Title: Annual Check-In
Post by: Perth on December 03, 2017, 11:20:35 PM
Hello,

Old player peering back in to the community in what seems like my annual "check-in" with BM.

I played the game from about 2007-2013. What's the state of the game these days? It sure was great back in the day.

Oh it is that time of the year? Good to see you again Perth.

Just seems like about once a year now BM pops in my head and I get a nostalgic desire to come back. I think I tried a bout a year ago, but didn't last. I'd like to maybe try again, but was curious about those who are stil around's opinions on the game.

And thanks! You as well, Lap.

Eh it is still the same game with maybe slightly less people. A lot of wars going on at the moment but nothing new. A big war happening on EC. Smaller ones on BT and Dwi. If you are thinking of coming back though I'd suggest checking which realms are at war first. But yeah overall, the game is still the same.

Welcome back :)

Go join each island and random select a realm, then if you dont like playing there, can pause the character.

I don't know. As always, there are more bad realms than good ones.

Unfortunately it's hard to really find the good ones when out of touch with a continent, even the terrible realms often have people preaching for them.

Indeed, I made a character last year on EC in an attempt to kind of get back in, but that didn't last long, I guess.

Open to suggestions for (perhaps the few) good places to go? I'm so out of the loop Atamara and Western Dwilight were still around last time I really played.

Dwilight was always my favorite, though.

There is a war going on on Dwilight.

Astrum vs Swordfell, Sol.

I don't know if you know Crixus but he just got punished and lost all his titles which made other nobles to replace him. Now nobody knows what is going to happen. Western Dwilight has only one realm, Westgard. If you fancy fighting monsters 24/7, that is the best place to go. Otherwise, you can probably choose between Astrum, Sol, and Swordfell. Sol is a puppet created by Swordfell.

Hey Perth.

EC - Huge war, South versus north. Interesting Realms would be Vix Tiramora (democracy) Highmarch (democracy) Sirion (contains the Xavax regugees)

Dwi - Blood Star war over Unterstrom. Swordfell split in two, Leader was removed and now its all up for grabs. Astrum versus Swordfell and Sol (Southern Swordfell) with other realms possible to join in.

BE - War in the north west over Firbolt area. What used to be spearhold and sint. Big RP real in the South, Obia'Syela but there's also the Shattered Vales. Both are RP realms. The Obia is a theocracy based on a belief in Magic. Against Daimons and very much got a dynamic going on which entails Templars versus Inquisitors.

And more of course, stick your nose in and look around.

Hey Perth, I don't know you, I wasn't playing in your times. Not true, I was for like 3-4 days back in 08 or 09 I believe. As you can see:

There is a war going on on Dwilight.

Astrum vs Swordfell, Sol.

OOC bull!@#$ing is still a thing. ;)

If that's BS, then blame those involved for not clarifying, because that exactly the same thing I've been hearing from everyone on the continent.
Title: Re: Annual Check-In
Post by: MTYL on December 04, 2017, 08:29:32 AM
While that would allow you to call it a puppet IC, forums are OOC area and surely I don't have to explain that only those players who have characters in Sol can say if it's a puppet or not. I've never heard any of those players claiming Sol to be anything of the sort. Neither IC nor OOC. In fact, the only person that has anything to say about puppetry (or lack there-of) of Sol stated it's independence numerous times on almost all channels available to them, many of them reaching most of the continent.

The only data some realms get is what our rulers feel like giving us. Remember that tidbit. Regardless of the facts, that's how RP goes. I'm sure we've all had our fair share of headaches from fabricated propaganda - whether conscious or otherwise. That's just how it goes.
Title: Re: Annual Check-In
Post by: MTYL on December 04, 2017, 08:52:02 AM
And I get that that's how it goes IC. I have no issue with that. But bringing it OOC? Isn't one of the most important rules of battlemaster to play it as you would among friends? Would you lie OOC to a friend in order to get in-game advantage? I wouldn't. I don't speak OOC about Astrum because I know that my knowledge is likely incomplete and my view biased.

