Title: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 04, 2011, 02:16:14 AM
Hello, I have noticed recently that I still have one slot open for a character, and I figured with the cycling I've gone through with everyone but Garret (he has never missed a turn since his creation in February of 2008), I'd do something slightly different here.

It's time to start a new adventurer, and he/she will be directed by the whims of his/her "gods", aka you guys. Note to Tom/GMs, if there are any objections to this type of playstyle, please let me know so I can promptly stop this. What I intend here is to open up character name and gender, as well as let you guys suggest general personality. From there I will try my best to play according to the archetype that is either most suggested, or in the case where there is not enough interest, whichever comes first/sounds most interesting to me.

So, why an adventurer? Because there is very little opportunity to exploit that character for anything. I'm not saying anyone would, but this way, there's pretty much nothing my character can do to alter anything in whichever realm I'm in.

Why did I choose Colonies? I figured the halved rate of hours would provide more time for people to check on the action and to command the hapless commoner to whatever whims his/her "gods" will.

In-game, in-character, the adventurer will hear voices telling him/her to do stuff. These voices will be the in-game representation of what you suggest here. If you say "Find pretty plenties in Outer Tilog for 16 hours", then he/she will do it. But please suggest something that is actually possible by game mechanics, or something that is possible for adventurers of low level (at least for the start). For example, if I have 0 silver, please don't say "Buy combat gear". Also, suggestions of "Kill yourself" will be promptly ignored as the insinuations of malevolent demons.

Now, without further ado, I open the gates to you guys to tell me the name and gender of this new adventurer. If you want, you can add a general idea of the personality, though if no one wants to do that, I can make one up myself.

Thanks for your involvement, and please enjoy!

I had a lot of fun RPing an adventurer that spoke Hawaiian Pidgin. It gave him a real earthy feel. But alas, the position of adventurer and inability to communicate to the realm is kind of frustrating, In the end the character became a friend of King Moritz in  Asylon, he appears sometimes when I am feeling extra creative.

But given what you have already stated about the character, I think an earthy accent and feel would be quite useful in fleshing out the personality. This tends to work best with male characters, I don't know why.

Name: Amvaroleus
Gender: Male
Personality: Haughty but cowardly, prideful but petty. Specifically, has delusions that the "gods" are the voices of his former "court advisors." Given his grandiose-sounding name, he believes he was once a great emperor, who was cast out of time and space to the Colonies. This is intended to be a comic spin on the classic judge move of deporting people to the Colonies.

On a sidenote, I 100% intend on recommending idiotic and dangerous courses of action, potentially even impossible ones, to your adventurer on a regular basis. The role of malevolent demon sounds appealing to me. I may occasionally suggest possible actions.

I'd suggest making the advie Female to make it more interesting if you're going to attempt some bizarre/impossible/bad/awesome stuff. :D

I'm always in support of crazy experiments.

I'll be following this, sounds great.

To-do list: find 8 portal stones, move to Portion, and open the portal!

When my advy in the colonies found her first portal stone, this was the idea I hatched, but alas, the other 7 remained hidden.

@egamma: I've got no problems going off collecting portal stones, though I admit I have no clue how to find them. Also, I doubt they'd do anything even if I collect 8. Daimon portals most likely don't work like that, and Colonies isn't one where that stuff happens...I think.

So I think I'll start tomorrow evening.

Portal stones are just a standard item you find when collecting. http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Adventurer/Items/Usable (http://wiki.battlemaster.org/wiki/Adventurer/Items/Usable)

Also, I say speak with the other adventurers as much as possible, and ask them to give you portal stones. Promise them that the portal will lead to a world where they are kings.

So there were four replies that indicated anything about the character. As such, I will combine them in a way that hopefully works.

Name: Amvaroleia (Leia because I don't feel like typing that much for the name)

Gender: Female

Personality: Acts stuck up but is actually a coward at heart. Has delusions of varying degrees, and thinks the voices that tell her to do stuff come from beings called "Beamers" (BMers), who are her divine advisors who will guide her when she regains her rightful throne as empress of some celestial kingdom or whatever.

Agenda: Apart from becoming this divine empress, gather 8 portal stones and use them on Portion.

Appearance: Hm...she has red hair I guess?

Ok, now let's get started. The actions I take will be dictated by you. I will generally take the action most suggested, or whichever seems most fitting if the suggestions are relatively similar. If it turns out that there is too much difference in the plotted course of action, then I will either queue the actions based on time of post, or, if that is not possible, pick randomly.

