Title: Collecting Other Communities
Post by: Tom on August 09, 2012, 09:55:37 AM
Over time, many forums, other games, roleplaying communites, etc. etc. have been mentioned on the forums. I would like to collect them in one place - here and then maybe open a Wiki page.

The purpose is twofold. One, to give BM players other things they might be interested in. Two, give us a list of places where we could find more interested players once the game has stabilized again.

So post yours below, please, even if you've already mentioned them elsewhere on the forum.

Aelyria.com was mentioned, but I know nothing about it.

We've been around for a while, this is a Battletech game that's been in development for years now.

There is a group of BM players who have been playing games of Diplomacy Online.

I brought some players from Shadowclan.org over the years. Maybe 3 or 4 still play BM. Great RP community.

I found out about BM while playing Star Wars Combine:

http://www.swcombine.com

Tom mentioned that BM "could find more interested players once the game has stabilized again".  Is BM not fully functional right now?  What does "stabilized again" mean?

I imagine that getting the trading distance fixed, new messaging system in place, and probably one or two other bugs/enhancements.

FTFY. ;)

There's only 91 open bugs right now. That's down from 117 3 months ago.

The Combine has been in a constant state of development for over 13 years so I'm used to bugs.   :)

You still play that?  You have my sympathies.

Tom, I'd recommend BM never affiliate itself with the Combine in any way, shape or form.  You don't want how many of those players act.  They'll befriend people OOC to gain trust just to betray them and get ahead in the game.  It's really a sick community.  They are the poster child for the "play to win" mindset.

Painting with a pretty wide brush, do you think?  I agree that there is a lot of IC political manuevering and back-stabbing but I've never run into an OOC issue.  I've been in the Combine for about 2 1/2 years and have met a lot more nice people than bad.  Actually, the tone of your comments are worse than any I can remember in the Combine - and I've only been here for three days.  The "sick community" comment is about as ignorant a statement as I've heard on any message board.

I was there for ten years and was a member of the game staff briefly in addition to being a forum moderator.  Add in leading/owning several factions and having even been a member of the Imperial High Command.  Compare that to your 2 and a half then get back to me.

I have to agree with Draco, I was a member of swcombine.com for 10 years and it is nothing but trouble. I hope Battlemaster never becomes like swcombine or affiliated with it at all. Members of combine tend to use OOC means to gain IC results, its a game full of users, backstabbers, godmodders, people that will spend real life money to gain IC items, will hack people's sites just to "mess them over" in game. It truly is a terrible game.

Thrace, if you've only been there for 2 years I'm sure you'll experience the things most combine members would admit to themselves, or you turn a blind eye to it.

True.  There've been plenty of hacking issues over the years.  Not to mention the constant issue with multi-account cheating. :/

I have no problems with the assertions that either of you have made but to paint the entire community as "sick" is a bit over the top.

Don't worry, we're not all so aggressive here. Some of us are worse...I mean better! Better! Damn it.

Oberyn, none of those things are what I would call a healthy community.  As you agree with the assertions, you seem to agree with that fact.

Moderator moment: debate the merits of some other community in a thread on the OT boards. It has no place here.
