Now that we've had some more words & names added to potential unique item names, what are some of your favourite, amusing, or apt unique item names that you've spotted?
-
I loved the Obsidian Broadsword of Flame. Owain Bolton made a gift of it to Selenia before she emigrated to EC and it was lost in the crossing :-(
-
Ancient oil of blood.
Which can be returned to Kilhorm on Bel or you can face his terrible wrath. Do not participate in any huge battles, we will find you
-
Definitely the Aegis of Waffles ::)
I have also recently obtained the Screaming Buckler of Antiqualia
-
I am definitely biased in this, but I like the Salivating Shield of Salion's Swollen Tongue.
-
I currently hold an item called "Grim Nose of Atamara" held by my Do'Urden.
-
One of my characters temporarily holds a Hammer of Ecstacy, so... yeah.

Hammer away at me! ;D
-
Aramon had at one point the Rusty Suit of Honesty paired with the Majestic Buckler of Dishonesty, which always got a chuckle out of me. I'm also fond of the Honed Broadsword of Unlife that Aramon lifted off Robb Starfall not long after the death and rebirth of Selenia JeVondair. I almost considered suggesting it had a hand in that.

That's some kinky BDSM you got goin' on there. ;)

Can I do a request for a unique item here?
Abbot Nosferatus, founding father of Madina, one of my characters from my previous family was ' killed' by his bastard son somewhere near Madina.
He was pierced stuck on a cliff by a spear and left for death.
Perhaps a great idea for a unique item on Dwilight, the spear that killed Abbot.
I was planning for my new character Antigone to go on a quest to find the spear.
This is the part of the RP that describes that particular event:
The whole RP can be read here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B-SLKlaUsvaRMtMi5BkZ9wQcJ17qO4leFsGWATRYXi4/edit?usp=sharing
(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B-SLKlaUsvaRMtMi5BkZ9wQcJ17qO4leFsGWATRYXi4/edit?usp=sharing)
Abbot eventually wakes up and notices being moved by horse and cart.
Everything is black and a headache now gradually sets in.
A few minutes later the carriage stops and he feels being thrown out on the ground.
He knows he is close to shore, the smell of the oceans wind and the sounds of dashing waves won’t ever surpass him unnoticed.
After being dragged for a while the cloth is taken from his face and he scans the area.
He is on the edge of a low rocky point stretching out in the ocean and Barabrossa stands right in front of him armed with a strong iron spear.
“Prepare yer self for yer final punishment father! Me self has waited for this moment for years and finally there shall be vengance. The world has never known a monster as horrible as ye! If we can’t kill ye, time shall!â€
And with all the strength in his being he pierces the spear through his father into the rocks, entering his neck and exiting his left leg into the rocky bottom.
“By ‘er mercy will ye suffer as she takes ye bit by bit, wave by wave untill nothing remains of ye, ye will fade with the the hard rocky edge yer now part of. By ‘er mercy may ye suffer for an eternity!â€
And so Barbrossa leaves his father to suffer, giving him one last glance as he walks away.
Abbot remains stuck on that rocky edge until time washes him away.

I'm pretty sure unique item names are put together randomly, based on a whole series of words/names/adjectives and whatnot.
Not sure that we're manually creating unique items.

There is a topic about this here: https://forum.battlemaster.org/index.php/topic,7728.msg158136.html#msg158136
They are random yet often based on various old/significant role plays.
But it is not done through player input directly.
Putting out requests for certain items/item names would be really neat, and enrich the amount of in game refrence with items.
Yet the extra work it could take might not be worth it.
-
I think Vita deals with Unique Items, perhaps he has a better view on this.
-
Wimpie is right, each element of a unique item name is randomly generated (though there are a few influencing factors such as the world you're on, the region you're in et cetera). Probably more than a year ago, I started adding historical character names to the unique item list, to add some potential roleplay depth. Many months ago, I started splitting names to only be used on the continent most associated with that character name; the exceptions are the War Island, Far East Island, and Atamara associated character names, which are available on all islands. Many months ago, I also added and/or split original realms of a continent, and most famous/influential realms of a continent, to be associated with only that continent. I also added code for each living realm to possibly be used in unique item names. Extra descriptive words were also added (weapon names, references to BM religions et cetera).
Nosferatus is also right, there have been manually-created unique items in the past. But only as part of GM roleplay interactions, such as the Zuma creating 3 religious artifacts for SA on Dwilight, or the most recent invasion corrupting the body parts of nobles slain by daimons on BT into disturbing/daimonic unique items.
I'm not inclined to manually create unique items based upon forum requests. Over a year/many months ago, I also increased chance of acquiring a unique item on each island, and having watched battle reports since then, I think each island has plenty of unique items with in-game references between historical character names, regions, original realms, famous realms, and living realms.