There will likely be a lot of text during this. If you want pictures then I could take some screenshots, but I would prefer to use those sparingly. So finally, let's begin.

New Character
Welcome to the BattleMaster game.

You are starting your career in Warmanoras, in the realm of Oritolon.
Welcome to Oritolon
This is a Republic realm.
The following is the New Members Notice. It contains the base rules of this realm. You should read it carefully.
This is the realm of Oritolon.. a place filled wiht internal plotting and drama.. if you do not like it then leave and join another realm

After reading the flier that flew into her face, Leia stared at the words and threw it behind her. Placing her hands on her hips, she puffed out her meager chest and stared proudly at the horizon.

"Time t'start'is." She said in a strange accent.

Roleplay from Ayden Da Hadez
A stooped and limping man in a rough hessian robe passes you on the road.

He stumbles and as you instictively reach to steady him he slips a parchment into your hand and moves away swiftly.

The letter is brief but informative. It lists a number of taverns, inns and smithies in Oritolon that will act as messengers for General Ayden. It explains that though he cannot be seen to correspond to commoners he recognises the value of adventures and in exchange for information will advise and aid them as much as he can through these 'dead drops'.
Ayden Da Hadez
Minister of War of Oritolon

Leia stared at the paper for a while, staring as she pondered what the divine voices would tell her to do next.

Pick what you would like to do.

Let's search for the first 20 or so hours to actually get some stuff. ;)

Go for the commonest things so we have something to work with.

I wonder whether there is a difference between gathering at 16 hours, as opposed to gathering for 2 hours, resting 2, then alternating this way. From what I've seen, fatigue starts to affect finds at around 15. But since I last played an adventurer seriously in 2008 I am not so sure what would be effective.

I've only played an advie for a little while on Atamara to get to know how advies work. :P

Hopefully some more advie-playing players will comment.

BTW, the Colonies have a 16 hour max queue--which is also what you'll gain in a RL day.

Also, I think it's better to search for about 10 hours, then sleep for 6. This also means you don't have to check in every 2 hours to play.

Action: search for items (balanced)

It would be an interesting experiment actually. I'll test it out with my advie over the course of this week.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 06, 2011, 03:11:10 PM
I think on Colonies the time regen rate is 1 game hour per 2 real hours. That would mean it takes 32 (!!!) hours to get a full time pool, not taking into account resting. I also have poor resting optimization estimates. I know this is a laid-back playthrough and there's no need to try to optimize hours. But I would like to give you guys more actions and less time watching Leia sleep.

Her time pool's at 14 right now, and I think it increases every even hour. That means there are about 4 hours left (or 3 depending on which hour she regens) before I try out different methods of gathering.

Also I have realized that indicating which nobles are in a region might give away information that could be exploited. Even if no one would actually do that, I would like not to take that risk, and so there will only be adventurers listed in regions.

Search for pretty plenties, as suggested, but then also have Leia try to search for pretty plenties IN the Path of Chivalry Temple, thereby possibly disturbing some holy relics.

If there are nobles in the region you should challenge one of them to a duel. I don't know if you actually can do that but you should try.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 06, 2011, 06:17:11 PM
@Igelfield: Commoners can't duel nobles.

Now that we have 16 hours, it's time to see how well 10 h gather + 6 h rest works.

You wander around the rural and...
1st hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
2nd hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
3rd hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
4th hour: You find nothing.
5th hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
6th hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
7th hour: You find nothing of value.
8th hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
9th hour: You are disturbed by peasants and militia and can not gather anything.
10th hour: You have found some bee's wax.

After ten hours of being disturbed by annoying people, all Leia had to show was a lump of bee's wax. She kicked the grass in annoyance. Those stupid peasants and soldiers kept chasing her off while she tried to check for items in shop barrels. Those pesky guards at the temple even turned her away because she didn't have 5 gold.

"Aw t'ell w'this." Yawned Leia as she promptly went to sleep on the floor.

Irdalni as well.

But only on the road. No faster travel. And Leia should collect twigs along the way and stick them in her hair.

While travelling, Leia should meet another advie who's choosing to stay (or move, whichever you'd like), and then she should violently attack him just to find that he, like her, found nothing of worth in the city. :P  She's supposed to be crazy, no?
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

She should use the beeswax as a hair product while traveling to Irdalni, trying to find another adventurer to protect her from the Zimbats. What is a Zimbat? Who knows. But one of the Beamers keeps warning her to...

