Title: The Zuma
Post by: Velax on March 26, 2014, 02:13:16 PM
So what's going to happen with the Zuma when western Dwilignt is abandoned? They'll still be there, I assume, but no one's going to be able to interact with them.

I hear they're looking for new water front property in and around the Port Raviel region. Though with the recent crash in the D'haran housing market, who knows?

This brings up an interesting question - when the realms in West Dwilight migrate, what happens to the western chunk of the island? Is it frozen or made impossible to travel through, or could enterprising nobles still attempt to fight and colonize parts of it?

If you can recolonize it what was the point of moving all western realms to the east?

Good to see someone's been paying attention. ;D

It can be fun, that's why.

I think what wolfsong was asking is, will western Dwilight be "roped off" so that characters don't even have the option to travel there, or will it simply be uninhabitable? In other words, if a character wanted to go traipsing around in western Dwilight, however pointless, would they be able, or will the option be taken away by the developers?

Bingo. As soon as people migrate east, is the western island just going to be magically impassable, or will you still be able to travel, fight, and attempt to colonize parts of it (attempt being the key word, as I imagine monster CS will remain high.)

I believe Tim never said it will be covered with ice or become impassable. He simply said it will be 'reclaimed' by monsters.

Obviously many people do not know what it was like to be in the good old days when it was very difficult to colonize Western Dwilight. I am guessing it will be worse than before until the player density goes up.

So far as I am aware, there are no plans to prevent players from attempting to move through the western lands. Nor even from attempting to recolonize the lands. IOW: we will not be removing the option to travel into the regions, nor from running TOs.

This is correct.

But this is somewhat misleading.

Parts of it are still TBD, but suffice it to say, there won't be any easy way to get into the interior of the continent in one piece.

I never said it would be easy. Just that they could "attempt" it. ;)

Sir you are my hero. That gave me the idea of making some kind of GoT-esque Night Watch realm that'd try to keep one or two regions on the other continent under human control for RP reasons and that all realms would have to support them with some gold and food as taxes to keep 'humanity' safe.

If I get enough people to join me on that idea I might just do that.

Begin in Valkyrja and hold the Yggs, Aquitain & Gelene Outskirts.  If I could have 2 nobles on Dwilight I would totally join in; as it is if Corsanctum dies I might anyway.

Anaris, can we have the monsters not be bottled up behind the bridge (not so as to get like, 15k doomstacks rolling in every day but at least some crossover) so the threat of being overrun in the east is actually real and not just roleplayed?  I could totally justify Cathan going to join the Watch if we have to actually fight the monsters back just to hold down the bridges.

I remember even having a letter stored somewhere to send to the leaders of all realms to begin such an order of defenders. I must find it at once. Anyways, I'm going to wait a little while longer both IC and OOC to wait for more people to show interest and to finish some IC business.

I've been trying to create a realm like that (Night Watch-esque) for... Hell, about 5-6 RL years. Never had it take off, though I did lead a few ill-fated colonization attempts of the area around the Shrine of the Seeklander back when Dwilight was new, and briefly took Itau for that purpose. I think some of my ideas are still floating around on the wiki.

Funnily enough, my cousin had the same kind of idea... although his was a little bit more sinister in scope.

I like the Nights Watch idea.  The Kabrinski's will support it one way or another.

This is a great idea.  I would suggest forming a group which would also incorporate activity from adventurers.

I am in a few days time going to send a message to all rulers officially proposing the idea, and I will start making preparations. Let's see what hapens!

Who knows, if Asylon gets beaten, you might find 40 willing brothers and sisters in black...

Either way, this is a great idea with alot of potential.

If I could have a second character on Dwilight, I would definitely join up with the Watch.  Unfortunately, my character is currently in the middle of a war with Asylon... which means that I am helping give you 40 nobles with the destruction of Asylon.   ;)

On a side note, my character is getting up there in age so if he dies, I'll make another noble and put him/her on the Watch.

Monsters on western Dwilight might add an interesting PvE aspect to Battlemaster that has been seriously lacking - or has been lacking since the early days of Dwilight.

Monsters go West, monsters go East...? The hell are they doing?
Title: Re: The Zuma
Post by: Roran on April 12, 2014, 03:13:15 AM
Let me explain:

Not using OOC knowledge IC and trying to make a Night's Watch Realm that will fight PvE against the monster hordes to prevent them from going East, which we OOC'ly know they won't do, but IC'ly don't. If we do it well enough the devs have given us the tiniest kindling of hope they could give us something to do instead of just dying against hordes of monsters.

Also: A new place to send your banished nobles to instead of executing them. You read GoT?
