Title: Atamara: We're not afraid to Gang up on you!
Post by: Dante Silverfire on April 11, 2012, 04:04:33 AM
So, here's an idea that I have been thinking about because apparently people are bored with the current war on Atamara.

Have every realm on Atamara agree to the following:

On the first day of every month, a realm is randomly chosen from among the realms of Atamara, and for the duration of that month every single other realm declares war on them and fights them utterly. At the end of the month, peace is immediately offered, and the process is repeated. Any realm which chooses to break this agreement, will have the entire rest of the continent declare war on them until they are destroyed, then the process continues.

Discuss.

Not gonna lie, I kinda hate it. First no matter how random it truly is, the realm the gets attacked is going to say its rigged. Second it will cause the last couple realms to be attacked if you took all who had been attacked out of the drawing strong enough to ally and easily defend against the other realms because if your realm just got crushed it doesn't have much money to go attack a far off realm, plus they can't get their land back unless their neighbor is the next target because thats breaking the agreement thus crippling every realm that gets attacked. Third its completely ooc of character with no roleplay reasoning behind it, because what realm would be willing to have the entire continent attack them in real life. Fourth you force every realm to accept your terms since they would be breaking the agreement by not agreeing in the first place and get ganged up on.

The end of the agreement only applies after everyone agrees.

I don't know about you, but of course its rigged. CE gets killed first.

But will CE's allies agree to go to war against their powerful ally. Or will the war stay the same with CE's allies continue fighting all those who want CE dead? What happens when CE is dead and you decide to rig it so CE's ex-allies get taken out next to? I think they will think of it to and decide not to do this.

Hey people said they were bored....I was just offering an idea.

I mean, how is it any different than now? Everyone wants to gang up on their targets and never have retribution. At least this way, they have a % chance of it working that way.

I thought we already did this. The rest of Atamara has already declared war on the Greater Cagilan Co-prosperity Sphere. 8)

Naw. We'd be doing it if Tara, Talerium, and Coria decided it'd be interesting to declare war on CE for a month or so. I mean, that'd really be a challenge. (Fighting a war against yourself)

It would be over pretty quickly, to be honest. :(

If you want an interesting challenge, try ganging up on one of the corner realms, since they only have a short border to defend. I vote BoM. ;D

From what I hear BoM pretty much killed themselves already.

If this is a serious proposal, it's way too OOC for me.

People just need to stop being so cozy with each other and start taking some risks from time to time. The problem is that people have for so long formed these inseparable power blocs that basically turn any one on one war on the island into some ridiculous gang bang, so everyone's become completely risk averse. It's up to the players to reverse that trend. Thank the gods for the players that put the current war together; it's the best thing that's happened to AT since I started playing. Someone had to take a chance at something or the island was going to die of boredom. Anyone complaining of boredom now is frankly being too careful; there are a hundred opportunities to liven things up, if you're just willing to shoulder the risk.

But the reason they formed those power blocs in the first place is because they're risk-averse.

It's a vicious cycle, and not a new one.

You're welcome.

However, I'd like to point out that the problem with the inseparable power blocs is not that they exist, but that their existence means that anyone who wants to go against the curve and break away from them, will die to the other inseparable power-blocs. The solution: Join Coria. We're the little engine that could!

This kind of plans won't give much for this game but long term calculations which might take months will keep us alive. Of course there are always someone who just want to rush.

Strategic withdraw when Tara comes marching through Upperfell.

C'mon, we gave the Carelian army a good work-over in Lurgrod - there's only partial truth to your statement :)

I only remember one good battle between Suville and Carelia, the rest of the battles were all a bunch of nobles vs one or two of the other realm because they were stragglers but to insult Suville anymore they even give false reasons for war unless they are just that stupid. They say the war is for food but both regions they try to do a takeover on they do a brutal takeover so that when they do take it over its worth crap foodwise plus instead of being a decent realm and asking for Carelia to try and sell some food to them they just declare war out of the blue and say its a misunderstanding.

I am pretty new here...but does no one make fabricated land claims? or fabricate insults or something (intrigue) related to start wars?

