Title: Religious Spread Maps
Post by: Draco Tanos on August 16, 2012, 01:28:59 PM
There are some religions (generally older ones) that have religious spread maps not like those offered by the game (ex. http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/File:MAE_Religion_Spread_2.png ).

From my understanding, there was some tool in the past that created these.  So I have a question.  Well, two questions.

1.  Is it still on line/available for use?

2.  If not, does anyone still have contact with the creator?

gsklee had a generator.

http://gsklee.byethost18.com/Wikimap/Religion/ReligionWikimapForm.php
but it's dead. (it was 2007 when i used it...)

(it's listed under gsk's userpage... http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/User:Gsklee)

thing is.. the ingame map (used to, no idea about now) can only be done right after a spread survey, costs hours and gold... also gives a map that's a tad big... that's mostly why we (the order, AT, back when) used gsk's map

Yeah, I know about the maps the game provides.  Hence why I was asking about the, well for lack of a better word, neater ones that it seems gsklee's program was able to make.  They're cleaner, more organized, and tend to...  Fit a tad better on the wiki.

Perhaps one of the programmers/devs know.  Would it be possible to do something similar to gsklee's program with the new dynamic map system?

It should definitely be possible to create something with the new dynamic map system that achieves the same end. Unfortunately, I don't know how offhand, and working with that system is a bit tricky, since it's kinda broken on our development server. (This means that we can make changes, but not test them before we send them to the live server. Not a good idea when you're still trying to learn a new coding tool.)

It is possible, we could use the % number as a transparency value, for example. But like Tim said, it would need a bit of fiddling.

If there was an option to export it/directly upload it to the wiki that'd be an awesome addition that I'm certain many religions would thank you for. :)

I'm working on it. There will be at least an experimental spread map soon.

I await it with eager anticipation!

As I am sure many of us do.

depends on what it does, doesn't it.

does it reveal the spread of every religion to everyone and dog? or does it only reveal your current faith?
