Title: OOC banning players whose accounts were locked by GMs
Post by: Sacha on July 17, 2011, 03:06:31 PM
With the recent multi sweep, a few Lord and council characters were locked out of the game. I was wondering if an OOC ban to remove them from their positions without having to wait for the 7-day auto-pause timer to go into effect was permitted in such cases.

Well, in some cases it can have a profound effect on the realm. For instance, a locked-out lord sitting on a bunch of food can cause a lot of problems on Dwilight. Try having 7 days of starvation in a city, when you can do nothing about it because one of the players in your realm turns out to be cheater.

@Kai - He just said why. Because there are region lords and council members amongst the locked. Perhaps you can do without your general or ruler for 5 days but not everyone can.

you could treat is as a compulsory celebration / festival of the banned

Why don't locked accounts behave as paused accounts?

To give the locked people time to appeal? <shrugs>

Sometimes mistakes are made. If you're too quick with the ban trigger, what will you do when it turns out to be a mistake? Give the position back? If it's a real cheater then he'll be removed without a doubt. If not, you might have contributed to at least the enmity of another player.

OOC bans are inappropriate for locked accounts. They have already been punished by the Titans/Tom. They will auto-pause/auto-abdicate in a couple days, if the account is permanently locked.

Not only that, but only Tom and the Titans know exactly why an account was locked. You could be OOC banning someone who's unit had an inappropriate name, or who asked someone to not go to a tournament. Or they may have been inappropriately locked as part of a multi-sweep, and could be unlocked in a day or two when things shake out.
