Title: Pausing changes
Post by: vonGenf on June 25, 2012, 08:51:58 AM
Quote from: Anaris
A change to the way pausing works has been implemented today (and will go live soon). From now on, if you plan on going on vacation (or otherwise leaving BM) and returning at a specific time, you can pause with a Vacation Pause. This will automatically unpause your character at the time you specify, and while you are paused, you will retain many more of your positions and other amenities.

If you are going away for an indeterminate amount of time, and are not sure when you will return, or are not sure if you will ever return, you can put your character into Cold Storage. This will make it as if your character was gone for good (losing guild ranks, army sponsorships, etc), while still keeping them around for you to unpause later if you choose to do so, and retaining skills (though these will slowly deteriorate), honour and prestige, and gold on hand. Auto-pausing due to inactivity will also put characters into Cold Storage.

This has not been updated on the wiki. Has anyone tried this, or any dev willing to share on which positions will be retained? Specifically, I will soon leave for a ten-days vacation, and wonder if this option would allow me to keep my Lordship/Dukeship.

Thanks.

Vacation pause allows you to retain Lord/Duke positions—as in, you don't lose them instantly upon pausing. However, I believe you'll still lose them the normal way when you're away for more than 5 days...

Is this desirable? Discuss.

;D

It's desirable, yes, although I find this awfully short. I guess I can live with it....  :(

I'd say yes. Otherwise you could just vacation pause for months(didn't see a time limit for vacation pauses) and leave the realm hanging with an inactive lord while there would be active players being left out. Losing positions is good for the game.

I'd personally say bump it up to at least a full week (7 days) for the simple reason that a vacation pause SHOULD give you a chance to go on at least a short vacation without needing to worry about finding an internet connection.

Perhaps implement a vacation pause cooldown (another week?) so it can't be abused and constantly pressed?

There is a limit, though I don't remember what it is offhand. I think it's in the vicinity of a month (which, of course, is probably still way too long to allow Lordships to be in stasis).

The last thing we need are more ways for people to stay cemented in their positions even longer. Leave it at 5 days.

I am left to wonder however.... would anyone consider pausing for four days? In those cases, I just don't log in, that's all. I don't see where I would use that option.

I would pause for a long weekend for sure. :)

Any longer (weeks of vacation, ahh sweet vacation) I would just cold storage since it's not like I can't get a lordship/council position the second I get back as long as it's elected. (trollface?)

But...why?

Um... if you're not gonna respond to messages or the army for 3-4 days, why not temp pause?

I'm not familiar with the new system, but pausing used to cost you your unit. Maybe even your gold and/or bonds. And you wouldn't receive the messages from when you were paused, I think.

Whereas if you are just a few days away, you won't lose a thing. If you are gone for a week, odds are that after you lose the 5-days inactivity positions, you'll be back in time to be able to get them back.

Pausing is for when you will be gone for a while and you are in a dangerous position or otherwise threatened.

I just send OOC messages to the higher ups and others who might message me while I am gone if it is only that long.

I did not ask "Why not?", I asked "Why?"   :) I can see that it does not hurt to do so.

so.. eh.. what happens to the unit when you pause nowadays? usual militia if in own realm and chucked if elsewhere?

can't see anything else that would make sense... but thought i'd ask just to make sure.
