Title: Locking threads
Post by: Chenier on May 11, 2012, 02:54:59 AM
Completely and utterly useless, dude.

People will just create a new thread, and then you'll have content all over.

Locking threads because you don't like what people are saying in them is not a good policy.

Yeah. If a thread is stupid, keep it there, and quarantine the stupid away from good threads.

This is something I think we should all agree on, regardless of who we consider to be stupid or not.

That's the point, you might want to reread.

Or they could just delete all obvious Zuma Bashing posts instead of locking the entire thread

We will not tolerate the bashing, harassment, and defamation of another player. Period.

ZumaGM is a player of this game, and subject to the same protections of the social contract as everyone else. Filling the forums with hate posts about the Zuma is not only stupidly pointless, it is detracting from the usefulness and value of the forums, and slandering a damned good player who is doing his best to enrich the game environment as directed by Tom.

Got a problem with that? Pick the link below that best describes your opinions:

Go ahead. Click away. Pour your heart out to the only person that can help you.

Until you're ready to click one of those damned links, then quit puking your accusatory, slandering, irrational, whining, bull!@#$ all over the forums.

  • Got a problem with the Zuma presence on Dwilight? tom@battlemaster.org
  • Think the Zuma should be removed? tom@battlemaster.org
  • Think the Zuma player is a powergaming !@#$%^& who takes an OOG grudge in-game to wipe out the realms of players he doesn't like? tom@battlemaster.org
  • Think I'm locking too many threads? tom@battlemaster.org

I've already explained my point of view to Tom. Happy?

Not my fault if the Zuma don't allow us to ignore them. Not talking about the Zuma while discussing recent events is like discussing WWII without talking about the Soviet Union...

I don't blame him, he probably went insane from reading the same complaints over and over. He should have closed that other thread about 20 pages ago.

And nobody's telling you to do that. What they are telling you is to remember that the player of ZumaGM is an actual human being, and as such, is entitled to the simple rights laid out in the social contract. What you can do is discuss recent events involving the Zuma without complaining about and accusing ZumaGM of being a horrible person. Nobody says or does those things to you as a player, and if they did and it was known, they'd get smacked down in a hurry. What makes you think that trashing this player is any different?

This.

Though locking threads might not be the most effective countermeasure. If people break the social contract in the forums, why not temporarily ban them?

Tom is the only one able to issue tempbans or permabans on the forum.

That's not entirely true. The global moderators (we have 2) can increase the warning level of someone, and after enough "bad points", the system will block that person from posting.

To be fair, most of the messages that could be interpreted as personal attacks were done by those who throw out the word "whiner" every post.  It seems some people had criticisms they thought were justified, while others took criticism about game mechanics and storylines too OOC personally.

Not all personal attacks are made public, but they still happen, unfortunately.