BEWARE THE ZIMBATS!
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 08, 2011, 02:20:15 AM
Would you believe that there are no nearby adventurers? There are only useless nobles who can't have portal stones anyway.

After stomping through grass that quickly became very boring to Leia after the third hour she spent walking through monotonous fields of green grass, Leia decided to take a piece of her bee's wax and rub it into her hair. The russet strands were already messy from snooping around various dumps for items, and the wax only made it clump in a mass of dirty red.

"Di'should protec'me from zimbats." Said Leia proudly, as she threw the stiff mess of hair behind her shoulder.  "Beats me wha'a zimbat's, bu'm'advisors speak t'me." She suddenly snapped her head around as though someone were talking to her. A moment later she began waving around her wax trying to attract the attention of other adventurers.

"C'mere ad'turers! I got good beeswax t'trade for portal stones!" Yet at most she managed to get a cow to moo skeptically at her. The rest of the twelve hour walk was rather uneventful, but Leia was glad that no zimbats crossed her path. Gripping her twig tightly, Leia was prepared to fight at all times.

At last, green grass gave way to sandy ground, and palm trees appeared out of nowhere. But once she got to the sand, Leia fell down and stopped walking, clearly unable to go any further.

We have some letters!

Letter from Ash Ketchum
Young Amvaroleia,

Welcome to Oritolon. Should you have question, do please ask around.

Ash Ketchum
Minister of Justice of Oritolon, Ambassador of Oritolon

Ash...Ketchum...I think I've heard that name from somewhere...

:o No way...Poor Ash must've gotten lost while time-traveling with Celebi. Next message!

Letter from Jepel
Amvaroleia,
I am currently hunting monsters around here. I send this message as an invitation to join my hunts. Please respond as soon as you able as I plan my third hunt tomorrow around 5 am. (OOC:-8 GM timezone).

Jepel (Outlaw)

How shall we respond to this fellow adventurer?

This man is offering to lead you on the path to treasure hording monsters, obviously he is one of your servants.

(I can't resist this, after all the ideas Garret put into Keichus' head)
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

Indeed, that adventurer is obviously the High Commander of the Seventh Anti-Zimbat Legion.

Monsters and undead are not Zimbats, but they are protecting the Ancient Zimbat Evil.

Leia should commend the other adventurer (the High Commander) on his loyalty to the Free Imperium, offer him some Holy Beeswax, demand his fealty, and then assist in the hunt ASAP.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 08, 2011, 06:37:51 PM
And so Leia responds.

After reading the letters, Leia proceeded to write a response. Thankfully her writing was a lot clearer than her speech:

High Commander of the Seventh Anti-Zimbat Legion,

I admire your courage in fighting the guard dogs who protect the Ancient Zimbat Evil. Perhaps you may find some assistance in the form of my Holy Beeswax? I shall impart to you one Lump of Wax for a Portal Stone. And now to show my dedication to this cause, I shall assist you in the hunt. But I am dead tired, so if I cannot continue after a short while you know the reason.

For the sanctity of freedom from fear of the Evil Zimbat!

Leia, Exiled Former Empress of the Celestial Kingdom of Yoruanletozaf

And afterwards she decided to hunt down those monsters, charging in with a furious "Aiyiyiyiyiyiyi!" (Xena style)

After searching the area for 2 hours, following trails and noises, you finally encounter a small group of monsters.
The battle rages, you against the monsters. Your blows land true and you strike most of them down, while a few manage to flee.
In the lair of the monsters, you find valuables and treasures worth a total of 4 silver.

With a triumphant thrust of her stick into a monster's eye socket, Leia gave the information for the next group to the High Commander Jepel.

====================

Now that Leia has 6 silver, she can buy combat gear. It's really cheap here at 4 silver right now. This is a steal. Shall we buy?
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: egamma on March 08, 2011, 08:30:25 PM
Leia can't properly defend herself against zimbats with only her stick, so she should buy combat gear.

(Also, I used to play an advy in the colonies. You get 16 hours a day, and can have a max of 16 in your time pool.)
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

16 a day? Whoa?
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 08, 2011, 11:49:11 PM
I should note that the reason Leia was so brave this time was because all Commanders and above of the Anti-Zimbat Legion provide a bonus to courage. So driven in her zeal, Leia ignored her fears and fought monsters with a stick. Don't expect the same results otherwise.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: egamma on March 09, 2011, 06:50:36 AM
16 a day? Whoa?

