Title: IC signatures
Post by: Barek (jerm) on May 23, 2013, 04:43:20 AM
Let's talk IC signatures.

I've seen a few out there - a character who always signs letters a certain way.

What have you seen that seemed especially appropriate or well role played?  What have you seen that seemed ridiculous or not well suited to the character?

Well, it's nothing exceptional, but Velax always ends letters with "Yours sincerely", to the point where I've got that as a keyboard shortcut on my iPad.

My characters always have a signature signature. And they sometimes change based on their situation.

Rather than talking about our own, let's see what signatures we can remember from other characters? In the end, that's their purpose, isn't it?

I always liked 'Pleasant days and pleasant nights'(?).

"Long days and pleasants night", from Hireshmont II ON dwilight. IIRC it's something vaguely Triunist.

Indeed, I believe its use originated with Metis Highland, founder of Triunism, and Hireshy has kept using from his days as a Triunist.

It's a Dark Tower Trilogy reference that Metis made into a Triunist thing, and then Hireshmont started using it, and kept it post-conversion. He also occasionally uses "humbly". If he ever uses that finish to a letter, its an acknowledgment of having bee soundly trounced in some contest. It's his way of conceding.

Onamont uses nationalist slogans.

Cyrilos uses a Way of the Warrior Saints proverb.

Alecsander uses kinda tongue-in-cheek Astroist slogans.

I tend to occasionally use "Momento Mori". Usually when someone annoys me, but in other situations as well.
