Title: Toggling rogue, is this allowed?
Post by: pcw27 on December 06, 2014, 12:46:04 AM
Someone in my realm was issued an "Ask to leave" order. They went rogue then immediately rejoined the realm thus clearing the "ask to leave" countdown. Is that exploitation of a broken feature?

The "ask to leave" feature is specifically designed not to place a ban on a noble if they do, in fact, leave within the specified time period. That means that there's nothing preventing them from coming back.

If you use that feature on a noble known for their shenanigans, as every Himoura has always been, then you pretty much reap what you sow.

If you want to be absolutely certain of getting rid of someone, then just go ahead and ban them.

I disagree on this one. A noble asked to leave should not be able to declare rogue and immediately rejoin the same realm. Literally so fast that the two messages have the same time stamp. The "ask to leave" timer should keep running. If they still belong to the same realm when it runs out, then they are banned. Toggling rogue status may not be an abuse, but it is definitely a loophole.

Ah, now that, I will agree with.

I'm not sure offhand how "ask to leave" is implemented, but I'm reasonably sure I can do a much more state-aware job of it now than Tom could with BM in the state it was...back when it was first written, probably in 2001 ;D

Just so long as you bear in mind that all this will change is that next time, Jonsu will be asked to leave, go rogue, wait 3 days, then rejoin.

In no way does him doing that prevent the judge from banning him, though, so I don't really see a reason to change any of the code.

The judge didn't ban him. If he really wants him out, he still has all of the tools to make that happen.

And indeed, the judge did ban him the next day. Asking to leave is a nice version of banning. It let's the guy get out without the ban. Not always appropriate, but it has its uses. And yes, she could sit there for three days, and then rejoin. But that's three days of possible capture while rogue.

It seems like a pointless feature really. If a judge wants to give a head start why can't they just send a message out to the realm?

You could, if you wanted.