...right? On the other continents, priests/advies get 24 hours in 24, and in the colonies, 16 in 24. I played an advy myself, and she's now a priestess, and I can confirm that she's getting about 12 hours at 44 years of age.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: Foundation on March 09, 2011, 11:33:31 AM
Interesting, I would've assumed they just get 12 hours a day, one every two hours. :)

Is Leia rested yet?  She should try looking and see if there are still lots of militia/peasants disturbing her.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 09, 2011, 12:28:42 PM
Leia appears to get twelve (12) hours a day. She regens every even hour.

She also has 24 fatigue now because she failed against group 5. Apparently the low quality underwear she bought to raise her combat gear to 6% wasn't enough.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: Vellos on March 09, 2011, 08:38:40 PM
Low quality underwear?

She bought herself some panties?

Leia now refers to weapons and armor as "panties."
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 09, 2011, 08:42:20 PM
Well, before the 5% was contributed by the stick. The extra 1% came from cloth underwear. Let's not think too hard on it. Also, we're down to 1 silver now. 10 hours, 24 fatigue. From the wiki table, it seems like sleeping on the floor would still leave about 3 fatigue with 16 hours sleep. She can't afford better, has no bedroll/tents, and can't afford other resting options. So sleeping on the floor is the best we have.

They WILL crawl into her hair: they are Zimbat minions trying to steal the Sacred Imperial Beeswax.

Update: Leia is fully rested and ready to go! Also at 2 hours she found a sage.

You have encountered a sage, a wise man, rumoured by many to have magical powers. He and his kind are the only people capable of repairing and sometimes even improving unique items.

Since you do not have any damaged unique items, the sage can not offer you any repairs.

And so Leia and the sage shook their heads at each other and went their separate ways.

Oh yeah, and monsters started appearing.

Monsters!
Monsters have been seen in the region of Irdalni.
The local population is requesting help and fears that the monsters will eat their food and destroy their houses.

So there are monsters around, and Leia has no silver. What to do?

Leia checks out the situation.

The local lord here has posted a bounty of 36 silver for the elimination of undead.
You investigate the monster situation in Irdalni. You hear of no monster activity.

Well, and of course then there is the monster group of 11 beasts that's running around eating everything and everyone, but as an organized monster group they are beyond your abilities - the militia or knights will have to deal with them.
What you can do to help is check them out. (takes another 2 hours)

Then you turn to look for undead. You hear rumours about undead and a few who claim to have seen them from afar.

Still want to hunt for undead?

After 9 hours, 3 of which were spent running around looking for undead, Leia finally found some.

Looking down at the rotting corpses in more than one way, Leia tried to run but she was surrounded. With no other recourse but to fight, she swung blindly with her stick, hoping none of the undead would tear up her new cloth underwear. It took six hours before she was finally finished, and though there seemed to be more waiting, there was an opening. She stuck her tongue out at some of the walking corpses and ran away quickly.

Leia now has 1 gold 6 silver. How shall we spend it?

Time: 3 hours

Neighbouring Regions
travel to...

    * Abaka (Minas Thalion)
good road, 150 miles, ca. 7 hours
    * Alowca (Oritolon)
bad road, 118 miles, ca. 8 hours
          o take a coach (2 gold, 1 silver, 6 hours)
    * Grentzen (Oritolon)
good road, 223 miles, ca. 11 hours
    * Warmanoras (Oritolon)
bad road, 190 miles, ca. 14 hours

We have 7 hours right now, about to be 8 by the next even hour. Leia has 1 gold 6 silver on hand. She can find a bedroll or a tent in a rural I believe, but I'm not sure if searching for pretty plenties or balanced and boring would give a better chance of finding them. Surely those can't be rare and risky, can they?
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: egamma on March 12, 2011, 05:54:56 AM
"pretty plenties" would have the best chance of finding a bedroll.

Still, I think that maybe finding another adventurer to mooch off of might be a better use of her time. I say Grentzen.

Leia's now in Grentzen. 0 hours, 0 fatigue, 11 silver.