Maybe I should go there with my char in BT. Gotland promised him lands, but the realms didn't captivate me. And they didn't pay me!

You definitely should! Obia'Syela is very fun for someone who likes RP-oriented way of playing battlemaster. RP-wise it's probably the best realm I've been to.

Huh, your name seems eerily familiar... Like I'm going to head-desk-palm-face once it clicks in mind. When did you last play in Terran, according to your family wiki? Curiously, we have both marshaled the Phantarian Pride. (once upon a time)

Wait. Kale... Perth? Were you the Marshal /General of Terran around 2012/2013?

Can't remember the surname, but I swear that Kale was the name of the guy who first gave me a chance to shine in BattleMaster; way back circa 2011-2012 when a nobody called Alura Aurea became the Phantarian Pride/Terran's vice-marshal, marshal, and then ruler. Thanks to him/you(?), I learned the ropes through Alura and ended up falling in love with this game.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I swear I think I've got the right guy?

That is indeed the same Kale! Kale Perth helped build the old Maroccidens... Melodia, then Terran, and was the Duke who created Phantaria after the Terran republic's collapse/Hireshmont II's theocratic power grab.

I remember you/Alura, indeed! Alura was Kale's right hand for a long time! One his closest allies/supporters.

Terran/Phantaria, good times. Invading it especially, would have been really cool to see how all that drama would have played out had the west not been closed.

I am humbled by your memory. It was an honor to serve, and I sorely apologize for disappearing as I did. Though the real world takes precedent, it seems neither of us could rebuke the siren call of BM and found our way back through the mists of time. ;)

I am extremely glad to have you back! If Masalu wins the election for Qubel in D'hara-DW, or you happen to join BT-Obia'Syela (or EC, once plans proceed a bit), I would be profoundly honored to return the favor. To think, my old mentor as a knight of my banner!

You were a damn fine mentor, alongside JeVondair. The two of you are the reason both my victorious exploits and hilarious defeats were possible.

Welcome home, Kale.

Some of my best times in BM. The old Maroccidens was a great place/community/atmosphere.

Oh, I quit the game not to long after the Phantaria experiment. So no worries! Glad you made it back to BM. I hope my try this time around will stick for a while.

I'm going to stick with just 1 charcter on DWI for a little bit so I can concentrate and get myself back into things. My next character is definitely going to EC/Obia'Syela though. Sounds very interesting from what I've heard!

Definitely will be! I'm pushing to re-establish Xavax, a realm I founded on EC when they unfroze the south back in 2015-16ish. A product of love, long-nights, and tons of intrigue. Don't have too much time on my hands these days, what with working 3 jobs, but what I can spare I spend on BM. Haven't had time to game in over a year, so its nice to get back into things.

You'll love Obia'Syela. Finest group of rp-intensive loons I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. ;)

Edit: I did the same. Started with Sigrid in EC. Week or so later, the half-mute sumerian death-cultist Masalu in D'hara-DW. Last week or so, Yxevarii in Obia'Syela-BT.

Patient and procedural is the best way, lest ye burn out.

Half-mute sumerian death-cultist? How come our chars on DW didn't met? We need a tinder on dwi for twisted bergsonian pseudo-naturalists. ( If sumerian death-cultists weren't deceived by the silly dualistic division on psyche and sarka they would essentially be twisted bergsonian pseudo-naturalists and mythology would still remain coherent under simpler philosophical frame. Pay no mind to "deceived by silly dualistic etc." it was tongue-in-cheek ;) )

...Now, are we crazy enough to actually create this guild? Should I? No point to it, though, I mean... Screw it, why not emulate a medieval fantasy dating service? Its always a pain to find someone you'd actually enjoy marrying/courting in-game. This might make for some... Interesting... Results. Possibly game-changing, what with the politics/interactions of nobles who wouldn't typically have contact with one another.

