My characters reached 80% skill level for leadership for swordfighting and leadership. Is there any way to go above that? I know for swordfighting I have to participate in tournaments but they are rather rare.

Tournaments and battle. At least one character has hit 100% in swords before.

I haven't seen battle improving any sword/joust skill. I see leadership sometimes.

Yes, you can go above 80% and many have.