So while we wait, she now has 7% combat gear. That means she has on cloth panties and leather boots. To illustrate the point, have a picture:

Warning: Possibly NSFW? It's kinda cartoonish and not meant to be distasteful but a funny rendition of our hapless adventurer. http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/3479/leiacolorsmall.jpg (http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/3479/leiacolorsmall.jpg)

Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 13, 2011, 11:30:49 PM
Yes, I drew that, but by hand. Colored via Photoshop, which explains some roughness. Still not that realistic, but then again, my drawing style was never for "realistic drawings" anyway.

Leia will get clothes as she improves her combat gear. By 10% she should have cloth: panties, boots, undershirt, trouser/shorts hybrids (Think Elena's...capris? from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune), shirt. Notice they're in increments of 1% to 10% from 5%. This was not planned, but it somehow worked out. Yay.

Ok, update: DST activated in the US. That means for me, Leia regens hours every odd hour now.

She has 11 silver, and adventuring gear is 5 silver here. Should we buy her a piece of map and a piece of compass needle to bring her to 7%?

Also, at two hours:
You have encountered a sage, a wise man, rumoured by many to have magical powers. He and his kind are the only people capable of repairing and sometimes even improving unique items.
He also offers you to make an item for you, a very rare opportunity indeed. He will need special ingredients for this, and he can only help you if you bring these:
Piece of Amber
Ancient Crown
You do not have all of these, so he shakes his head and tells you there is nothing he can do. Maybe if you could acquire them, within the hour?
He also indicates that at this time, considering the season, the stars and some other mystic things that you don't quite understand, the chance of successfully creating a unique item is unusually good.

And we have neither of those two... Oh well.

The lord of this region has posted a bounty of 120 silver for the slaying of monsters.
The local lord here has posted a bounty of 120 silver for the elimination of undead.

You investigate the monster situation in Grentzen. You hear many rumours about monsters and encounter several witnesses who have seen them with their own eyes.

Then you turn to look for undead. You hear rumours about undead and a few who claim to have seen them from afar.

I don't know about Leia, but this Beamer is looking at some major money to be made.

After searching the area for 2 hours, following trails and noises, you finally encounter a large group of monsters.
You notice that they have a leader, an alpha monster, a really big and ugly one, whatever you want to call it.
The battle rages, you against the monsters. Your blows land true and you strike most of them down, while a few manage to flee.
The big one is the last to fall, but after an exhausting fight you manage to take him down, too.
In the lair of the big one, you find treasures worth a total of 2 gold, 3 silver.
You also find a unique item among the loot, the "Daemonic Jacket of the Kings".

 :o Woooaaahhh....Score.

Nah, you draw one with her wearing it.

By the way... 10 gold?  Are you kidding?  A worn down unique item at 40% condition with +1 prestige in a poor realm is worth more than that... :P  Demand at least 50 gold, if not 200+, I mean it's a +2 at perfect condition.

No harm in trying to haggle thought. 50 gold is, after all, a penance to any noble and could go a long way in Leia's fight against the evil Zimbats.

Though that is true in theory, any noble who wants a Unique Item will normally offer/give a recommendation if he/she wants return service, i.e. repairs. ;)

Thus, Beamer Foundation says haggle until you get a decent price. ;)

Note to all the Beamers: This LP ends when:

1. Leia dies.

2. Leia becomes a noble.

3. Leia collects 8 portal stones or however many, and opens them somewhere.

That said, here's a pic. Recall that Leia still doesn't have a shirt...So bear that in mind when clicking the link. No actual nudity though.

So if I ever do anything like this again, I'll do it somewhere other than Colonies. Man, what was I thinking doing it on Colonies...

Anyway, Leia's got more stuff now.

Inventory

Common Items

Adventure Gear (10x)
Battered Armour
Bear Hide
Combat Gear (11x)
Junk
Lump of Wax

So there's the gear, and in addition to the holy beeswax, Leia has some...junk, and bear hide. I guess the bear hide can be wrapped around her armor and stuff, but the junk? What is the nature of this junk anyway?
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

Junk should be discarded--it's a distraction placed in Leia's path by her enemies.

That would require having a rank that allows debt, or getting some serious grants. Neither is very likely at low levels of membership. Mind you any guild that does have this problem deserves to be rob by a commoner.

Focus, Beamers.

Leia's been doing some rummaging and is now ready to go to a frat house party with 4 kegs of beer. Or rather, she would be training her keg standing beer funneling skills if frat houses existed in this universe. Oh, I think I'm breaking the fourth wall here. Oh well.

