We've gotten a rash of new registrations, and they seem active.
Cool.
We got a plug on the forums of Dwarf Fortress (http://bay12games.com/dwarves/), which have a pretty active following.
Let's hope they can spread the word further, too :)
Yeah, each realm I play in has had a new player join in the last few days. They're not all joining the same realm from what I can tell.
A Battlemaster plug from Dwarf Fortress, two of my favourite games! Let's keep an eye on that DF topic to see the problems of new players. It seems a few are already doing just that though.

Me too, I've been seeing lots of new folks too. That's what made me curious. I was worried for a second that the realms I'm in might have something suspect, but then seeing the bigger bump just made be excited for a rise in players.
Seems like Summerdale is doing quite well out of it :o
We also may likely get a few players from one of the new forum games Perth set up, as it has drawn players over from another forum to play a game here in this forum. They've been encouraged to check out BM and that may likely work out.

Was about to say the same thing.
If we can get a good plug on the Paradozx forums as well it could lead to a lot of new players, I think. The guys over there a pretty big into historically set games (hence, Paradox games) and a lot are big time Role Players as well. I could see some good things coming from that.

They cannot put a link to here in the their forum. Paradox policy.

That's interesting. How are they all joining the WiR game then? They had to have given a link somewhere.

They can put a link to an IRC channel, and communicate from there.
that is great, now i feel the urge to join Summerdale as well.
Those player would need good mentors, IC and OCC so we can retain them, hmm... we have to go and check the manuals on wiki to see if everything is fine and up to date.
Peace!

Can they just say "Hey, a cool game I've been playing is called Battlemaster (just google it)."

Not really sure...
The boom on DwLight continues?

I also posted a link to battlemaster to "the wargamer" forum as well

I mention that I am on Dwilight and that we are looking for new nobles... I suppose a few could have come from there and they are very active on that forum.
Hope it is ok to advertise for BM, we are always in need of new nobles on Dwilight and did not figure that offering to help teach new players the game was a bad thing....

Bay 12 forum has aggressive moderators, I put a link there to another game and got banned from the site for it... Though I did get over 300 hits before I got banned and at least 40 new players too.
hope you have better luck.
We've had a recent surge of new players in Terran.
Is this due to outside recruitment or mostly to due to interest in the ongoing war, I wonder?
Terran and Summerdale where the two focuses of the DF immigration, AFAIR...

We got a fair share of DFers.
Wow, that sounds dirty...
I'm one of the many immigrants from bay12 and found the whole RP idea intriguing. They're pretty much sticking to Dwylight as the realm to link into for new players. In some senses this may be either a good thing or poor, too much heavy RP may turn off the more casual or strategy based section of some audiences (I actually like the SMA RP part).
As another idea, it might be worth mentioning the mobile site for Battlemasters. I don't know if it's in heavy use yet (or even if the devs want much traffic going through it), but it works, it's fast and it's an ideal platform for pseudo-turn-based (but sort of RT) style games like this one. It's quite handy to be able to do a turn on your lunch break or just before bed. I use it on my Nokia E63, which has next to no memory or processing power compared to modern touchscreen phones, so most platforms with a reasonable browser should work fine (I'm using Opera and my phone to type this post). It doesn't seem particularly data heavy at all, so costs are pretty low for players, free on wifi.
It might draw in more players, and it also gives current players a good chance to always get the messages/orders they need to function within a realm more easily. It only really takes 10 mins to do a basic turn in BM, it's typing the RP posts back to people that takes the time.
Anyway, I don't know if it would help uptake of new players but it might. We live in a very technological world. The devs posted it on bay12, so I guess anyone is free to use it. The mobile site is: m.battlemaster.org/login.php (http://m.battlemaster.org/login.php)
Give it a try if you haven't.
Ps, I've never heard of anyone getting a ban on bay12 for posting about a game unless it was to do with porn or they were bots (or just trolling very badly and consistently). The "Other Games" bit is for precisely that, and is how I ended up here. The stuff you do get away with on B12 is pretty wide in scope, so I don't know how you managed it really :)