Fabricating a land claim wouldn't make much sense, since except for places like Balances Retreat on Dwilight where everyone basically has claims on it, claims aren't generally made, its more of a we want your land so we will take it by force kind of thing. For insults, rulers can just pick out something aggresive from a message from a prominent member of the other realm and say its a insult to him or the realm but generally an insult unless huge won't start a war unless it was about to happen soon anyways. (Feel free to correct me for those who have had more experience than I)

Why would we ask you to sell us food when we can just take the regions that provide it? I mean, think a little bit longer term here. You need to be able to feed your realm if you want to go to war. The reason is legit, we have starving cities and don't want to rely on CE or some other bloc to feed us.

I don't know that it's necessarily a legit reason (insofar as casus belli goes), but it's legit enough that I can easily defend it in-character, and I like it.  8)

We've had 2 bigger battles. The first (small) Lurgord engagement that Carelia won, and the second Chasnoff engagement that Suville won. I really liked the setup of the Chasnoff battle though, shame it didn't work.

I like the war, sure it might not be going Carelia's way, but it gives a military challenge for a small realm vs large realm in an actually doable fashion. Much better odds than when it was CE and Suville vs Carelia ;D . I'm actually a bit mixed on what I hope for, 'cause as the general of Carelia I of course hope our realm would prevail, but then on the other hand I'd like to see how things turn in the south if Carelia gets wiped out. Especially since it'd release a lot of nobles angry at a lot of realms to join larger realms, though might be they'd simply leave Atamara.

But when you loot a region to  the ground and let it go rogue, then move on to another region to brutally takeover it doesn't seem like Suville is actually going for food though.

It's going to be tough for Suville to justify taking more than Lurgrod and Tarkhog (and maybe Bolgar).  The war aims were pretty explicit and we wouldn't be able to feed Sullenport even if we did take it (assuming Suville wins, of course).  The real question is: what is Carelia going to do after the war?

I'm not sure what sort of force Tara has in the area (though since we retreated I presume it could make a difference), so let's assume that you lose; would Carelia be willing to accept a peace where you lose Tarkhog and Lurgrod or are you too far beyond trusting us dirty Suvillans at our word?

Of course, I'm starting to wonder if we can actually hold either region.

Because of the repeated betrayal and lies if we had peace we would surely not trust you at all and make sure we had all Carelian forces nearby for quite some time before we even thought about helping our allies with their war I am rather sure.

It was spun pretty well within Suville; most of the country was fed up with Carelia by the time we broke alliance, especially since Suville lost a hero in the most recent expedition which got blamed on Carelia as well.  By the time we went to war there wasn't even much opposition to it.  But what do I know, Ronan's just a knight. :)

Quite honestly losing half of its farmlands would probably be a deathsentance to Carelia anyway, I doubt Suville wants or needs Carelia's trust. Then again you could consider losing 3 of 4 duchies to be "the end" of a realm already so who knows. I think this will be a longish war seeing Lurgord and Tarkhog rogue several times, and then eventually politics will ruin a nice fight one way or an other.

Haha, so it always goes.  If the new food system hits stable soon then you should be okay; it makes buying up food more than easy.

If the new food system hits stable soon Suville has no legitimate reason to go to war because since Tom did the changes to the food ouput on Dwilight I have been having a hard time to find a buy offer in D'hara, in this is in the winter so Suville will obviously be fine with how much food it gets then.

Post by: OFaolain on April 17, 2012, 02:52:26 AM
Wow, if D'hara's not buying food, nobody is.  It's been a real pain to try and sell all the surplus Jorradith produces; Gaston's not buying and Darfix doesn't need it yet; managed to sell some a while back to Chrysantalys but that was about it.  I think it's just that the cities haven't run through the stockpiles they got when Tom implemented the code; hopefully they'll start running out and us rural lords can start making bank.

But yeah that would pretty well kill our excuse for war.

To get off-topic for a moment with this thread I too hope cities will make more buy offers so that my trader may make more bank. I am already kinda rich but its always good to have more plus I haven't got to do much trading with my first trader which is kinda a bummer.  I actually don't know what to do with all my gold since I already bought the largest unit I can and still have tons to spare.

On the same coin, the new estate system will free up a lot more nobles for conquest. Realms that don't want to expand now will have a lot more opportunities. More expansion = more conflict.

Or so I'm told.

Anyway, glad to see that we've cleared up the misunderstanding about why Suville is picking on Carelia.

Sure, I've done both. But you have to repeat the fabrication over and over to generate a Reality Distortion Field large enough to attract a following. Most people aren't up for that much work.
