Title: Fizzy drinks
Post by: Eirikr on August 14, 2013, 12:22:48 AM
There was an experiment done many years ago back when work places kept pop in the fridge and you'd just stick 50 cents into a can.  People not actually paying for the pop (theft) dropped by some ridiculous amount (75%+) when they taped a pair of eyes to the change can.

What is this "pop"?

Aaaaaaaaaaaand go!

Coke as a generic word for soda is the worst slang ever! It refers to a specific type of soda! I can't tell you how many times when I used to work in a restaurant some Texan would get all mad after saying they wanted a coke and got a coke. "But I wanted a fanta!"

Yea, I encountered it in the Army too. I mean seriously. You order a *insert alcoholic beverage here* and coke, and you're going to get a tiny splash of booze mixed with a cola product and drowned in ice. Everyone knows this. So when you ask for a coke, you should expect to receive a cola product.

I'm friends with an army brat, and he actually calls it "cola". He's the only one I know who does that.

On another note, I know it as soda.

No.

If someone asks for a Coke, you ask "what kind?"

Granted, the guy shoulda known something was wrong when you didn't.

No. If someone asks you for a coke, you give them a coke!

Even as someone who has ordered a soda as a "Coke", I agree it is a fair assumption to just bring the person a damned Coke.

That said, I'm usually pretty happy with the result either way.

(Until the Dave and Busters waiter mixes Coke and Sprite [50-50] in response to my request for Ginger Ale, of which, they apparently had none.)

Go drink a Mind Eraser and say that again. :)

(Layered drink, carefully poured over a bar spoon: 2oz Kahlua, 2oz Vodka, 4oz Ginger Ale. Drink as fast as possible through a straw.)

Plus, I was... 14? at the time (and no, not ordering alcohol haha).

That's a mind eraser, not a ginger ale. Therein lies the difference. But at 14... Well I suppose.

Bah, vanilla is good! Best in canned or homemade, though.

This map is interesting to me because I've never noticed all the peculiarities in counties aroud shapes the country. that is AWESOME! but yea i think that survey wasn't the greatest. I've never heard a single person in my county call it coke and yet that is what my county is colored.
