The game is making rapid progress and is nearing a playable release. I expect to release a first demo version within the next days.

Here are some updates on the single-player re-launch:

Since most of the core game-design is done, actual implementation work is making progress quickly. At the moment, I have the day/night cycle and changing weather and seasons working, as well as basic UI, camera controls and building construction. I've started working on monsters and I need to add more buildings before it is anywhere near playable (at the moment I have a hut, a wooden house, a fence, palisade, watchtower and chicken pens).

So right now I would call it a "tech demo" or something.

I plan to bring it a bit closer to at least basic gameplay, so that it could be called a teaser or early gameplay demo, and then update the Steam channels so you all can have a look. So stay tuned.

Announcements / Happy New Year and Happy Birthday BattleMaster !
« on: January 01, 2021, 01:40:38 PM »
Today marks 20 years since BattleMaster was launched.

When I launched the game I had no idea it would be such a long journey and reach so many people. Some of you may know that BM was originally a simple strategy add-on to another game, SpellMaster, which it has long since outlived.
For me, it has been close to half of my life. Almost everything in my life has changed over this time, and for a long time BM had remained one of the few constants. Some of the old-timers here are among my oldest friends and acquaintances, as too many of my real-life friends disappeared when I moved to another country.
BM was always a side-project, but it taught me much and had an impact on my professional life several times as I could transfer skills I had learnt there. And it is not just the coding, it has always been at least as much if not more about the community, about moderating conflicts both in-game and on the meta level, in finding compromises between the desires of different player groups and play styles, about understanding how the game is experienced for different types of players and of developing a consistent vision without getting side-tracked by pet peeves and seemingly cool ideas.
I haven't always managed that perfectly, none of it. There are bugs in the code, not every GM or moderator decision was perfect, some features of the game clearly seemed better when I added them than they turned out to actually be. But the longevity of the game clearly proves that more things were done right than wrong.

As you can guess from the tone of this posting, it's time for me to say goodbye. I have already had almost no connection for the game for many years now. It was still running on my server and I was once or twice a year involved in resolving some dispute or solving some issue. And I was simply not ready to walk away for good, for emotional reasons. I am deeply grateful to the volunteers who helped out with the game over the years, and especially Danaris and Vita who carried it for the past years.

BattleMaster has been a large part of my early adult life, and I know that for some of its players it was important beyond the game itself. At least one marriage is the result of two people meeting in the game, and I know of several people who kept connected to their family members through the game. It makes me happy and proud that I created something that had a positive influence on peoples' lives.

I am off to new shores. My newest work-in-progress is called Dragon Eye and can be found here: https://notveryprofessional.com/dragoneye/
But I will always have a soft spot in my heart for this game and all of you. And I hope you don't mind an old man coming by from time to time, to paraphrase a movie.

Dragon's Eye / Lockdown Edition
« on: November 16, 2020, 09:43:48 AM »
As we are entering the second lockdown, I have decided to release a version of Dragon Eye for free to download and play.
The game has been playtested for over a year, but it is still not entirely finished. That is the downside of this free edition, that a few edge cases in the rules are not complete and a final proof-reading has yet to be done and the entire thing is still a work in progress. Oh yes, and no artwork has been included so far, so there’s that.
However, you get a full game system to carry you and your friends through the lockdown.
The game system consists of four parts. The Core Rules book, the Magic Rules book, the character sheet and the online encyclopedia of the game world.

And if you want to support the game in any way, you can do so either by sending me feedback about the rules, which would be most appreciated, or by following the link to Patreon on the website above.

Dragon's Eye / Re: Looking for Friendly Tester Groups
« on: September 06, 2020, 11:37:08 AM »
I'm sorry for not keeping up to date in this forum.
If you still want to play - or anyone else wants to try it out - the game has made huge advances and my local group has been playing it for a year now. Shoot me an e-mail to tom@lemuria.org and I'll provide you with download links for the rules.
The only thing I ask for in return is feedback.

Dragon's Eye / Looking for Friendly Tester Groups
« on: February 15, 2020, 10:00:39 AM »
Hey all,

I'm working on a new fantasy roleplaying game. A pen&paper or tabletop RPG. The rule system has progressed to the point where the game is playable and can be run by a GM who is not me. However, it is still incomplete and a few things (some classes, many spells, etc.) are still missing.
That said, I am looking for a few people who have a regular gaming group that would be up for a new system and would be willing to playtest it and give feedback on what works and what doesn't, which parts of the rules they had to read twice to understand and which parts were still unclear even after that, and what everyone in the group thought about the different game mechanics and so on.

My ideal playtesters are a regular group that has some experience in different game systems, is eager to try something new and ready to learn new rules and different approaches to things (my magic system is unlike most of the ones you are familiar with, for example, and my combat system is unlike anything that I've personally played so far).Very important is also that you are willing to give detailed feedback, not just "oh, it played well". I mean detailed. Good and bad points.
Also important to me is that you don't approach this as a one-shot. It doesn't have to replace your regular game, but you should be ready to play at least a few sessions or one campaign, so that you can also give feedback on levelling up and character progress and how play goes at higher levels, because it changes in style as characters grow (you start just above commoners, but it goes all the way up to epic heroes).

The rules are ca. 150 pages at this time, in english. There's a four-page character sheet (2 pages main sheet, 1 page magic, 1 page character background and history) as well.

I will send you the PDFs and you can share them with your players but please not beyond that as the game is still incomplete and I don't want an unfinished version floating around.

As I don't read the forum constantly, contact me at tom@lemuria.org if you are interested and give me a few details about yourself and your group.

Dragon's Eye / Introduction and Overview
« on: February 15, 2020, 09:50:49 AM »
Dragon's Eye is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game. You know, the thing with paper and dice.
It is currently under development and in playtesting.
The second part of the game is an extensive and detailed game world. You can find the current game world background here:
https://notveryprofessional.com/dragoneye/

There is also Patreon page to support the development process:
