Because some people like to vent. Or to talk.

And, really, it's probably better to do that on the forums, instead of IG.

This. Both. Because we're playing a game among friends.

My character Altagracia just became Countess of Poitiers.  One of the people I play with has complained that this was for OOC reasons, because my character has not interacted much, publicly.

I feel bad about the accusation.  Mainly, because being elected is not something I chose.  And frankly, there was no ooc discussion or planning to be appointed.  If I was going for ooc reasons, and pure strategy, I wouldn't have Altagracia run in the elections, as she gets a lot more gold as a dame of Kazakh.  But "Countess of Poitiers" is a title Altagracia would want.

The thing is, she IS a Driscol.  And the Driscol estate is in Poitiers.  And that is designed into the game mechanics, and thus whatever we do IC, we cannot deny that fact.  Also, whatever my character says, her family's history is automatically her background story.

So I'd really like it if, instead of resenting and accusing me of not roleplaying, you'd respond IC.  It's totally ok for your character to be upset that she was not elected, and to hate Altagracia for it.

Thanks.

I got this message after clickin on the "vulgarity" link, on a message my adventurer got from a noble.  My guess now is that, as an adventurer, he shouldn't have the option to report vulgarity.  But the link was there.  So perhaps the message should be different?

It is weird to play the game again after such a long break. I was there in moments that are now considered old history in the game, but because this is not relevant in real life, I kind of forgot them.  Then I read the forums and the wiki, and the moments are there again.  It's weird.

At the moment, Liara is being pretty quiet in Riombara, Baranion is ruler of the Principality of Zonasa on the FEI, and Duris is happily following orders in Taselak on the new South Island.

Given that I cannot join Beluaterra yet, and I don't like the South Islands... muahahaha, Baranion will be the next Anaris to bear with the annoyance that is a young Driscol.  :P

So, what realm has Anarises in them?  The Driscols will stop their evil ways and challenge their twisted rhetoric and save the BM world.
(I miss Riombara)

So, the idea is to sell a prisoner to another realm only if executing such noble is already an option in the realm that captured it.  Right?

This is one of those things that sound great in the narrative but suck in terms of gameplay.

BM General Discussion / Re: Cliques - a problem? and how to deal with them?
« on: September 10, 2014, 07:55:07 PM »

Ask questions like:
(scale of 1-5)
- I know why my realm is at war right now
- I feel the ruler/council considers opinions I give when making decisions
- I have had an opportunity to gain a new position (lord, vice marshal, run for council) this month
- I feel the realm has an exclusionary clique

Read these to look for trouble spots. You can't just let a computer script find those - you'll need to look it over and see what stands out, and then do the next step.

I actually think this survey would make a great research project.  It doesn't have to be forced, and developers and players don't need to make any decision about it.  But I think it would be great as a descriptor of our gaming community.  We could ask how long someone has been playing the game, and then ask those 4 questions, and see if the time one has been playing in the realm correlates to having a greater sense of belonging to the player community.

We can think of more indicators of "belongingness" or "excludedness" (there are probably other words for these that are actually real words, but I'm brainstorming here), and then make a scale to measure it.

Anyone up to it?

I am going to play again after two years of not playing.  Real life got in the way, you know, but I have a bit of free time now.

I just made a new character in Nivemus.

So hello everyone.  Who here remembers me?

Well, I was one of the first people to use and embrace the forums when they started.  I don't post that much anymore because I don't play anymore.  I got busy.

The roleplaying forum was fun.  To me, it is not about playing the game outside of the game, but definitely a kind of metagaming that is needed.  It is us, the players, talking about our characters. Even in a face-to-face game with friends you usually get play-angry (not really angry) at players who do things against your character.  It is part of the fun.

Some of us enjoy arguing with other players about why a war started or whose character is the villain in the story.  The discussions can be heated, but they are interesting.

I have not seen the forum become more hostile than the d-list was.

What makes people mean and hostile and negative is not ForumMaster or the Roleplaying subforums.  Hostility starts when someone accuses someone else of cheating or powergaming or bad roleplaying.

Same.  Simple white page.

In which case, I agree.  Let the "elves" use that. ;D

That is the point.  Let them be healed with alternative methods.  ;)

Monterrey, Mexico.

I loved the concept.  It totally works.  Every elf in Sirion should use homeopathic Battlemaster while the Westmoorians and Perdanese poison themselves with the allopathic version.  ;D
