Title: The "Sell your realm" thread.
Post by: Lorgan on January 22, 2015, 12:40:34 AM
I'm wondering if I should join Atamara and if I do, which realm I should join. I have been on Atamara before but mostly in Darka. I spent a little time in Falasan, Minas Ithil, Carelia and really sporadically, Hammarsett. You see my conundrum...
That said, I've heard that Atamara's pretty boring at the moment so I'm looking to contribute to fun somewhere and hoping not to have to do it alone. I don't care if it's in the Empire, or in realms pro or anti or neutral.

The topic says it all: tell my why I, and other AT-hopefuls, should join your realm. What makes it better, different.. What does your char have going on? Or other people? What's your stance in politics. Gold income. Opportunity... The whole nine yards.

P.S.: I'll probably join in about 2 weeks only but I thought I'd get the topic going already, give you all some time to reply too.
P.P.S.: If you're posting here to tell me how much AT sucks, that's not really going to help me or the purpose of this thread.

You shouldn't.

I'm sorry, that wasn't really a fair answer, I suppose. Here's the diplomacy chart for AT. Make your own decision. (Be aware that both Barad Lacirith and Carelia are dead, so they don't count.)

Here, this is better. I cropped out the dead realms, to make it easier to read.

So, what do you do when you're in Atamara now? Duels? Tournaments? RP fests? Wacky storylines? Orgies?

Well the Cagilan Empire kicked out the prime minister a short while back. That was actually a fun time. :3

The only two possible wars I can see breaking out are Tara/ML and Suville/Caergoth. Both have problems that make them unlikely.

Basically, someone is going to have to put on the red shirt and step forward. They'll start a war, but get mauled to death very quickly by all the other bored realms. But if we're lucky, that *might* open an opportunity for some other war to break out. Like... maybe if Talerium said "You Tarans smell funny! We're gonna beat you up!" (Pfft... yeah, right...) then a distracted Tara would open up opportunities for ML to strike, and then maybe Suville could hit Caergoth. But... since that would require an Empire realm to break ranks, it's not gonna happen.

If you want war, then your best bet has gotta be ML, or possibly Reieleston. But I don't foresee that going anywhere any time soon. For the rest of the island, there isn't !@#$ going on.

Well, I've got plenty of war with my current characters. I'm in this for the long run, no war right now doesn't mean no war forever. So yeah, just looking for a place to have some fun.

Looks like I'll be doing it alone after all.

You could always look up Sayuki Kuriga. He's mildly ambitious, and currently cornering the food market in the Cagilan Empire. :3

Sorry, Lorgan, there's just nothing to sell on AT.

Join ML. It has more provinces than nobles, so you'll be able to get landed and start steering trouble quickly.
On the other hand, no one cares about ML on global scale. Maybe try CE and ignite it from the inside. Or get banned by everyone and sail to BT (true story).

As much as I love the player drivenness of BM, I do think that some sort of outside or natural force do need to shake things up. Unfortunately, being islands, there is not really any possible pressure from invading barbarian hordes or neighbouring empire like there was in eastern Europe and the middle east. Beluaterra does have the however-often (I forget how often they occur) monster invasions though, I want to send another Noble over there again eventually.

So that leaves some sort of natural force, and maybe not as something as forced as the glaciers, but a legitimate game mechanic chance of famine breaking out and weakening the old order. Small climate changes have played a large part in the rise and fall of many empires. I'm sure that would be a tonne of work for the developers though :(

Now I kind of want to make a map drawing board idea for a theoretical remake BM with a much larger map that has land borders world heh.

Please come to CE, where you can while away your time betting on how long it takes for a lordship to get filled. Be prepared though, for you  are far more likely to be bored to death by the everlasting preaching of "Peace, Peace forever," or "keep our honor intact by holding onto a federation with another realm that could care less one way or the other".

I'm bored too, but I'm still waiting for a really compelling IC reason to go to war instead of the somewhat tiresome "dude we're all bored can we just go fight?".

You mean the fact that lack of war softens our military and reliance on allies leads to apathy aren't compelling reasons IC? And honestly, people waiting for a reason to come around is how Atamara got into the current situation. Make up your own and convince others.

"Im bored let's fight" is a perfectly valid reason for war.

As are "I want your land" and "I don't like the way you looked at my cow."

Or "Hey, get me away from these badgers!"

Or "Why yes, I'd like to take some cheese."

Hmmm... Badgers. An Atamaran tradition. I will join any realm that uses badgers as a reason to declare war.

Oh man, I'll be playing with an Indirik soon, then!

(Unfortunately, we actually have other reasons people want to war first, so "soon".)

Coming up with a reason for war isn't so hard tbh

In Caergoth I saw apathy coming as well, so we made up a reason for war and started fighting. Task now is actually to keep pushing for aggressive tactics as Suville has blockaded everything with militia and partly mobile. But in all honesty, I'd rather lose everything than sit around and do nothing for so long. It's why I'm so aggressive in Caergoth and also why I split from Sirion in EC.

Most Dukes (especially the rich ones in CE) can easily form their own nation and never be taken with the new citizens militia code as a back-up xD

Ps, badgers, good old days where you couldn't attend a tourney which wasn't overrun by them.

"Suville has blockaded everything with militia and partly mobile. "

Bah! It's easy to complain about someone else stacking militia in rural regions when your own realm is protected by back-to-back townslands loaded to the gills with militia behind level 2 walls and your own and Tara's mobile armies.

Disband your own war-stifling militia before you start bitching about someone else's.

Fair point, we do pretty much the same. It's not so much a complaint, as describing the situation, which makes it why some people call it 'not a real war'. Also was more to point out that you can suicide on militia, rather than sitting still in this case, which is still more fun :-)

Don't suicide. Go round.

And screw access treaties and complaining neighbours.

How exactly would you propose Caergoth to go around Suville? :)

Through Tara and Strombran. ;p. Your ally seems to think they're allowed to march wherever they want without permission.

But yeah, the militia walls on both sides suck.

Through Tara and Stormbran of course.

Hell yeah, that would make it far more awesome (even though Caergoth would be screwed, it would be awesome).
