Title: Strombran!
Post by: Forbes Family on February 01, 2012, 11:56:28 PM
As of today the realm of Strombran has been formed with the secession of the Duchy of Strombran from the Cagilan Empire. This secession was done with the knowledge and blessing of both the realm council and senate.

With a new realm comes new opportunities. There is land that needs Lords and estates that need to be filled. Come one, come all!

Okay that is it. The whole "Evil Empire" shtick was a funny piece of propaganda at first, but now it's past getting old. We're not the ones with infiltrators coming out the wazoo. We're not the ones raping and killing everywhere we went. We're not the ones who started this war.

If Tara and Coria can be called CE's puppets, then Minas Ithil is Eston's puppet because, hey, MI was Eston's colony way back when. And hey, Barca was a colony of Terran. They must be a puppet too! And Dwilight realms are just a bunch of puppets with dead/dying puppet-masters!  :o

And obviously starting new realms is a bad, bad, evil, bad thing to do. It might inject some new life into Atamara, and we don't want that. Oh no no no sir. The righteous course of action after winning a war is obviously to return all the territory you took, apologize to your opponent for making them declare war on you in the first place, and invite them to try again next month. Then everyone can go back to complaining about how nothing ever changes on Atamara, and all will be well again. ::)

Yeah. No need to be serious here. It is pretty much same thing as the US calling Soviet 'Evil Empire'

Chill, man.

Obviously it's a game and NONE of us are actually evil (well, mostly ;) ). From the perspective of the the Empire's enemies and opponents (IC, of course) they really are evil and oppressive and the bad guys. Of course, from the Empire's and her ally's perspective it's the other way around. And it's fun that way, and frankly that's how it should be.  ;)

No, you're right. CE doesn't have infiltrators coming out the wazoo.

That would be Talerium. ba-dum-ching!

(I'm not kidding, either. There were three Talerium infils chasing one Eston infil through Agnilar yesterday...)

Seriously, though lighten up. As former leading of Sanguis Astroism, ruler of Astrum, and instigator (or co-instigator) of wars that have destroyed at least 5 realms on Dwilight alone, I'm quite familiar with repeatedly being accused of being the Evil Empire, cowardly bully, yadd, yadda, yadda... CE/Tara is the big guy on the block. You're the powerhouse that steers the island, and shows almost every sign of winning this war. You have to expect that you're going to be the focus of attention. Revel in it! After all, it's your 15 minutes of fame. (Even if it's lasted for about 4 years ...grumble, grumble...)

If you don't like being called the evil empire, there is a simple solution to that. Just wipe out everyone so there won't be anyone to call CE the evil empire anymore. If Hitler defeated the allies and won the WW2 he wouldn't have been a villain... probably.

Nice coat of arms. That should liven up the Atamara map a bit. Most of the emblems on Atamara are both ancient and look like it.

Who made those awesome coat of arms again? He made the Realm Emblem for DoA on the East Continent. I wouldn't object his work all over the continent maps if he's still around :)

I think Fury made that one. The one for DoA was made by Shenron (and he still has plenty of banners available, but sadly not many people use them)

So, argue all this IC and use it as counter propaganda. Indirik made a joke, its a game remember.

I would not object to in-game propaganda (there hasn't been much). What I am objecting to are these IC propaganda being spread on what is supposed to be OOC forums. We can't have a CE-related thread these days without people chiming in about how evil CE is.

People who play in Atamara can probably figure out that it's just joking around, sure. But not everyone who reads these threads play on Atamara. I don't want anyone who's shopping for an AT realm to join to end up with the wrong impression about CE. I don't want to lose potential players who might have joined CE but heard that we were evil baby-killers. I also don't want players to join thinking that they are joining a realm that actively tries to be evil. They are going to be very disappointed.

Sour grapes, I say. New players probably don't jump on the forums first thing [citation needed], and when I first signed up I believe the game itself steered me toward Atamara, and CE in particular. I've had a lot of fun learning the basics of the game there, and it'll always be my first home (Since having made my first character there, his family is native to Trassing), though as monolithic as it is I've found that my characters can make more substantial contributions to the game on other islands.

Basically when people start complaining about your realm/religion/organisation in the forum, you know you are successful.

I'm much the same. Started my first character in CE, though don't have a face there anymore. I actually have a character on the other side of "the current war" (can someone name it or...?) and he certainly thinks CE is a bully who won't allow any other realm a chance to have a halfway equal fight. Old and current loyalties aside, I oocly don't consider CE to be at all in the wrong with anything they've done. They're bigger, they're better. Sure, they build buffer realms and allies to defend their borders and throw their weight around the continent, but what realm doesn't attempt to do one or other or both?

Sour grapes? Probably not, but its a fair point made by Enri that people will look at the forums before joining a new realm on a new continent. I do it myself. Judge activity, position on the continent, etc. Were I reading this and hadn't played CE, I'd avoid it the same way I avoided Astrum. Where's the fun in joining the realm where you're efforts will have least effect? That CE's a republic helps that, and would in my judgement in picking a realm, but were I hearing "Evil Empire" type stuff on the forums, like I did with Astrum, I wouldn't be interested. Joking, genuine sour grapes or just playing the line, the end result really is the same.

Anywho, best of luck to CE's newest buffer. New realms tend to be fun to be a part of, so I hope the players there have a ball :)

Finn.

No need to worry about that. Everyone knows that BoM are the baby killers. CE just sells BoM the babies that they take from all the lands they loot with their evil armies. Then they profit, by going and selling all of the stuff they got in exchange back to the people they stole the babies from. In the end, CE just burns down both places and takes all the gold they used and keeps it.

I mean cmon, how would any of that ever make someone not want to join your realm?

I used to be quite wary of CE. Partly because I always seemed to end up with their enemies, partly because I didn't like how they completely dominated AT politics for a long time. But since I ran out of 'fun' realms on AT I decided to give Evil Ol' CE another go, and I gotta say I quite like it there.

Yep, being in a new realm is always fun. Until it gets taken over by relative newcomers  :o Smaller realms can succumb to apathy and numbers of other nobles.

The thing that I like the most about the CE is that people will always speak up on issues. And second (related): the monolithic presence and history. You can really get your character into the realm and enthused for supporting it, and so do others. There is a real sense of caring for the well-being of the realm (refer to point 1).

Well, some of our PMs had more trouble with the "speak softly" part than others. That's just a cost of doing business when you're a Republic. Eventually you'll get a PM who's an excellent campaigner and a horrible statesman. If CE were a tyranny with a dictator who had years to learn his craft and build influence networks... well people would still whine about CE, but I'm sure many more complaints would be fabricated rather than legitimate.  ::)
