I hear your name come out, clearly you are popular :P

I have been thinking how to spice things up.

If we wish for wars, we can have evenly, or similar size realms fight each other one to one. Make them promise their ESA or SA realms allies that this is limited war. Or if that realm too big size and we can have 2 realms of similar size to balance the scale of war, by all right do so. But spell clearly to other realms so that noone allies or religious ones come rushing to unbalance the war.

This could be note to all realms Rulers. Sorry I not Ruler at this time so can't do much.

Sometimes I think the concern with having an absolutely perfect limited with no risk for either side war, is partly what's encouraging this stagnation in the first place.  If more people were willing to take risks and start conflicts wherever they can, rather than sit around waiting for someone to artificially craft the perfect war in which they have no risk of losing a region (and more often than not than getting so bored waiting they just end up jumping into the nearest risk-free gangbang), then things would be much more fun.

With religious tension at an all time high in the North, one would hope some kind of war is on the horizon. Also considering Astrum is the only theocracy left with any strengh, it's hard to see it devolving to a one sided massacre unless Arnor interfere. Astrum and Swordfell vs. Westfold,  Luria Borealis and maybe Helyg Derwyddon could be fun, although I'll admit I don't know enough about the internal situation in Astrum to know whether that's likely at all.

Thanks for the explanation, Vita. I have to say it is rather depressing to read so much potential going to waste- there definitely seems to be an attitude problem here. I mean voluntarily giving away regions even when you have the numbers and allies to defend them? CooperationMaster indeed.

Nevertheless I think there could still be potential for conflict: as I see it there are sufficient differences between SA and ESA that it should be possible to stir up some religious tension, particularly in realms that have something to gain from such a war. Maybe after the war between Swordfell and Westfold finishes I'll have my character become a priest and see what he can do. The trick will be to have a concept of "holy war" that doesn't necessitate a an SA Federation pile-up; perhaps more an idea of an individual realm undertaking a personal quest to purge an area of heathens rather than a crusade-style "defense of the faith" idea. But anyway we shall have to see, my character is too involved with Swordfell at the moment for this to be anything more than daydreaming.

pretty much everyone is fighting wars or monster swarms or recovering from empire collapses. i think only fissoa and hd are not in one of those situations. so actually every realm is pretty busy in one way or another.

what, in your opinion, should the situation look like?

Well, I guess I'm just surprised to see to see what was once Morek divided peacefully between realms of the two religions. I would have thought Morek and Astrum at least would want to claim Caiyun, or that the two ES realms would want to finally purge the remains of the old theocracies. Instead all I've encountered is an "Interfaith Council" and the two religions apparently giving each other "variant" status.

But then again I'm basing this on SA attitudes from ages back, hence why I was wondering whether there was any specific history behind the fact the two religions have come to peacefully coexist.

Dwilight / SA vs ES

So its been a long time since I played a character with any interest in NW Dwilight and a lot has changed. Since the wiki is practically dead now, I was wondering if someone could explain to me how on earth SA and ES ended up in such a loving relationship? I mean NW Dwilight is just about as peace-locked and boring as its ever been, I would have thought people would be jumping at the possibility of conflict.

Where's a Kabrinski when you need one...

Dwilight / Re: Luria Nova vs The Rest

Everyone else? Pretty much only D'Hara since i've been playing. To be fair, before the event started a great deal of effort was made to piss away claims to the isles and declare a peace with D'Hara and Luria - then the event started and that peace turned into demands from the newly formed league and Barca, an ally of Luria's prior to the last war with D'Hara (and still considered to be an ally by many outside of that war) suddenly showed up in Luria's regions and declared war. During peace negotiations - yet Luria is the only one pointed at being guilty of using Peace Talks as a tactic to hide attacks? Funny

Morek's 'incident' of backstab was one event done in an effort to assist an ally, namely Asylon, during a war. One attack and wardec that lasted roughly a week and was brushed away faster than it started. Hardly the horrific accounts that they claim them to be. I was there, it took us longer to get there an leave than the fight and declaration lasted.

Funny how you refer to the 'leadership filter' when D'hara and the rest of the League are grossly guilty of employing that filter since the beginning of this war. Not to beat the dead horse of shared letters from within, but when confronted with the blatant lies - mysterious silence was the answer.

As someone whose main Dwilight character left D'Hara before the currant post-monster war I have to say the current conflict is not surprising in the slightest; indeed what I find surprising is that apparently the Lurians did not expect it.

D'Hara has long hated Luria due to the constant Lurian claim on the islands, and anyone with any awareness of the Veinsoormoot should not be surprised that Barca chose to support their longest standing Federated allies over Luria. Perhaps there were "peace efforts" being made by Luria shortly before the current conflict (my character had left D'Hara by then), but at least judging by the level of anti-Lurian sentiment while I was there, the Lurians could only have been deluding themselves if they truly believed that no one was going to remember their previous invasion attempts.
The Barcan migration simply allowed D'Hara to extract the revenge they had long desired by utilising their oldest allies against their oldest enemies- perhaps from the Lurian perspective that might seem vindictive, but I can't understand how it can be labelled surprising or hypocritical considering the history.

