Title: History of the East Island
Post by: Tom on August 11, 2012, 04:51:43 AM
You will love this, I hope. Was a lot of work getting it right:

http://youtu.be/ANBOyeFiAKE

Time-lapse video of 7 years of history on the East Island, from 2005 to 2012.

And yes, the other islands are coming. :-)

You got it to work?! Very nice. I tried for quite a while to do it back when you first revealed the stash of maps you had, but could never get the programs to work properly...  It's pretty cool that I played through almost all of that history. :D

Wow.... I love the way the entire map just locks up from the last part of 2006, through almost all of 2007. That's the big continental gridlock that ended with the start of the second big war.

The way that the Ibladesh flags keep popping up and the disappearing at the end. Love it! "I'm not dead yet!" :P

Just love it. The moment when Sirion and Fontan kept exchanging regions. It brings back memories. And last 30s was me leading Sirion to destroy SoA \o/ 8)

So. Awesome. Never realized OR was so big! And forgot how huge Ibladesh was for so long too...

That was pretty awesome. :D

How many bloody flag changes did Ibladesh have?

Wow that was amazing, thanks for sharing Tom. I only started in early 2009, but it was really awesome to see the history I personally saw there as well with the gridlock in the north for so long between Sirion vs Fontan and SoA. Those were fun times.

Very cool. Really puts all our petty realm squabbles in perspective.

Almost brought a tear to the eye as I watched Itorunt expanding and reaching the point where the ruler decided that we were invincible and started our downfall, watching until we were no more... :(

Great to relive many moments. And to see how some realms have risen, and of course how other have fallen. I had to watch it again to see everything. It happens so fast.

This was really fun to watch.

I kinda felt bad about killing off Ibladesh, as Caligus's High Marshal.

Umm, I mean, BURN THE HERETIC!

Now, now.  Heathen, not heretic.

Well, depending on your view...

Indeed.

For those unclear on the fine distinction:

Heathen: One who follows another faith, that yours considers to be invalid, or possibly even evil.

Heretic: One who follows your faith, but has terrible blasphemous ideas about how it works.

And then you have Apostate:  One who commits a total desertion of or departure from one's religion.

So one can be a Heathen and an Apostate!

I was wondering if the Sirion - Fontan, SoA, Westmoor, Perdan, OI war was the bigger and largest war in the continent. Surely was not the most significative but in numbers was the biggest? Was the Ibladesh - Itorunt war larger?

Cheers.

Oh, you youngster. You missed the largest, and probably longest, war in EC history.

The federation of Fontan, Sirion and Old Rancagua, allied to the federation of Yssaria, Ibladesh, and Itorunt, all vs. the alliance of Perdan, Caligus, Ubent, and Oligarch. And somewhere in there was the birth/death of Avamar, Rancagua, and probably Omsk. That all ended somwhere in late 2006, having run for 4 or 5 years.

I'm pretty sure Yssaria didn't exist when I was on the EC briefly in 2004, so if that ran for 4 or 5 years, it must have also included the birth of Yssaria.

Did anyone noticed how Caligus nearly took Perdan's place on map?

Yssaria was already mature and fully-formed when I started at the beginning of 2006. Probably got started somewhere between there.

Omsk didn't have a birth as it was there from the beginning (I have said this on the wiki and am open for discussion about it if anyone thinks I've made an error)... My third character on the Island was the first one in Omsk and, therefore, its first ruler. No one else really liked the idea of starting in a realm that had just three rubbish regions (in a time when takeovers and such were not possible - you had what you had and nothing would change that...)
