Title: The Blight coming to Dwilight
Post by: Penchant on March 30, 2012, 10:15:36 AM
Roleplaying Event   (just in)
Message sent to everyone in the vicinity of Paisly (24 recipients)

As the morning sun rises over Paisly, strange lights are reported in the sky. At first, you dismiss the peasant superstition, but then dark clouds rise up from somewhere near the harbor, slowly drifting out to sea. This is no ordinary smoke, for it hangs heavily in the air and does not disperse. Like smoke, it does make breathing difficult.

The cloud gets thicker and larger, and then some peasants report that they are hearing strange noises from out at sea where the clouds are gathering, hanging over the water now, not moving despite the wind. They almost seem to be waiting...
Event Dummy

Perhaps the blight is coming to Dwilight, which I mean the Zuma will start blighting regions, not just claiming them though it does say Event Dummy so perhaps its only a teaser for the future.

I would have thought that the Event Dummy was just the "player" name for these RP events Tom puts out. But still... time to sound the alarms, methinks.

Yes, the same "Event Dummy" exists on Beluaterra to announce these kind of things.

Beluaterra just had something happen to her too. It might just also be fallout from that :)

Maybe it's the Zuma starting to build a bridge to invade Morek.

One can always hope..  ::)

Zoom in the Dynamic Map to see the blight near Paisly...
Title: Re: The Blight coming to Dwilight
Post by: Tom on March 30, 2012, 01:39:04 PM
technology hint: The whole "zoom in" or "zoom out" advise I read all the time (also regarding changes to the map on BT) is misleading.

What's going on is that your browser is caching the image tiles of the map. If you change to a zoom level that you haven't used for a day or so, it will load those images as the cache has timed out.

A force-reload also works.

Ah, that explains it. I was already wondering why it would have been only there.

Paisly?

That's just wonderful...

What can I say? Tom is being very smart to set the start of an invasion near a Chenier's back door. Everyone will have a hard time cooperating with him to fight the Daimons. :P
I wonder if he'll let the Lurians move troops there to help...

Three unfounded assumptions in one fragment of a sentence. Wow.

Given the way that the Zuma have presented themselves to all the humans, I don't believe that they would be the ones Blighting. In fact, if I remember their lore properly, they did not get along well with their warlike cousins and that's why they left for BT.

Perhaps someone should ASK the Zuma instead of assuming?

It was rather ironic, kidding with Chenier character's paranoia, not supposed to be taken seriously.

Strange lights in the sky... Dark ominous clouds... Definitely aliens. :)

I've not heard much, and I'm on all sorts of channels and relatively close to the action. Barca isn't that far away. So far, just cloudy looking blightiness stuff.

Probably just a high pressure system moving through a cold front meeting a cell of cumulonimbi-like clouds combined with the higher than average rain fall this year around Paisly resulting in some odd cloud formations, wind gusts and sun rays coming through strangely.

=========
Roleplay from Haktoo   (2 hours, 57 minutes ago)
Two female Zuma arrive in front of you, they look into the distance at the dark clouds. "This is nothing of our doing. You need to look to the foolish humans here, one or more of them toys with things they have no knowledge of."

======

"Strange Creatures   (13 hours, 40 minutes ago)
The peasants tell tales of disappearances in the villages near Paisland. You yourself see strange creatures flitting between the trees, moving too fast to be seen. And the weather seems strange, much too warm for winter. You wonder if this is linked to those clouds near Paisly..."

How does it break SMA?
Title: Re: The Blight coming to Dwilight

You're right. This is obviously not an immersion-breaking April 1st joke. Daimons are going to overrun every island on BattleMaster. DOOM DOOM DOOM  ::)

By the way, Francis is going to start using a cell phone to contact his peers. It's not breaking SMA because it's a magic device that a wizard made for him.  ::)

It's the "April 1st" part that I'm unhappy about. It's introducing real world holidays to a SMA island, like an island-wide snowstorm on Christmas Day. I would not be complaining if this happened in July, for example.

There have always been April Fool's jokes on Dwilight. That isn't new.

At least this one still fits with the theme of the game somewhat still. I mean the Zuma are here, so its not like the netherworld suddenly breaks things. And think, let's say its real! This would be the best time to add it in, because no one would suspect it.

I take back my assumptions, then. Fake or real, my complaint is that what has happened already, had happened on April 1st, a real world cultural day about deception and trickery, to a SMA island. (Well it's April 1st in Europe right now. Still 3/31 here in the States.) If it's fake, it breaks immersion. If it's real... do I really have to explain why Overlord's flavor of Daimons are not SMA?

First, BattleMaster exists on BattleMaster time, as displayed on the login page, etc. I don't care what the time in the US is.

Two, you really should pick up a sense of humour at the grocery or gas station or wherever they sell those. I hear it's great. I also hear some of the best jokes work precisely because they break context.

I lost my sense of humor in a high-stakes poker game.  :(

Why is that wrong, how are those things not SMA, according to wiki the holiday exist in medieval times and I am assume it snowed in medieval times as well.

Everyone liked the last April Fool's joke. Not so this time. Maybe there's something wrong with the joke?

The other ones I know of didn't disrupt the game, at least, but I guess if you don't think it's your problem, never mind.

I must have missed how this has caused actual disruption in the game? Deal with it IC with what you see. If it turns out to be just hysteria induced by the stories brought about from Belua then we go with it that way, if it turns out to be something actually happening within the game, then we go with it that way... Either way, I don't have a problem and find it amusing whatever happens :)

While I admit it's a little weird to see on the SMA island, I don't see anything wrong with this joke. Daimons did threaten to invade other continents if BT falls. And it would make RP sense for them to do so. As BT's not doing incredibly great, I don't see a problem with some signs of it showing on other continents, even if the first purpose is to scare people as a joke.

Besides, EC and AT were briefly invaded in the past. Just roll with it IC, it's not that hard.
Title: Re: The Blight coming to Dwilight
Post by: egamma on April 01, 2012, 04:36:29 PM
SMA is about the players, not the environment.

And, medieval times had all sorts of rumors--dragons, wizards, fairies, witches, etc. These firestorms are just rumors from peasants seeing naturally-occurring forest fires, stirred up by strong winds. There actually exist such a thing as fire tornadoes--they're normally only a few feet across, but peasants are prone to exaggeration.

They were repelled. The strength of invading forces was relative to the strength of the realm they were invading.

Really? Interesting. What happened?

At the time of the Third Invasion, daimon, undead and monster hordes turned up across Atamara and the East Continent. Their lords began speaking in a peculiar, unintelligible language to those in their vicinity and it seems they were looking for something. Seemed like there were maybe portals to wherever they wanted to go in Beluaterra? Something like that. Never really did get to the bottom of it! Anyway, there were human wars all over the place on Atamara at the time, but for the sake of humanity we forged a brief ceasefire and worked together against the hordes. It was pretty cool really.

I think the only purpose was to create ambiance and make the other continents more aware of what's going on on BT.
