Development / Re: Make the Colonies a testing island?

Seriously?
With many Colonies players too busy with RL that we chose single turn game? How would making it unstable not reduce its number of players?

the Duke of Alowca should switch allegiance to [Minas Thalion]

Never gonna happen

Quote[Duke Pyran]'d been making noises about secession due to the poor war effort after all, but alas, he's stonewall Oritolonian.

And the ruling family of Warmanoras has now become a die-hard MT hater since MT's ill-considered raid to the region, not to mention the fact that Ori's PM has an estate in Warmanoras. MT will get a brutal taste of Ori's long standing tradition of political struggle if Alowca joins them. ;D That will be interesting for Ori & MT players, but doesn't really change things for other realms.

Basically, Colonies is like the ultimate test of character. If you can succeed there, you can succeed anywhere.

Heh,

My brain is so fried thinking about Alexander's problems that my other characters are pretty much hanging around paring their nails with a monster's claw.

I would prefer that people stop throwing the word active around. It always makes my IR sense tingle.

Shall we use participate? That's definitely a problem.

I think this sparks an interesting idea on the problem of realms stagnating.

I agree with the spirit, and disagree completely with the methods presented.
Same here,

Personally, I feel that most experienced BM-ers are more worried about attracting a specific kind of players rather than retaining such players or maximizing different types of players for our mutual enjoyment.

Example: A group of players may prefer to develop their regions, little desire for war. Another may prefer the war aspect of the game. It is reasonable for type A players to try and attract type B players to join their realm when war is unavoidable, but we all know how most players (myself included) feel about 'mercenaries', don't we?

It may help if we will consider utilizing all players. Insisting only on multi-dimensional players will limit our experience.

I wouldn't find it as bad if travel times weren't so absurdly long! Feels like you not only get half the hours and turns per day, but travel times are also twice as long as most continents, meaning it takes quadruple the time to get anywhere that it would take on another continent.
Adapt! Instead of going anywhere, stay home and plot against everybody else! ;D It's a pity my character is too much of a paladin-wannabee to follow my own advice  :-X

Hmm? What region are you lord of?
Oh, right.
Warmanoras, Oritolon at the Colonies. The banker did  some checking some time ago, seems the same for all Oritolon regions.

Another question:

How do I send food to distant/non-neighboring regions? There's a send caravan option but no destination can be selected?

Development / Re: Feature Cut: Buying Regions

If I had known that the feature existed, I would probably play the game in different manner.
Is everybody sure that players are under-utilizing this feature instead of simply not knowing that it exists?

I'm not sure what you wish to gain here.... once you have your three recommendations, you can declare yourself noble and then pick up an estate.

Partly for this reason:

... he had RP interaction with an advy that made him trust him, and he wants to give him a recommendation.

It was in a stable island though, so I don't see it happening any time soon without a whole lot of micro-managing to reflect the RP (e.g. manually paying his share every tax day, etc.)

Basically, right now you need to be there to pick up an estate.

For the future, I plan to add in ways like meeting with a lord, etc. - especially for tournaments. However, these are a bit more difficult to code, so don't expect them in the very near future.

Understood.

A question, though: Would it be difficult to allow freemen to claim an estate?
Normal rules: 3 recommendations, acceptance by the region lord to be considered the 3rd; as well as the 1 recommendation per noble rule, cannot claim an estate from a region lord who has already given his/her recommendation.

Courtier/infils are those who lurk in their regions to maintain stats, and then proclaim, when an enemy arrives and loots, that they "must die!" for daring to bring light to their lair.

They get really pissed if you undo with a mere 6 hours what it took them weeks to accomplish. They take their work very seriously. ;)

Aye! That was the reason my courtier became an infil :D

I love the colonies.

Yes, it's slow but that just makes it a bit more realistic IMHO*

There are two types of characters/players in the colonies..
1) The patient, intelligent and reserved who play the game like a 18th century game of chess by mail between kings.
2) The reprobates, troublemakers, assasins, rebels, misfits, duellists and schemers sent to the colonies as punishment.

This demographic often leads to trouble and fun.

* there is no such thing as an HO.

Indeed,
Where else can you spend a 20+ hours polishing your latest dastardly scheme before springing in upon the others. Of course, most of my realm mates would figure out what I was after fairly quickly and put their own poison into the mix. Glorious fun!

Courtier cavaliers are the silliest thing ever. Cavaliers belong on the battlefield with huge cavalry units, not pushing papers behind a desk! Have you no dignity, sir?
Honor demands that I do the best for the realm. If it means pushing papers instead of bullies, I will throw any shred of dignity to the jakes.  :) That's one alternative RP

Courtier/Infiltrator? Role-playing nobles who care enough about occupied region and work on calming the populace, etc. Or cynically cementing loyalty to the realm, making it harder for the enemy maintain their grip or even lengthening time needed to TO. Not sure about the mechanics, but it makes RP sense.
