I am looking to start a rebellion with one of my characters and I just wanted to know how some of you managed to do so successfully. How did you recruit nobles to your cause? what did you rally around? those kind of things.

Look at real life, many of things people rebel for today and back then are simply the same.
The best rebels are those with excellent rhetoric and charisma, so if you have those you'll have no trouble recruiting nobles, as to how to actually approach that, well I would consider building up some sort of relationship between you and a few of them, get to know the lay of the land so to speak. You'll easily find those who might feel the same as you.
Hmmm basically, play Noble Politics and the Noble Social games and eventually you'll be in a position to start openly talking of Treason.
-
Also, gather a cause: An inefficient, tyrannic, heretical or otherwise evil government is more likely to find people willing to fight it than a normal one.

If in doubt make it up! But do make it believable ;)
-
Tell the judge you are going to try and root out the rebel movement and then go and start recruiting, if anyone cries at you for being a rebel and tells the judge on you, the judge will just say "don't worry he's working for me"
So you will essentially just be immune from a ban....
I shouldn't have shared this secret with you :P but seriously there are many devious games that people play to grab and maintain power and it all involves lying heavily and decieving people.
-
Just make the Ruler look bad, find some people to conspire with, get the upper hand in the military and wait for an opportunity :)
Also, make sure to get them by surprise. And find a strawman to be 'ringleader' in your stead, so when you get caught you can sell the others out :P (if you're really feeling bad)
The judge idea is pretty simple, but sounds effective. Upto now, that is :D

Unless he says "no", that is. The judge isn't forced to accept you in the underground.

Presumably he already has a cause - otherwise why would his character be wanting to start a rebellion ;)

Family fame? :P
-
Family fame? :P
Just like in real life, there are people who are willing to do anything to be famous :p
-
Family fame? :P
I would have thought that would have been an OOC reason for inciting a rebellion, and therefore frowned upon, no? Aiming for family fame always sounds a bit like powergaming.
-
Confirmed not to give Fame
....
Leading Rebellions
-
True, it would be an OoC motive. I was, in any case, talking more about publicity of the rebellion. It could have a more personal cause (like wanting to take over the ruler position, or to put in power someone you trust more), so I was suggesting he would make publicity of a more public cause (freeing the realm from a tyrant, heretic or whatever).
Leading a rebellion doesn't give fame, indeed. My bad.
-
What about leading a rebellion because you, you know, want power? That dovetails nicely with an OOC desire for more fame points, and there were plenty of completely "unjustified" rebellions done as powergrabs in history.
-
Yes, like the one just done in LN >:(

You would say that. 8)
-
You could define it as a powergrab to make things more fun for more people rather then one person?
-
I've rebelled in various ways a fair number of times, but you should have a core strategy.
No matter what, personal letters are key. Write tons and tons of letters. Figure out what each noble wants and show how the current ruler is stopping them from getting it, do them a favour or two and then bring them onside. It really is just all about making sure your noble has lots of friends.

Agreed on all points.
-
Find several small issues and blow them up, raising them to the realm wide level. Be certain not to be overly critical, for you dont want to get banned before you get a chance to gather supporters.
Council doesn't share information with realm? Hint at conspiracies. Complain that nobles are being taken for granted.
War not going well? Blame it on incompetent military led by fools who are leading the great realm into a gutter.
Complain about cliques, complain about families hogging positions at the expense of knights who have won glory to the realm... The list is endless. You will surely get some supporters. Befriend younger knights and the older ones without posts, and slowly explain the failures of the government. Once you have a bunch of cronies watching your back, you can aim for bigger fish, maybe a lord or two for added legitimacy to your noble cause. If you did it right, the rest should be history. ;)

Not giving away all my trade secrets ;-) But, how glorious is the rebellion mechanic? Forget bringing back the War-Islands. I'd play an Island where there were constant rebellions. How good would it be to have a proper little civil war. Rebellions are such fun, yet they never last long enough for my tastes >.<

Like Luria Nova?

Like Luria Nova?
Like somewhere in the north of dwi..
-
Pian en Luries fluctuates between states of "rebellion" and "plotting". Never a third option.

Like somewhere in the north of dwi..
Please do, we could use the excitement.

I'm new and not all to sure on things that can be done in the game. But I do not want to play little Mrs. Peacekeeper. I fully intend to be vocal about going to wars or fighting when I get some more experience. Lasair is about money and power for his realm. He wants to shed blood for his realm. You could say he is a pure blooded patriot, that wants to see his realm as powerful as possible.
But this will be after I learn how to play more, how mechanics work.
EDIT: This is in the rebellion thread, but I don't mean rebelling. Or maybe I do? Depends on what I learn about my realm.
-
You joined a Lurian realm. Give it some time, you'll be rebelling soon enough 8)

Peace loving hippies?
-
Quite the opposite actually :P We have more infighting than a Taiwanese parliament meeting!
-
As long as we expand territory and fight some, I'll be happy lol. Rather, Lasair will be happy.