Or, we could go the sheer hilarity route and have all guild communication be assumed to be anonymous, and it effectively be a place for people to step out of their proverbial armor and be... Whatever. Silly. Crazy. Apolitical. Saucy. What-have-you.

Either way, this actually sounds pretty entertaining.

Agreed. Funny as it is.

Although, if you put a lot of effort into it, you could keep it SMA by making it a very serious service/organization geared toward debuting young and important noblemen/women for marriage prospects? It could involve whole courting processes, dowries, the usual political implications/intrigue, etc.

Turn it into a high-society ritual for the young and upcoming. Charge a wicked fee/gain favors in exchange for helping unmarried nobles meet their match by actually analyzing personality data given by said prospects. Just compile a simple database of said profiles and use the search function to sift through same-similar profiles, or/and whatever said prospect claim to desire.

If said match is sponsored by a "higher" party, we can charge extra to their parents/guardians/leaders/priests/whatever to streamline the process by eliminating undesireables as per their dictation - a sort of compromise between what the prospect wants and what their hosts desire. Typical medieval matchmaking. Maybe a fee to provide a particular number of prospects direct to either bride/groom or said marital tyrants, or an under-the-table fee to completely bypass certain criteria as a compromise more suitable for the bride/groom / hosts.

The options are limitless, and if properly applied, would not violate SMA. All we'd be doing is compiling data, asking a few questions, and presenting prospects to suitors.

Of course, if you want us to actually arbitrate the process rather than just do your homework for you, we charge extra for that too.

Ps, we get dibs on feast/drinks. Marriages make for great networking opportunities. Hello, future clientele! Nice bouquet you caught there... How much is it worth it to make your dreams come true?

It's brilliant. Not sure how this hasn't been done before in this game. Maybe something similar has? Seems particularly perfect for Dwilight, too.

I don't think you'd even have to do so much actual match-making work, so much as pretend you are. The actual matches would be more about status/politics, after all. But if the organization gained enough reputation it could become the way to be presented as a suitor/debutante for anyone who is anyone, at least!

Could be fun, especially for the right characters.

Yes, possibly. Let's see where things go! Kemen is highbrow (or thinks he is) and thinks a lot of himself/his family so it could work.

Auru'in & Perth's Highborn Union Society?

Something like this. Highbrow, exclusive and important sounding. One part social club, one part politicking, one part courting/marriage. Hosting big, fancy, important balls could be a cool way to bring nobles from around the continent together to schmooz.

I'm definitely a match. Can you imagine the army of scribes which Erik would need only for this purpose? I've never bothered to do a PR about his "alcoviteiros" (in English, a procurer/pimp... cannot find a good synonym). Also, Hrafn will offer a Hiero Gamos to Sigrid in some time... I just don't know if she'll accept to be the hunt instead of the huntress  ::)

Hrafn, we can implement this on any continent. Hell, once we flesh it out with proper rules/lore, we can "loan" our "entity" out, like franchises. :)

Gives players a useful tool to both improve relations, excite nobles, and incite intrigue.

Auru'in & Perth's Highborn Union Society?

Just call it Auru'in & Perth's. If it's successful it won't need any name longer than that - people will automatically know what it means.

Just like how the official record of the British House of Commons debates is called Hansard. It had a longer name once but now it's just only referred to by the name of the person who founded it - and everyone knows exactly what it means.

First we need a region... or a realm. And Xavax, from all over, chose Sirion.

We should all just take over Sol, invade it, create our own new realms!

Wait WHAT!? Masalu won the election!? How the hell did my bare-literate nutjjob who talks in 3rd person not only win, but get endorsed by much of the council and a pm of endorsement from the Dragon King himself?

I can't even... Why.

Good point.

He's half literate but he talks a lot - that means people remember him :p

Frankly the talking a lot bit was unexpected. Trick is, I read everything in my thick native accent, follow a semi-strict set of rules on words/grammar he can't use, and it turns into this weird third-person muttering that somehow vaguely makes sense. Since he can't use certain words and grammar, he ends up "saying" more than he otherwise would.