That's exactly what inspired me to do the request, but i agree there is more then enough.
The advantage of these kind of requests however, is the presence of an already written background story, which unique items now drastically lack.
Perhaps we don't need a background on the items, and their use alone by noblemen creates a story, but it is usually not documented.
These items have names which only rarely holds value to the players IG.
A request guarantees that it holds value to at least one player, and the available background story will create much more potential for it to have value for others.
Background is important for BM's roleplay environment and is very inspiring for others to add more in different ways.

Why not invent a backstory for the existing items? When you come across an item, express giddiness at discovering the long-lost crown jewels or your realm. Or a dead realm's crown jewels, allowing you to pass as their successor. Or some ancient family heirloom. Or a sacred religious item.
It's much easier, I think, to create backstories for existing items than to create items for backstories.

True, and i did that for a few items, but most of the time it doesn't happen.

Just picked this one up from a dead champion: :D
Shiny Chain Mail of Nudists
-
On Beluterra I really enjoy holding the Morningstar of Rila's Impaled Head (or something along those lines, need to collect it from the advie I gave it to for repair), and I'm waiting to whip out the Staff of Angmar (as Drawulf is the Judge and one of the founding nobles of Angmar!) and the Wicked Nose of the Colonies (as my family is from the Colonies and the family home is located in Outer Tilog in Hilly Holes). I wish I had the time to build up some backstory for them.
-
Arthion Eyolf Serpentis has the best item of all ... the majestic... Mediocre Warhammer.
But... my adv just found the Sturdy Chainmail of Perleone. I need to find someone from Perleone... or someone who won against Perleone.

Could you please describe this item further?

Shiny Chain Mail of Nudists - Type Armour - Condition 91% - Prestige +5
Beluaterra.

...Or someone who lost against Perleone, LOL. Give it to Kinsey!
-
I meant roleplay description of how a chainmail of nudists works :P
-
Maybe its made up of really big ringlets? More like a metallic fishnet bodice than actual chainmail, heh. Take it from me: fishnet garb does nothing to hide your naughty bits.
-
Maybe it's just super soft steel so that you can comfortably go in the nude under it? :P
-
"Steel Without Chafe!"
For the record 'of the Nudists' was added after a nudist portal roleplay in Perleone/Ibladesh, and also in memory of the Gymnistism religion.
-
Does anyone know anything about Rila? Someone who was apparently killed by the Daimons? I possess the "Macabre Morningstar of Rila's Impaled Head" and would like to know more about the character so I can write a description for it.
-
Nabarl family. Of Thalmarkin. Yes, killed by daimons, I forget the details at this time.

Gymnitism is a name I hadn't heard in a while!

Heh.
Huge Battle Fought (1 day, 3 hours ago)
Rumours spread and tales are sung about a huge battle in Candiels:
(rogue) vs. Madina
Estimated strengths: 70 men vs. 1510 men
High Chancellor Namika Quasath is spotted wearing the Flute of Pancakes.
Defender Victory!

I do believe that one has been passed around before.

After 2 hours, you finally find an organized unit of undead.
You fight with zeal and strength - but the undead are unimpressed. They feel neither pain nor fear, but you do. Lots of it.
Then you give up trying to defeat them and you only try to get away - but you find yourself surrounded! After a while, you do not feel the blows anymore. They leave you for dead, but somehow you manage to crawl away before they return. Was there someone who helped you? You can not quite remember. There is very little you remember, except the pain.
You have been seriously wounded.
Your continual performances have finally paid off. Your prestige rises one point.

Unique Item Lost (just in)
As you regain consciousness from your wounding, you realize that you have lost the Sturdy Chain Mail of Perleone!

Almost lost Hrafn... I have no luck with advs.

Something a bit more descriptive like this?
Herbert has a thing of strangeness.
Chainmail-- robust and reliable in battle; yet strangely colourless. One can wear it... yet not, at the same time?

My first Adventurer found a unique item a while back, The Royal Club of Luz de Bia (+5 Prestige). Does anyone know who the character of Luz de Bia was?

It's a realm, not a character. They were on BT, and they died in the Third Invasion because when they were losing the war they started against Riombara, they absolutely refused to accept any peace that didn't amount to Riombara surrendering (for instance, they insisted upon taking several regions from Riombara in any peace treaty), and when the Invasion came, they still wouldn't give up even to fight against the monsters, undead, and daimons.
So the monsters, undead, and daimons wiped them out.

Thank you Anaris. See how little I knew, I thought it was a person, not a realm.

I should pay more attention to the forums... I can tell you lots about Rila, what would you like to know - aside from the fact she was killed by a Daimon (having herself killed one of the Daimons in the previous invasion (I think it was the previous one and not the same one))

Likewise. ;)
A physical description would be nice, given it's her head on the stick.

A female Rakaarox, but younger and with shorter hair... :)

Well, I know where it is now if you want it back. ;D

He's dead now, but I have a noble in Perleone that would like it... and pay for it. But he's just a Knight for now on. Also, nothing would be better than my old Sturdy Chain Mail of the Maiden.... +12 :'(