Inventory

Common Items

Adventure Gear (10x)
Battered Armour
Bear Hide
Combat Gear (11x)
Junk
Lump of Wax
Thief's Hand

Useable Items

Keg of Beer (4x)

And her stats:

Physical Age:   20 years
Main Class:   Adventurer
Honour:   1
Prestige:   1
Gold:   34
Silver:   8
Status:   ok
Time Pool:   2
Fatigue:   14
You are currently in Oritolon.

Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on March 30, 2011, 07:37:32 PM
Hunting undead didn't do much except give some silver from the bounty. I guess it may be a while before Leia has the adventuring skill to fight the powerful ones.

In other news, Leia's inventory is getting larger, though where she stores it all is a mystery.

Inventory

Common Items

*Adventure Gear (11x)
*Battered Armour
*Bear Hide
*Combat Gear (11x)
*Junk
*Lump of Wax
*Thief's Hand (2x)
*Wootz

Useable Items

*Bandages and Alcohol
*Keg of Beer (4x)

Now she has two thief hands, so in case hers get removed, she has an extra pair. Joyous!

I think we need some excitement (Hard to achieve on Colonies with a 1:2 game:real hour regen rate).

From now on, if you choose to have her hunt, Leia will hunt max aggro possible, and will try to find those regions that have lots of undead/monsters. Of course, this may lead to more wounds, in which case there will be a lot more waiting involved.

How is the pace though? I think this is rather slow, as the updates have become pretty much cold tar. I'm not sure how much playing on a 1:1 regen island would help though.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

Leia should make sure to sleep on that cozy bear hide at night. Also, regaining one's lost empire is more fun with companions, is there anyone in the area to strike up a conversation with?

On a side note, it would be interesting to see more of Leia's journey drawn out (as in, art)! I have always thought that the often amusing interactions between BM advies and their strange lives were best suited to the visual format :]
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: songqu88@gmail.com on April 01, 2011, 11:53:05 AM
There are advies who don't say much except send links to monster/undead groups.  :-\

As for drawing out stuff, I would make a 4koma of this, and it'd be great practice. But, as is kind of apparent, I am not an actual artist, have no formal training, probably won't take any, and the drawings aren't exactly quality stuff. I'm not sure whether anyone would want to look at them, but I'll give it a shot after I'm done with my second round of exams next week.

Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!

And adventurers in the colonies have even fewer hours than normal. I think sages may stick around longer, and of course it's easier to take on monster/undead hordes, but there are very few advantages to playing an adventurer in the colonies.

It's not that exciting elsewhere, either, I think quite a few people do it to get free sword training for an infiltrator.
Title: Re: Let's Play the Colonial Adventurer!
Post by: Hyral on April 05, 2011, 04:48:16 AM
In my experience, adventurers are more interesting when there are other adventurers around to interact with. Trade fairs, gossip about nobles who arrest and advies who break deals, community item pools, cooperative hunting, roleplay in general. It might take some doing to find that first person willing to talk to you, but once you start chatting over the vicinity channel it tends to draw other people in.

There aren't many adventurers around, and the few that are here at most tell me where the next group is. Usually by the time I have the hours for them, the group expired.

Also, no one has ever answered me when Leia inquired about portal stones. Even if they're pointless, getting eight of them will achieve one of Leia's goals. I wonder why no one wants to tell me if they have any...They don't even say "No.", or "What do you want with them? They're vessels of pure eeevil!"

Adventurers can't emigrate.

But, I do have an adventurer on AT now that you mention it. Her name's Patchouli, she's spicy more so than sweet, not very nice, and is part of CE. Of course, she might not see much action since right now the focus is on Kylen/Ramuh/Iksandros, and the oddly long-lived Garret.

Er, but Patchy isn't too interested in portal stones, so...eh? Keep it I guess, though I don't think they actually do anything.

My adventurer has done the portal stone thing.  Back when all it took was 7.  Was kinda cool but a big letdown after the fireworks were done.  Never trust nobles to follow through...  That adventurer has two more of the stones now.  just not in the colonies....too bad too.

What happened with those portal stones? Since this is Colonies, I'm prepared to see...nothing special happen. But hey, it'll fulfill one of Leia's goals.

And update: Leia's not dead, and I haven't forgotten about her or this LP.

She's been trying to gather and hunt, to little success. The comic is also going to go very slowly because for the rest of this month and until May 18, I will be busy with the last of my exams, and I will have preparations to make for my college graduation.

