Title: Calculating values
Post by: Eduardo Almighty on January 21, 2014, 08:14:02 PM
I hate math, but I'm curious. Then, I will ask for some help.

It's usual to see in some documentaries how they calculate great personal fortunes and how much these fortunes would be worth in our current currency. First, I believe we would need to consider how many grams of gold we have in "1 gold" and then calculate using current gold prices.

I woul like to know how much money I needed to build my temples :)

You can google the average weight of gold coins back then, and look up the current gold price :)

I have actually done it before, and it seem that gold coins were actually quite rare (especially with standard mintage and weight). But I can't recall any more than that, and it is now bedtime!

Will your temples be made of gold?

Why not? With the cost of more than 2k gold to reach level 8 and considering I built many level 5 temples and a level 12, yes, it can be made of gold. Mainly because before reach level 8 you had to pay many times with different values in gold as well.

I'm considering gold because they don't ask for food to build temples. They ask for gold. Also, because I'm considering monetary values and our monetary system is based on gold.

The Taj Mahal was not built with dollars, but it's still the way we are used to calculate its value if we had to build a new one today.

You'd better be of checking how much gold grain/bread was worth then.
Then you have a better value estimate of your gold in the timeframe.
Then compare that value with food prices today and you see how much your gold is worth today.

Coins weight difer from place and time,
The italian florin was about 3,5 g  pure gold.
About 100 euro today.
But that says nothing of its value during that time because we dont know how much things cost.