I can't speak for Fissoa but they have had a history of attempting to resist Lurian domination so its not surprising they jumped on the bandwagon. And as for Morek: you might of have perceived the attack on Morek as merely "helping your allies" but Morek at the time saw it as nothing short of betrayal (at least that was certainly the impression that I got in SA at the time), and as with D'Hara you can't expect characters to just forget old grudges because you don't think its a big deal.

This whole conversation is a tad ridiculous. The notion that Jonsu and only Jonsu talks about SA theologically is just silly; Constantine for example had a number of private sermons and religious discussions concerning balance and prophecy during the power-struggle (though since then I've had little time to play which is why I'm resigning him) and in fact I distinctly remember a public discussion involving Jonsu, Constantine and others regarding the exact nature of balance and embracing one Star over the others.

Furthermore the notion that SA needs more sermons to flourish has been counter to my experience playing there for a number of years. Apart from the discussions on the authority of the Prophet and balance during Allison's heyday theology rarely sparked significant controversy, and when it did it was often just a few players who would dominate. And even then such discussions were rarely based on huge block-text sermons but rather more dynamic discussion.
Of course I'm not saying that we shouldn't have as much theology/religious rp as possible, I'm just saying that attributing SA's decline to "not enough sermons" seems to run counter to my experience of the times when SA was flourishing.

Also can someone please tell me exactly when SA became this "kick-everyone out" machine that Stabbity and dustole are complaining about here? Admittedly I did take a break but both before my pause and since Helm took over casting someone out of SA has been the usual nigh-impossible lengthy process. Did something happen while I was away that changed this? And since SA's decline has really been brewing since long before I paused can it really be said to be the main cause of the problems?

Dwilight / Re: Any bets on realms capsizing?
« on: March 03, 2014, 01:26:20 AM »
This is very true, the Old Thulsomans(not the Saxons) left Old Thulsoma and joined Asylon, and as the leadership was weak the new refugees and several Asylonians that came from Caerwyn rose up in arms and overthrew the Emperor, making Glaumring our King and that way we gave birth to the savage Asylon you know today.

It kinda breaks my heart to see us loose something we struggled hard with to build and our long fight for survival, especially now when we had our triumph over our arch-enemy Astrum and did something we never thought would happen, turning little Asylon into a giant...

BUT, the game goes on and we are now undecided on what to do. There have been some talk about leading chars to death and the fitting end for some old Hero characters, but the majority of my realm are getting ready to embrace the change and spread the savage culture of Asylon east. Kinda ironic as we always expected a invasion from the North east, not the other way around =)

Indeed, I think Aslyon is one of the best prepared of the western realms to make their mark on the east. You have experience of mass-migration, a large noble count (which may even be boosted if the Niselurians join you), a closely-knit and distinct culture as well as a very good rp reason for your characters to remain united and target the North-east. If Asylon plays its cards right then I think the SA heartlands of Morek and Corsanctum are in for a nasty shock. Who knows, maybe we'll even see the Founding SA Temple at Caiyun fall to the Asylonian horde...

It's just as likely that an eastern realm will fall as a result of the upheaval caused by a massive migration. At least, I sure hope that happens.

I would be surprised if they didn't- its not like this kind of thing hasn't happened before on Dwilight. If I recall correctly Asylon was supposed to be a docile Caerwynian colony before Glaumring and his lot invaded and made it the Asylon we know today.

In any case I hope people realise that this is literally the best chance they have of finally breaking the SA and Lurian hegemonies that have long dominated the eastern continent. This kind of mass-migration is exactly what is needed to shake things up.

I actually doubt that a great splintering is what is in store for SA; rather I see it becoming even more of a silent flavour religion. Recent events such as the defeat of Astrum, Jonsu's rise to power, and the loss of many of our most active players, seems to me to indicate that the days of a strong and assertive Elders Council are long gone, at least until the memories of the recent disasters have passed. No one I think wants another disastrous war, or another maniacal Regent. Indeed, if the recent weeks of having no Elders have proven anything its that an active Elders Council is by no means required for the vast majority of SA in the North-east to continue as normal.

I agree that we're likely to see (or indeed already have seen) splits from the peripheries of SA, as ambitious nobles realise that with the threat of any retribution gone its far better to be  a prophet of a small local faith than a lowly follower of a large one based half a continent away. But the heartland of SA, the theocracies, will likely remain as they are considering that at least nominal adherence to SA is a large part of the political system.

Call me a pessimist but I think the days of a religion of Dwilight commanding multiple realms to act according to its will are a thing of the past. SA will likely just become the bland and inactive flavour religion of the North-east (and possibly D'Hara).

I saw this too. I think it was hard for people not invested to see how much of an empty puppet it was. No real power struggles, no cohesive coordination, just a shuffling of seats and a forum to bitch at.