Leia's in Portion now. But no stones.

Inventory:

Common Items

Adventure Gear (22x)
Battered Armour
Bear Hide
Combat Gear (16x)
Empty Keg (3x)
Hardened Leather
Junk
Lump of Wax
Quartz
Thief's Hand (2x)
Wolf's Hide
Wootz

Useable Items

Bandages and Alcohol
Keg of Beer

As you can see, Leia's been drinking a bit, an has already emptied three kegs. Things are blurry for her right now. However, she does have lots more gear now, and finally is fully clothed!

Now that she's in the big city, supposedly filled with barbarians of Lukon, what shall she do? From experience, she seems to be capable of occasionally skipping group 1 now. But the last investigation in Portion said "some rumors" for both monsters and undead.

In case anyone actually wondered, yes, I was in fact drawing a comic. It's in yonkoma format because I like the style, in a similar fashion to Lucky Star and Working. You will see two columns with 4 panels in each column on a page. Read from the top panel to the bottom panel, starting with the right column first. Within each panel, read text from right to left, top to bottom. After reading to the bottom of the right column, move on to the left column.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonkoma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonkoma) In case anyone wanted Wikipedia's article.

This "comic" has bad art, yeah, I know, whatever. It also loosely follows the plot of this LP, and should not be taken as accurate reflections of in-game stuff. I think there are anachronisms in later pages. Updates will be about a page a week because I'm not a professional and I'm not exactly fast at drawing these. (Well, not quite, I'm just juggling applications for jobs and schools, and working on a separate more serious webcomic project). Images should be safe for work because I made Leia a barbie doll. There will be strategically placed censor bars when appropriate, but any nudity, actual or implied, is not meant to be distasteful but artistic, as !@#$ty as the art may be.

Anyway, last introductions: Since I consider this my fooling around drawing project, I'm not really concerned about how this is received. If you would like to offer constructive criticism, because, hey, gag comics deserve quality too, then go for it. If you want to flame, then enjoy yourself.

No, I haven't forgotten that there are zimbats in this universe.

At last...she gains some clothes.

shouldn't the one where she gets the clothes be on the left? I felt like I was reading them out of order.

"It's in yonkoma format because I like the style, in a similar fashion to Lucky Star and Working. You will see two columns with 4 panels in each column on a page. Read from the top panel to the bottom panel, starting with the right column first. Within each panel, read text from right to left, top to bottom. After reading to the bottom of the right column, move on to the left column."

Gah, I just want to be done with this already.

Read from right to left, and up to down. That means start with the right column of four panels and read text from top to bottom, right to left. Basically, the opposite of western comics.

And Leia loses her clothes just as quickly. Thankfully there's a clothing store nearby.

And so she tries on various outfits.

Leia sneaks around, and we now know how she actually gathered all her kegs of beer.

Shes...dead? But what about our grand scheme to take over the Colonies and put the portal stones together?

It appeared that interest was waning among the players here. So I figured we might as well cancel her like a failing series.

Just so you know, a lack of replies can be misleading.

Yes--we were all waiting for you to say "okay, done with school, let's roll with Leia!"

Even less time from now on as I will be off to dedicate my life in the study of medicine in a few weeks.

Anyone know if pausing a character removes them from all guilds?  I paused my adventurer and may have screwed up one heck of a story and opportunity in the process...

I've paused characters and did not lose any guilds, but never an advy...

The mythic, little known member of the dev team comes to the fore. What does he have to say? We should all listen, for this is a rare opportunity...

I'm joking. Nice to see you post. I'm not sure if advies lose guilds, I try not to play them.

Seeing this thread, arouse my curiosity and interest to make an adventurer that "controlled" and "play dictated" by all forum people here. Maybe I consider doing same thing since it is not "illegal"  :D

I never paused an advy before either. Maybe someone who keep testing and experiment on this, can help out, such as developer?  ;)

I have learned from this that timing of hours to getting responses is somewhat hard. Sometimes you are waiting with 16/0 time/fatigue for people to say something. Sometimes there are about 4 people saying 4 different things and you just got messed up by an alpha monster. In the end, you (me, in this case) can't make everyone happy, and in fact, you probably can't even make anyone happy.

Probably easier to run it with a non-Advy, yeah.

..so, it's too late to ask you to lick the next noble you see?

Considering the character doesn't even exist anymore, yeah.
