got nasty with it then punishment is understandable. It isn't like the player is banned from the game, right? Alex can come back, start fresh, but losing his old family breaks a bit of his OOC investment.

The way the Titan Message was worded made it sound like Alex was a dick, though. He wasn't, really. He seems like one of those 'passionate' people who really get invested. It is good in that he was a backbone character to a realm (and its players), it is bad that he was prone to getting really mad and lashing out. We all mix IC and OOC to some degree and it pops out in different ways. Addressing this would be better than the blame-game.

No one in the continent is trying to make it more interesting or make it more controversial. Everyone is trying to go for the best path that you won't lose.

Yes, we have been through that discussion numerous times. But I can't help but tell it here again. Please leaders, especially of Morek and Astrum. Please make this continent a little bit more fun. I am close to quitting this continent, not that any of you really give a damn anyway by the kind of response i actually got.

Enoch is still kicking around, so you can't say no one is trying. He's lost the rulership of Swordfell and been banned, precisely for going against the safe and easy (boring) path, but I was able to inject a little bit of drama into an otherwise mute Swordfell.

Making an interesting character requires readiness to accept failure. Only dire struggle is really interesting, and in a game where people don't want to let go of their sandcastles.. they miss out because they aren't willing to take risk. Makes me sad for them, but doesn't mean I can't have fun. Maybe it'll rub off on someone eventually.

If swordfell joins the war on the side of dhara and such, then I'm disappointed in the leadership of that realm.

Better than what they are doing now. A realm with the name Sword in it and it hasn't had a single war.