Now I hear there are two schism churchs on either end of Dwilight and the main hall is still picking sides. SA had to be somewhat more interesting, or else you wouldn't be posting.

The main hall has already picked sides- apart from Gustav's character and Jonsu's initial follower everyone who has taken sides has done so in favour of Helm and for the past few days most discussion as ceased as everyone waiting for Jonsu to "finish her rp" and step down like she said she would. So hopefully within the next week the whole situation in the main church should return to normal and , as per the will of the majority of active SA players, things will return to the old system with some minor adjustments. Clearly for many players the old system seem far more appealing and interesting than anything that has happened since, so I think the generalisations that it was somehow objectively "stagnant" and "boring" doesn't fit into the player reaction, which is overwhelmingly in support of it and in opposition to your supposed "fun-making" which most people want over as quickly and painlessly as possible.

As for the "schisms", I'll grant that the Lurian one has the potential for conflict- though I think if it does end in conflict then the temples in Luria will merely be destroyed, while the north sends some angry letters but doesn't do much else. But I guess that counts as "interesting". The supposed "schism" in Niselur is really nothing of the sort- we've heard next to nothing about it within SA; its basically just like a random new religion with no contact with us has sprung up and to be honest no one seems to care.

So how long does this "internal conflict" go on for? I remember someone (Stabbity maybe?) mentioned it was going to be a month before a "winner" is declared but is that the confirmed time frame, or is this a kind of "whenever I get bored" kinda thing?

I have to say the whole thing is pretty tiresome- you essentially have half the Church moaning at Jonsu to get out, while she and her two supporters write a couple of letters every now and then completely ignoring the fact that they have no hope of regaining the allegiance of any significant portion of the Church.

Dwilight is just entering monster invasion mode, and instead of coordinating anti-monster attacks and/or coming up with apocalyptic religious rp, SA is stuck in this ridiculous limbo that only about 3 players seem in favor of, and a significant portion of players/characters have all openly stated their opposition to.

I love the new "fun" church... its so fun we have to create an artificial OOC mini-game that circumnavigates/ignores game mechanics in order to make it "interesting"...  ::)

Honestly I hope the interested parties man up and the church schisms, with the breakaway groups fighting each other until one or none gain supremacy. Sure it would suck to see the hard work of so many players (including myself) go to waste, but honestly what is the point of keeping SA institutionally whole when it ceases to be a church and becomes a framework for some strange OOC minigame run by a couple of players?

It's like trying to decide who rules a realm with "Duchy warfare" by exploiting mechanics like murderous settings and whatnot- not fun, gamey and totally immersion breaking. Best to acknowledge that the realm has been broken beyond repair and should just split, and the same goes for the Church. Simply put religions were not meant for the type of factional civil wars and takeovers that we're experiencing now- Jonsu was only able to do what she did because everyone (erroneously) assumed players would respect long established rp over game mechanics; now that people are aware of the risk it would be beyond stupid for Jonsu or anyone else to allow for another takeover, and without the possibility of another takeover an inter-church "civil war" is simply OOC nonsense.

Not a court of law? Then why am I wearing a robe and powdered wig?  :P

Nobody said anything about lawyers. There are two sides to every story and listening to both sides being argued won't hurt anyone or cause the sky to come crashing down over BM. There could just be one person making these decisions behind the scenes, but presumably the purpose of the Magistrate forum is to ensure that both sides are heard.

But both sides were quite clearly heard; in fact Kai was unmuted specifically for that purpose, that he should be allowed to present his case. And that's exactly what he did- if you look at the thread in question Kai has several posts defending his point of view.

Sure, many Magistrates then disagreed with said posts but that doesn't mean he wasn't heard; in fact that is rather explicit proof that his argument was listened to and then rejected for being spurious. And no that's not unfair, that's exactly what the Magistrates are supposed to do; listen to both sides and then judge one of them to be spurious and the other to be valid.

So again I'm not fully understanding what your point is- what exactly did the Magistrates not do that you expected them to do?

Actually Penchant, I didn't truly believe the Moderators were out to get Kai until I read the thread, and now every posting I read from "the ruling class" strengthens that believe.

So in order to "fairly" find Kai guilty it has to be non-mods who find him so? Statements like "ruling class" or the "mods are out to get him" seem to distract from the real issue which is that Kai sent OOC messages that were very clearly unacceptable. Had I been in the realm at the time I certainly would have reported them- they are very clearly insulting and in my opinion quite offensive.

As as non-member of the supposed "ruling class" (lower class?) I have to say I'm really not seeing what your getting at here. Kai very clearly seems guilty and I would personally be surprised and suspect found play if most of the magistrates working on the case didn't immediately see what is staring at them right in the face. This isn't a court of law where we need lawyers for both sides; if someone is clearly in the wrong there is no requirement for a token magistrate to argue the impossible just because it "seems fair".
